I started using a line because I realized my alignment was always left of the target. Was hard getting used to because I felt like I was aiming way right, but i stuck with it and my putting has improved a lot.
I see Ricky as a great guy and very likeable. It's easy to watch great players when the are nice people. It's nice to learn from the pros. I love this game. Thanks you guys for having such great content, (players).
First comment ever for me but I loved ricki’s conversation on your eyes adjusting. After lining a putt up I always struggled with it appearing to aim left so I never trusted the line. Mirror work helped to show me that my eyes were not directly over the ball and not in right position. what i also found that helped me and wanted to share was that after lining it up, when I went to stand over the ball I would criss cross my eyes to make sure the line intersects. If you set up your eyes properly when you criss cross your eyes the line on the ball will intersect perfectly, if not adjust your head position so that it does. Thereafter, you can trust the line you set up. Hope this helps.
What a nice chilled dude with a lot to share too. Thanks to Rickie for the solid no-nonsense info! p.s. I use a line but once it has been used to line up, i only think about pace and imagining what I want to happen at the hole.
One thing I've done for the last 8 years which helped me greatly is this. As I'm over the ball and ready to putt I look at the hole and follow the line from the hole back to the ball on the line I think the ball will roll. I will do this twice then putt. It makes it easier to line the putter up with the line because the last thing you see is the intended line coming back to you putters alignment line.
I'm smiling because I have helped people the same way ... so many golfers lip out or miss by a ball. So by trying to let the ball enter the hole on the high side has helped me make more putts and now I'm more confident that I'm doing it right. Cheers Ricki
Best putting advice I got on longer putts that really helped me was to break it into two lines. The first is where the ball breaks and the second is the line it takes to go in. Mimic the line by acting is if you were going to roll the ball in the hole. The point where the lines intersect is the line you take. Speed is crucial in relation to the break. Control the speed on the first line so it breaks perfectly on the second line where the ball needs to break. Speed is critical.
Look at it like bowling. If I rolled the ball straight using different speeds, you would see drastically different results. This is because bowling lanes have breaks farther down the lane than your initial toss. So once you can read those breaks you have to envision two lines In bowling you have arrows going left to right. Notice you will see bowlers use these arrows to align the ball to roll straight than abruptly break into the head pin and the third pin for a strike. The same stands true for golf. Envision the hole. Where exactly will the putt lose its peak speed and catch the break in the green if you rolled the golf ball by hand. That point is your putt. The first line. The second line contains the cup. That isnt as important. Neither is the pocket to a bowler. What is important is the break line where the ball reacts to the break. So when you imagine rolling the ball into the hole, envision the path and speed. If it breaks, that's your first line. Nothing matters after that. That is your putt. Focus on that line and not the hole. The break will do the rest. But just like bowling, if you are wrong on the first line you will be wrong on the break. Focus on the first break line and speed. Let the green do the rest.
I use a line but have spells where it always looks like my line is left when I get over my putt but from behind the line is lined up correctly. Never thought to check my eyes on my mirror in my warm up will be adding this to my preround routine thanks for great content guys!
I know it’s been a while since I first saw and commented on this, but wanted to let you know that my putting has definitely improved with Rickie’s tips. The main one for me being see what’s happening around the hole, start from there and work back towards the ball.
Rickie is a guy you could play 18 with and have a good time. Great player. Recently started using a line, about 4 months in. Love Rickie comments on trusting your line or your feel the day of. When you don’t trust line it goes in and then you don’t trust it next hole and you should of 🤔. Hitting the ball center and true for better dispersion.....great information. Thanks for cool video.
I tried using a line at home just practicing and it worked like gangbusters. Tried it at the practice green before a round and was much better with no line. Seemed like, at least for me, using the line in a self-induced pressure situation, made me focus too much on the line and lose track of the pace.
I use a line and have the problem where it always looks misaligned to the left on a left to right putt, need to learn to trust it. Great video, really interesting.
Hi guys, Great video agine!!! I am useing a line about over 1 year, and it Helps me a Lot!! I don' t have to Think about the right line After Target the ball!!!
way i practice is i putt at different whole everytime to be more like the way you play on the course.i do the Phil drills at one putter length then 2 putter lengths like least 20 to 30 balls each one begin with then i start putt at different whole on practice green.i started doing that an my speed has been spot on
