That voice is the "MADLADS" my mom also was priceless
The Mad Lads were truly UNSUNG. They got lost in the shadows of the Stylistics and the Delfonics. But these guns could run with the big boys if only they were given the chance. One of my favorite old school groups, The Mad Lads.
That's for sure, knightd12. Unsung.
RIP John Gary Williams , lead singer of the Mad Lads ...5/28/19
Just the best I love The Mad Lady ( So Nice coming home to you with cakes and pies ) what a beautiful songs I still play this song today at the young old age of 73 Old School Music😊
Here it is 2024 and i cant believe im hearing The Mad Lads again after 59 years have pasted. This song took me over the moon in 1965 and has taken me over the moon again on July 17, 2024 at age 85.
Where are they now?

Love this song,I'm blessed to be married to a good woman, just like my dad married(my mom)
Badd ass soul singing and some badd ass moves. They had some unique sound, and the lead singer is fierce!
Nothing like it, the SOUL of Blacks!❤️👌🏽
Songs today are missing substance, good subject matter, and great musical production that create a soulful feeling that touches the inside spirit. A shame what these kids are missing today. Thank you for sharing. This was definitely was one of the ''stand around the fire mettle trash can in the North Philly hood'' singing with the corner boys song...Lol.
Guess I'll always love this song despite how many times I've heard it during my lifetime.
To think this real music is priceless will never be what happened to the good old days.😪
The Mad Lads were a great gift to a lost era of authentic heartfelt music that has become quite rare today. 🙏💜💜💜🙏
The best music ever. Pure street corner singing we would hear coming up in the hood on the streets of South Jamaica Queens NY. in the 60's.
philly, jersey, nyc,& maryland awesome vocals and talent. west coast had to really do they thing to get love. but thats what it was about. and when they did gigs together look out!!!!
Remembering house parties in the projects in Harlem. Damn those were good days.
These videotapes are so important! They record unique talent that is once in a lifetime. I'm so grateful that I lived through this era to be a fan of the Mad Lads. Thank you HiLit, whose show I used to listen to as a teenager. The '60s and '70s were the best!
Man these ese loves the madlads shout out to philly such a soulful voice just pure magic.
The Mad Lads are a Philly favorite, back in the 60’s corner buls all over Philly was singing their songs under the lamp pole while drinking Thunderbird. Special times!!!!
Don't forget also drinking Ripple!
I'm still singing them 60 yrs later.
@@mr72rosalind ...and the Wild Irish Rose...
"Buls?"
That T-bird!
Smooth , class and real singing! Nothing like ol school music!
Love the way the lead singer blends the words "dad and had", these boys are badd! Best music of all times.
John Gary Williams
A totally unique sound! I remember them from the mid-1960s. No wasted words. Intense start to finish. Love this group and their songs.
Robbie you explained that very well. These cats were badd ass!
When we still had soul, knew how to cook from scratch, took care of each other and made passionate love and families. Once upon a time......
frmoak2atl I like that! ;-D,
frmoak2atl lmao but youre right
frmoak2all, you pretty much checked all the boxes .... funny but too true !!!
Still exists today, just rare and i and my fiance are the exception 🌹
Nothing like singing on the street corner
Watchching These Extremely Super Gifted Groups Sing Their Hearts out is like Musical Behavorial Study. This is what Kis Grew up Listening to on The Radion and in Their Homes and at Sock Hops and School Dances Regularly.Of course We imitated them, smooth well dressed and dapper.Unfortunately The Biggest kept Secret in the Music Industry is If You have Tremendous Talent and no knowledge of The Business We'll make You Famous and put you on TV for millions to See You and Buy Your Music and come out in groves to see You Dance and Sing. But We Won't Pay You.Many Artists Passed on penniless. Now Today's Young Artist are Alot Wiser.Theyre Educating Themselves and Getting Paid and Educating Their Kids. But Their Songs and Delivery are Alot different Today,Even though Most of Their Hits The Music is the Same. Can Be Done Legally.Unfortunately just like Us the fans want to imitatete them as well, but only the lyrics and the lifestyle. Not the Artist. Not the Education part.Which may explain how it's the Individual own fault for where we are today. No More Secrets. The Young Successful Artists,Producers,Directors,Managers,Musicians etc.Today is Living Proof That Education is The Answer.Love&Peace😎😁luv ya byo eJ
These old clips are priceless.
Yes they are!!!
Fabulous harmony!!!
Yes we adopted them because we added the title "Tennessee" to their name out of respect. They did receive so much air play and their live shows from the "Uptown" were so popular. Too bad I missed them.
I was hanging with you bru at the Uptown, only lived six blocks away at the Fairhill Housing Projects, 11th & Cumberland Sts. in the highrise units.
I saw the Mad Lads at the Uptown about 3 times. These same men on the video. Very good show.
Hell to the Yes!!!! This is a Great/Lost resurrection for me... (SMOOTH)
Fabulously underrated group who were so-o-o skinny when I first saw 'em in New York City at the Brevoort and Apollo Theaters in the 1960's!
I saw them at the Brevoort also on the show with Otis Redding..great time and music.
FIRST TIME SEEING THIS--WOW!! 1966 AND GREAT SOUL MUSIC!!
love the madlads.
This was real talent... God I miss real music..
There are still some young Vatos and Vatas making this kind of music. Look up Durand Jones and the Indications, Thee Seekers, Los Yesterdays, and the Lakesiders just to name a few. Very talented young people for sure!
Ice cold dance moves, great precision
Linda Oliver like water in my glass.
I never heard of this group. OMG, the harmony and beauty of their music is incredible.. Everyone of these guys can sing... lord have mercy the pips they have on them. They had the perfect ingredients to success..... they also have a lot of video clips, much like the Delfonics, and unlike the Intruders who have very little video clips of the group from back in the day.
The Mad Lads are great...
In the 60's, the Mad Lads were one of the unsung groups on radio and TV. Back then, they didn't have the backing of white stations to play them. They were played on all the Black stations across the country mainly/only.
Mad Lads
Thank you very much for liking this song
wonderful doo-wop garnished with 60s soul...
The mad lads were the best group. Saw them in person several times. Bad asss
Lyrics
I want a girl
Just like the girl that married my Dad
Just like the girl that married my Dad
She don't have to be the world
She just gotta be my girl
She don't have to be the world
She just gotta be my sweet little girl
She don't have to be a world of thought
But she's gotta be, gotta be just like my Mom
And I want a love
Just like the love that my momma gave
Just like the love that my momma gave
She don't have to be no queen
Just let her love me
She gotta be just like my Mom
Oh, she's gotta be.
Oh My Goodness! Washington DC back in the Days 60's.......................thank U, thank U, TU!!!!!!

