Fascinating, isn't it? OPL3 is underestimated. To me it's absolutely in the same league as Gameboy and even SID that I also manage... but it's totally different to program this chip.
@@nate5862 I remember that the snare goes on several tracks. One for the fundamental (or the skin) almost like a tomtom, then one for the noisy stringthingies underneath a snare (might have been 4op). . Then a couple more noises with late attack for reverb. The bassdrum was a sinesweep down (2xx) with some short transient stuff going on. hihats are noisy little bastards. Dunno if this text is helping. One has to have patiens and play around. Then I'm sure you'll find fatter sounds than these 🙂
I should really hope it is well out of the league of the LR35902. And I would expect it to also be well ahead of the SID as well. I can't say I would expect either of those to ever get on the level of any FM chip.
Thanks a lot! I personally prefer the sound of my song named 'NEW! [ADLIB TRACKER II] Soundblaster PRO 2 (Real Hardware) ' but I hope I find the time to finish that one as well. Have a great opl3 summer, cheers.
thanks unfortunately I need to buy a new computer soon. Took the harddrive and the soundcard out before throwing the old one though. Computers are cheaper than broken video cards :)
@ri58tki69ylo584573ur Thanks man! A dosbox version could be a little tricky right now, 'cause I'm afraid the adtrack file on my DOS-computer is the only version there is. Backup Schmackup. The 90's computer machine doesn't live under the same roof as myself, but I'll consider a dosbox version when I visit 'her' :)
Microphone recording is a must for there, Direct Line Out produces a raw signal which we were never supposed to hear in the first place, the hiss is filtered by speakers
Cmon, SID is very basic compared to even the OPL2. But I agree, few musicians used the advanced capabilities of OPL3. Most used it in OPL2 compatibility mode. Silly. I think FM synthesis is regaining popularity in recent years through various VSTi modules, emulators etc. Take for example FM8. Old good FM technologies mixed with modern DSP.
Great song. Love all the sounds you made. Someone did mention that you can use opl2 or opl3 mode. How is this done? Also can i get this module? Its very impressive :)
Opl2-mode? It is possible to go into the ini-file and choose so it can be used with a soundblaster pro II (as I have) it's not an opl2-mode since it doesn't change the way adlibtracker works... or did you mean 2 operators and 4 operators? 4 operators takes two channels (and thereby 2 instruments) and is chosen in the dialog behind pressing F, if I remember correctly. The module is on my old computer I only have the harddrive and the soundcard left since the video card stopped working recently. (other modules are downloadable at sinuston(dot)inversi0n(dot)org
Oh, it's pure alright. Possibly speaker damaging levels of purity. Only shows up on my good speakers. Partially turns the low frequency drivers into DC controlled servos. Strange to watch.
Don't interpret this as being whiny or greedy, but might I ask why you don't distribute the file? Are you planning on selling this or something? Is it being used in somebody's game? I fear that this will be lost to time if you don't release it in some fashion or another (paid or free). Videos eventually, tend to disappear.
Thanks for your comment. It's not an active choice but due to a broken computer. It's still on a loose hard drive. I don't like selling stuff (plus it might not even be possible due to AdlibTracker's creative commons agreement) but it is probably gonna stay on RUclips for many years :) It's funny. I have also noticed that the only song I haven't put out the original file to has multiplied its listens in comparison to all the others what makes an interesting discussion on opl3 in the comment field :)
Not sure about OPL3, but the OPL2 chip (or its DAC respectively) can produce way cleaner output then this. What shitty soundcard was this recorded with? It is noisy as hell.

i dont know if you're still around but how did you get that AMAZING drum set? my drums are not as substantial as that thats for sure

It's nice to hear something actually resembling a real song rather than some shitty acid-trance that Adlib music seem to spawn.
This is fantastic for me cause im grabbing my dads old big ass pc from like 1993 with a thousand somthing games loaded on it
Such a banger.
Omg, I didn't know that this synth could produce such interesting sounds. Great module.
i knew
Great track!
Ah, the refreshing character-based UI! I'll always like it more than GUI. :D
even after 12 years, this is so good. any chance to share the song to download? or at least share in a better streaming format with more quality?
Happy enjoyment GUARANTEED!
This is so damn fresh.

yo ! sweet track, do you have the module for this? werd up.

Nice! Its been so long since I've heard a great chiptune, thanks for this. =)
Where can we get the .A2M file of this?
This is a popular question here ;)

These cards are quite noisy, you can here the hiss with headphones at the very beginning.
there are modern clones with mutch better filtering

hot damn!

베이스 음이 확연히 차이가 나네요
Wish I could have the MIDI for this :D
this does not eat midi ;)
Sick!

Roger Ojala + 1 vote for download ;)
Have you recovered your data since the last 3 years ? ^^
There is a way to download the tracker and the sound file ? Thanks
fattest fm drums ever!
+drumphil00 haha thanks :)
+Roger Ojala :) You should see how they make the woofers on my B&W speakers move. I swear there is some stuff under 20Hz going on there.
Might be. Usually when mastering one puts a high pass filter in those regions. This song is not mastered since I wanted to keep it pure :)
Oh, it's pure alright. Possibly speaker damaging levels of purity. Only shows up on my good speakers. Partially turns the low frequency drivers into DC controlled servos. Strange to watch.
FM popped the speakers on my little tracker.. 🤦♂️

nope :)

It needs to ask ... ok, stay as URL ;)