I use a line. I've been using it for 20 years easy. I like to pick a spot at the high point of the break. I would love to see what this putting mirror looks like.
I can honestly say, I don't think I have ever putted a ball that rolled so smoothly. Rickie is using some kind of black magic, has to be!!! Pace governed by solid contact, my focus for the coming year.
6:37 - Absolutely drains it left center from 25 ft. That folks is a big reason why out of 18 cuts made last year, 11 were top 25!! That's 61% of time Ricky finishes top 25 in a tournament. 18 of 20 tournaments Ricky entered last year he made the cut. That's 90% cuts made!! Already this year he has earned $482k.
There are so many people on RUclips why not go to the pros who do it time and time again. Tom in Wisconsin might be swell but we got Ricky here, and the man is a wicked dirt bike rider as well.
I gotta start seeing the ball enter the hole from where the break is! all the great putters say this. I’m a front of the hole guy every time and I leave so many putts short.
Paul Runyun grip! Imagine the high side of the hole being at 12o'clock, and the bottom at 6. Draw a line from 6 through the 12, hit the ball just hard enough, that when it starts to break, it follows that line. Follow the path that water would take if running over the green. Practice, practice, practice!
This video is HUGE mates he spits so much fire in this video! I've always wondered about his plumbob and also how he uses the line and how he made it work and how it took him a couple months to get it down. That is game changing information.
Have you ever noticed that the shots of the vid are not stable. Hope you guys get a tripod. Asside for that love your work looking forward to more content!
I really am curious to start putting a line on the ball to putt. Currently I don’t but should I be trying this indoors to get used to putting with line?
If you think it can help your game it's worth experimenting on the course because the results will be more reliable and if it works great if it doesn't you can say you tried👍
If you miss a lot of short putts try using the line. I think it works best on the short ones. If the line doesn't look correct, when you stand over the ball, your set up could be off. BTW-Who doesn't like Rickey Fowler? Hope he wins a major.
I use a line! One bit of context: When Rickie says it takes him 2-3 months to train his eye, I assume that translates to 6 months for an amateur. We are unlikely to practice everyday like a pro.
I was never able to get the line aligned perfectly in a reasonable amount of time. Instead I turn the ball so the top is blank so there are no distractions when I am over the ball.
When putting, do you use a line like Rickie or are you no line!? Comment below!
No line for putting, just complicates the vision
Need to be a good green reader to use the line otherwise can be frustrating hitting good putts that are read wrong
I refuse to comment, this is an obvious ploy to get people to comment.
Meandmygolf I’m far too amateur to use the line. Tried a few times and it threw me off. Practice I guess. Love your work
I started using a line because I realized my alignment was always left of the target. Was hard getting used to because I felt like I was aiming way right, but i stuck with it and my putting has improved a lot.
A wish for the coming golfing year is that Rickie Fowler wins a major. Waddagreatguy.
I've always imagined a channel the width of the hole from the hole back to the ball, this gives me a wider path to the hole in my mind.
I like that. If it gives you more confidence, and frees up the stroke, that's huge.
Thats creative
This actually helped me on the course I played!
"Do you use your feet Rickie as you are walking around?" Classic :-)
Rickie summed it up nicely in 30 seconds. Start reading the green as you walk up to it.
Mad to think how much better he is than the average player but is still seemingly miles behind the players he is up against
I see Ricky as a great guy and very likeable. It's easy to watch great players when the are nice people. It's nice to learn from the pros. I love this game. Thanks you guys for having such great content, (players).
Glad you enjoyed it Dean. Rickie was great!
Dean Townsend you love this game? Game? Golf is life homie. The rest is just details.
Rickie is my favorite golfer! So glad you guys were able to speak with him!
ditto!
I don’t know what it is but Rickie has always reminded me of Leo DiCaprio
They are indentical
Brothers?
It’s the eyes & eyebrows
Or Zac Effron? I think he kind of does
wow i thought i was the only one lol
I just draw a line from the ball to the hole with a marker all the time! I do it twice before I putt and it works like a charm! Definitely recommend 😉
First comment ever for me but I loved ricki’s conversation on your eyes adjusting. After lining a putt up I always struggled with it appearing to aim left so I never trusted the line. That first putt was never in doubt! Seems like such a nice person desperate for him to win a major. Good vid guys💪👍
What a nice chilled dude with a lot to share too. Thanks to Rickie for the solid no-nonsense info!
p.s. I use a line but once it has been used to line up, i only think about pace and imagining what I want to happen at the hole.
I'm a simple man. I see Rickie in the thumbnail, I watch the video.
Yep, top lad!!
Only way to be!
I’m a simple man....I see someone making a comment about being a simple man and so I comment about being a simple man.

