Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39 (Ref 114300) - An Understated Everyday Luxury Watch - Review

- The Oyster Perpetual is such an understated yet beautiful watch. This OP39 is no exception. With its short production line and symmetrical dial, this discontinued model is arguably one of the best under the radar luxury watches one could get. People recognise the Submariner and the Daytonas from a mile away and Datejusts are simply eye catching with their white gold fluted bezels and jubilee bracelets. There is nothing wrong with that of course, but if you want something that is just as well made but does not attract undue attention, the Oyster Perpetual is perhaps the watch to get. At a glance people might think you're just wearing a random black dial sports watch. A Seiko perhaps. It's not overly flashy or shiny. I would argue that it is even less recognisable than an Explorer 1. But for those who look a little closer, they'll get a glimpse of how close to perfect a simple sports watch can get. That said, it's only when you hold it in your hands that you fully understand how well made the watch truly is.
I was going to wait till I had more experience making these videos before I did one for my Oyster Perpetual but there have been some developments which require me to move up my schedule. Everything will become clearer in a future video (probably). So here is my review of the… crown of my collection. Get it?

Love your watch. I just scratched the clasp on mine this weekend. 😢
Thanks! I feel your pain! The bezel on mine is all kinds of scratched up now...
I have the same watch. The oyster bracelet is holding up pretty well
Thanks for the comment! It's a solid watch I must say.
