2011 and 2012 I went with Gary Bulla Saltwater Adventures to Magdalena Island on a 7-day kayak fishing trip. We camped on the island, and kayaked across the channel to fish for Corbina, and spotted bass. What an adventure. One night two dolphins swam up to us and laid their heads out of the water on the beach. We were but a few feet away. Never will I forget that amazing interaction between man and sea mammal.

I use to go way down to Cabo and San Jose back with my dad in the late 90s. I was told that the East Cape was better due to overfishing off Cabo. I was also told to start going north to places like Laredo and even further north for even better fishing. Always a dream of mine to explore Baja.

Matt thank you for your videos. You’ve inspired me to go on an offshore fishing trip here in sunny Florida. My first offshore trip and it was amazing. Me and three buddies caught over 90 fish in 3 1/2 hours. So sad I couldn’t keep the red snapper ☹️.

Had no idea there were spotties all the way down south. I catch tons of those here in SoCal. I fish in Marina del Rey a lot and 9 times out of 10 I’ll catch one of those bad boys. Looking forward to the rest of your videos on this trip. Have fun dude!
Most of the so cal bay and surf species we get in San Diego are from southern water. We’re so lucky!

Dang sweet video Matt, what a adventure you've gone on! You're over here going 1,200 miles away while I've yet to make it back out to San Francisco bay to fish. That's only 2 hours from us heh. Interesting how that beast of a fish went for that tiny little lure. You never know....
I like how you said since you've fished so much that you nearly prefer one of them whom doesn't fish much to catch one over you. I've been the same way with one fishing partner of mine. I almost always best him when we go out, so I've been rooting for him. Finally out of our last 3 trips, he had the better trip twice. Man loved the video and those were some STUNNING catches! Tight lines Matt.

hahah yeah they were my old fishing buddies who live in alaska now. We planned the trip together. Speaking of the blue boat...the Panga...thinking of getting one myself for california!

So cal is so different then north cal its kinda crazy which means everytime I go to socal and fish it feels like I'm not fishing in cali.
Dungeness crab in North Cal and spiny lobster in SoCal & southwards into Baja Cal Mexico.

along mangroves using a white curly tail or the jiggy jig the fish love when it slowly drags and bounces a few feet up then sits for a second or 2 making little puffs of sand/mud the whole way. slow and low. finesse it.

Great video man. Could be a good idea to learn the FG knot.. instead of using a swivel. It's possibly the strongest and easily goes through the guides for good casting distance. Happy new year!

I had caught this fish thrice for 6 years hobby of fishing here in Dubai. And man oh man..this fish is the tasteist of them all..the meat is so delicious and if you cook them in soup, the fish oil is really complementing the soup..Golden trevally..I love it the most!

Love it. I want to go to Mag Bay so bad. My uncle has a place in Erendira about an hour south of Ensenada. Very rocky area with a ton of vermilion, rock fish, lings, greenlings, halibut and yellowtail when they're in season. If you ever want to come out or rent the place dm me (serious).
Can u do a catch n cook spotted bass they are pretty good in foil over charcoal coals, but it ain't officiall till u do it bruh happy holidays to you and the fam

Trevally is in my opinion one of the best fish raw , you put soy sauce, ginger, onions chives some lemon and sometimes some wasabi in a bowl then mix. After mixing you then let your trevally meat cubes sit in the sauce for about two nights or just a day and it’s delicious

Corbina are delicious. If i remember my Spanish days that is a White Sea bass variant. They are protected in some parts.
