I like to use extra dark green leaves. Wash them , cut them in strips. Cook in a separate boiler with a little cooking oil until tender. After the white cabbage is done, drain the liquid off green cabbage strips and add to white cabbage. This makes the presentation better and it doesn't affect the taste,just the appearance! Love your dish 😍

I usually use either ground beef, or ground pork in my smothered cabbage and add some garlic along with the seasoned salt, but I imagine the bacon gives your cabbage a wonderful flavor, so I'll have to try your recipe. Who needs foodnet, this is real good cooking from the soul and heart, last night I found green tomatoes at the market, sliced them lightly battered them in cornmeal fried them in olive oil and my teenage grandkids almost bit their fingers off trying to guzzle them down!!

I LOVE cabbage! I fix cabbage, onions and tomatoes (diced) sometimes. Soooo good. Tonight b/c I have a very busy afternoon, I am chopping up my cabbage, onions, and when it's done, adding a can of corned beef hash. I put the top on the frying pan, and allow it to get hot and tender, and it is a really tasty dinner (and very inexpensive too!) I've never put Lipton Onion Soup in my cabbage-I'll have to try that sometime. Your food ALWAYS looks so delicious!
This looks so yummy. I take the cowards way out and do not use Lipton. I do use dehydrated onion when I am in a hurry and thick bacon. When not pressed for time, I do use fresh white onion. Thanks. You are making me hungry!

Thanks...my husband was stationed in Charleston for a few years and that's where l was introduced to southern cuisine. l loved every bit of it especially collard greens grits and cornbread. That was some 50 odd years ago and l still cook southern foods for myself to this day. Texmex is OK but for me you can't beat Southern.

I know this video is a year old, even so, I cook my smothered cabbage almost the same except I add bell peppers minus the onions. I also use smoked jowl is a thick cut smoked bacon if you're from the south. I'm from down south. I know this video is a year old, even so, I cook my smothered cabbage almost the same except I add bell peppers minus the onions. I also use smoked jowl is a thick cut smoked bacon if you're from the south. I'm from down south. (Tennessee) Love your channel Ms Chris, reminds me so much of my mother and my grandmother Ma'dea cooking, which is how I learn to cook soul food. ❤️

Hi Chris I want to try your cabbage recipe but there's only one problem can I use green onions for my dish instead? My husband is allergic to the regular onions but I so want to try making this dish.

I love the big outside leaves of the Cabbage. I collect them when my friends don't want them and dice them into tiny little pieces and cook them with collard greens and ham hocks.
