    "Christmas Vacation" was the third movie. One of the best inside jokes was Clark talking about how he hardly recognizes the kids anymore. EVERY Vacation movie starring Chase had different actors playing Russ and Audrey in every movie.

    • @dgeneeknapp3168

      I saw an interview with the cast that explained that Anthony Michael Hall couldn't do the second movie, because he was doing a couple of other movies and was unavailable, so they got 2 new kids. The second Audrey was very sick with diabetes and kidney complications, so she couldn't do the third one, so 2 more kids were needed. By the third one , the first two were too old. A lot of issues kept popping up to keep them needing different kids for every movie.

    • @mrtim5363

      There was a trend in the 1940s & 1950s, where a car's fuel filler would be entirely obscured behind or underneath a taillight, which was hinged or on some sort of pivot to swing or flip or turn out of the way to give access to the gas cap.

    • @MuljoStpho
      @MuljoStpho 11 месяцев назад +2

      Those gas cap locations must have been phased out quick after that. I was born in the 80s and saw this movie sometime in the 90s and this movie is the only place I've ever seen the license plate or hood locations for a gas cap. Maybe it's been out there and I was just blind to it but I haven't even noticed it in other movies from the 80s and earlier.
      Going off on a tangent though, I've occasionally wondered all throughout my life why they've never standardized them to always be on one side or the other for all cars. I mean, so that if a gas station is really busy it would be easier for everybody to line up appropriately. With some people having it on the left and some having it on the right, it's asking for conflicts to come up where two cars go head to head trying to go up to the same pump at the same time. (It's been rare that I've ever been to one when it was the long lines waiting kind of busy, but even when it's just a little bit busy where most pumps are occupied when you drive up I've personally had that experience more than a few times and it's led to the approach to the pumps on every gas station visit always having a bit of a stressful edge to it as I scan all the pumps for the most approachable one in the direction I need to drive in at.) If it was the same for everybody, there would only be one correct direction to go up to a pump.

    • @timothyhennon1510
      @timothyhennon1510 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@MuljoStpho To be fair, most of the cars I remember back in the early '80s having license plate gas caps were cars made in the '70s, like the '73 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that she was still driving in '82.
      Those gas tanks were huge, too. Usually able to hold 20 to 25 gallons. They got phased out when cars started getting smaller in the '80s, and when research indicated that having a smaller tank moved somewhat forward would lessen the chance of the car setting on fire or exploding if rear-ended.

    • @Valecan
      @Valecan 11 месяцев назад +3

      I wish I could remember the make and model, but when I was a kid in the 80s I remember my family had a car that had a license plate gas intake. We had that car in the early 80s and I think it was an older car because I remember it rusted its frame out on us, so most likely from the 70s.

    One of the great things about this film was the way it was filmed. Harold Ramis and John Hughes decided the only way to film this properly was to take the entire production team on the road. They spent 2 months traveling through Missouri, to Colorado, and then on to California. And in the days before cell phones and constant communication taking 50-70 people in multiple film crews on a road trip resulted in quite the adventure.

    • @okielady73
      @okielady73 11 месяцев назад +4

      @@jbrisby I read it as a reference to how women in comedy were treated back then. Coca was one of the earliest to break through into the business and paved the way for others after her to have an easier path to success. She did have to endure a lot of poor treatment from the men in the industry who felt she shouldn't be in it at all. Harrison Ford may have been crapped on by women (which I don't know, just using the comparison you did) but they weren't standing in the way of his success.

    Re Chicago trip. What do you guys like to do on vacations? Food, shows, museums, beaches, sports, active things, bars? Riverboat architecture tour is a good time, rent Divvy bikes and ride the lakeshore trail, check out the restaurants in Fulton Market, Art Institute or Field Museum or Museum of Science and Industry are ones you can spend most of the day in, go up the John Hancock building observatory, and depending on the week there are a number of festivals all over the city. Tip: get a City Pass for attractions and a CTA Weekend Pass for getting around.

    Things to do in Chicago:
    Shedd Aquarium: For an additional price you can pet penguins and beluga whales.

    Sears Tower and John Hancock Center observation decks.
    Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) shopping district
    Navy Pier: Big Ferris Wheel
    Buckingham Fountain especially at night
    Millenium Park (Cloud Gate or Bean)
    Wrigley Field

    Yes, they were really riding the coasters. There was little to no CGI then and it was in its infancy. Tron was the closest thing we had (and I think we were better off, frankly!). Go ahead and sing, Ashleigh! I love your singing and your pitch and timbre are both excellent. I went to Salem with the family about 15 years ago around Halloween and we loved it. So much to see and do and great shops and restaurants and parks. The Salem Witch Museum is great and we took a guided ghost tour at night around the city. I learned that the "witches" were hung in Salem not burned like in Europe. Crazy stories about their charges and sentences and how easy it was to get the town wrapped up in the craziness of it all.

      I grew up in the area (in the 70s) and we would go to Salem for field trips. Like the House of the Seven Gables and the witch museum. I can still hear the one guy saying, "More weight!" as they piled rocks on his chest... and then saying, "More... wei..." and trailing off as he died. Yep, no trauma there! Haha! But I still have a plastic little broomstick I got there as a kid.

    Some fun trivia:
    The Moose voice was Harold Ramis
    Beverly D’Angelo got topless about 30 feet from the shower scene and walked across the set in front of everyone. Anthony Michael Hall snuck into the closed set to get a peek. When D’Angelo was asked why, she said she performed nude so many times in the stage play “Hair” that it didn’t bother her. The luggage sliding off the car’s rooftop scene was actually done near the end of filming.
    Imogene Coca had a stroke during filming and had no memory of her lines the day before and had to be retrained.
    Anthony Michael Hall sat next to John Candy in the roller coaster because no one else could fit in the seat.

    I never walked in on my parents as they ..... However, when I was in 3rd grade my parents went out, and the young couple (boyfriend/girlfriend) sitters gave my little sister and me a large handful of M&Ms, and we watched the small black & white TV in our parent's bedroom.
    When we ran out of M&Ms we returned to the living room for more. They were on the couch, him on top, both with their jeans around their ankles. My sister and I had no idea what they were doing. It was the strangest thing we'd ever seen people doing.
    Then I spoke up: "Can we have some more M&Ms?" They jumped up and scrambled getting their jeans pulled up.
    They gave us the whole bag!

    My brother came home after a hitch in the Air Farce. He and his German girlfriend went to town to do some shopping. I’d already moved out for college, so the old farts were already used to an empty house. They were doing what grown adults will do in the bathroom. Guk guk action, when my brother walked in on them. He was so traumatized that he couldn’t move, and mom didn’t hear him come in…and dad winked at him. He was in tears when he called me to tell me that. Hahahahaha