What harmony. I can picture them on a warm summer night back then....just vocals...and their music drifting though the neighborhood.
The mighty mighty mad lads right there with intruders
IN the 60s, the Mad Lads were one of my favorite groups. I went to al the venues where they performed. Mostly at the Uptown. Once at the Nixon Theater at 52nd Street and Market.
CLASSIC R&B
Class act!! Great doo-wop harmony and deep groove soul!
I remember this song...I like it.

Julius E Green MY OG friend RIP al this time you was a legend a many didnt even know you was a Humble man i am blessed too have met you and had you as a friend i never knew you was this big OG
So smooth!
The most powerful soul group of the mid 60tys. Temptations were at its peak then ..But because of the Giant label Motown they didn't get any air play on the Crossover white major radio! But the Mad Lads were bigger than life in the Deep hoods. All about the Record labels my friends!!!
Wish I had a girl like that as well ... But, until it does't happen, here I go MADly again!
"I want a girl
Just like the girl that married my dad
Just like the girl that married my dad
She don't have to be the world
She just gotta be my girl
She don't have to be the whole world
She just gotta be my sweet little girl
She don't have to be a world of thought
But she's gotta be, gotta be just like my mom
And I want the love
Just like the love that my mama gave
Just like the love that my mama gave
She don't have to be no queen
Just let her love me
She gotta be just like my mom"

Just heard this on Elvis radio on Sirius XM. This song is part of his personal record collection apparently. Cool. Kinda makes sense too. He loved his mother and lost her early in his life.
Beautiful
Soul
Music
Sounds for all generation to generation brilliant song in stereo speakers to listen to capitalise to a song between two.
She's gotta be just like... my mom?! Ok...
Great sounds!
I like discovering groups and songs that I never heard of. These forgotten about or under the radar old groups help put me in a state to hear more of the casual music of the time - filler songs if you will, or straight R&B of the day.
wow how smooth is this. this lady love this
if you think about it, unifics and other groups back then we're in competition. I went through you tube and fought at least 10 groups that danced and sang good.
corneil madison yeah i think youre right the mad lads the epsilons the fidelics the ethics the blenders the crusaders
Sang this on street corner in the ‘60’s😎
Yes Sir I remember walking to class in school and you would hear brothers singing Whatever hurt you and come closer to me...✊🏾