Great vid, could watch Rickie putt for hours...
Awesome one guys! Rickie seems like a great guy. Cheers on the series!
Thanks Guys. Yes Rickie was awesome. Hope you boys are well?
Meandmygolf doing great! Thanks boys! Keep it up.
I'm smiling because I have helped people the same way ... so many golfers lip out or miss by a ball. So by trying to let the ball enter the hole on the high side has helped me make more putts and now I'm more confident that I'm doing it right. Cheers Ricki
i like this guy. He's nervous as a teacher. Humble. He just wanted to putt that damn ball. Love it. Back of the cup.
Great process

hey can you make a short video showing what your saying in your comment? sounds interesting i just want to make sure im understanding correctly.

@@josephkelly2194 but doesnt putt speed effect where and how much the ball will break?
Quality video, Rickie is one of the best and he even gave you a chance by missing a putt ....
I use a line but have spells where it always looks like my line is left when I get over my putt but from behind the line is lined up correctly. Never thought to check my eyes on my mirror in my warm up will be adding this to my preround routine thanks for great content guys!

Can’t wait to get some gold information from sir Rick
Rickie is a guy you could play 18 with and have a good time. Great player. Recently started using a line, about 4 months in. Love Rickie comments on trusting your line or your feel the day of. At 9:07 you two are identical. That's the classic golf stance...love it..
I find a spot one foot behind the hole where I want the ball to come to rest.... then make sure the hole is in the way of getting there.
Can't wait to use this awesome stuff love this content!!! Best golf channel out there
Thanks Randy, Hope this helps your game in some way.
I tried using a line at home just practicing and it worked like gangbusters. Tried it at the practice green before a round and was much better with no line. 6:30: Nice putt, Rick!
Love this kind of content! Great insight into the teaching pro & tour pro thought process. Keep up the great work guys
I use a line and have the problem where it always looks misaligned to the left on a left to right putt, need to learn to trust it. Great video, really interesting.
Trust the line... 60% of the time it works 100% of the time
Hi guys,
Great video agine!!!
I am useing a line about over 1 year, and it Helps me a Lot!!
I don' t have to Think about the right line After Target the ball!!!
Thanks. Great, it's just about finding what works .
Great to hear how the pros do it. Good feedback
I started using the callaway chrome soft with the triple track and its greatly improved my putting
They have the new triple track putter with lines on it to compliment the ball now too.
I started picking up 4’ ers instead of putting. Shaved 3 shots off my rnd!
Well they say there's a sucker born every minute and sounds like Callaway hit their mark with you.
@@porsche911luv9 lol
Awww, Rick we love you
2:10 Do you use your feet to walk around! I sometimes use the flying carpet that’s in the side pocket of my bag.
Haha, he means does he use his feet to feel the slope of the green
Jack Wilkins I thought he meant using them to count yardage
Steve M Nope, it’s to do with slope. There’s a putting technique to work out the percentage of borrow on a putt
Jack Wilkins interesting. I’ve never even heard the term borrow before lol
Rickie just on another level putting! Great content gents!
I like using the Callaway ERC ball with the three lines. This helps so much with my alignment generally, not just putting.
Gotta use what works best for you!
Good stuff. I like the line.
Beautiful putt.
Just started using the line (again). Nothing better when it feels right. But when it feels wrong it sucks! Need to figure this out!
way i practice is i putt at different whole everytime to be more like the way you play on the course.i do the Phil drills at one putter length then 2 putter lengths like least 20 to 30 balls each one begin with then i start putt at different whole on practice green.i started doing that an my speed has been spot on
Excellent video...thanks
I was glued to this. Putting is the only thing i'm decent at and have a weak left hand grip.
He went through some very useful things. Hope this helps.
I use a line. I've been using it for 20 years easy. I like to pick a spot at the high point of the break. I would love to see what this putting mirror looks like.
Yes, not sure which one he has.
He uses the large model from Eyeline. It’s been out forever
Smooth putting stroke. Interesting technique.
Thats a big time video one of my favorite players
Here we go!!
Such a good putter !
I can honestly say, I don't think I have ever putted a ball that rolled so smoothly. Rickie is using some kind of black magic, has to be!!! Pace governed by solid contact, my focus for the coming year.

Yeh he's so solid. Love his putting. You can see he works on it a lot.
2015 PGA championship Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin at -20 par.
Great video this cheers guys!
Weak left hand grip. Great comment. Terrific video. How did you arrange that?
Line! Gotta get use to it! So good once you can trust it!

I use the name of the type of ball, like I hit callaway superhot 55 so I line up the superhot 55 as my line
Love your work boys and Keep up the great content.
Thanks Gamal. Hope you got something from the video.
Yes I use line
Have you ever noticed that the shots of the vid are not stable. Hope you guys get a tripod. Asside for that love your work looking forward to more content!
Mr nice guy! Hope he wins some majors
Great video! Definitely took some tips away from this one.
Great. Glad to hear it.
Funny what Rickie did to train his eyes for the line on the ball is exactly what I did and still do.
Lies
Rickie Fowler!
This is great
Glad you enjoyed it Chris.
The trick to great green reading is a Greenbook and a tour caddie.
Misread the first putt and compensated trough the stroke.
Funny guy
Very cool video but that’s because Ricky oozes cool and calm!!
He does Guy. Great to chat to.
I really am curious to start putting a line on the ball to putt. Currently I don’t but should I be trying this indoors to get used to putting with line?
If you think it can help your game it's worth experimenting on the course because the results will be more reliable and if it works great if it doesn't you can say you tried👍
Why did one of you guys decide to use truss blade putter? Is there anything beneficial about the putter that made you switch from your old putter?
We were testing it out. Since then I (Andy) have used it and it's great. So good to line up with for me.
Such a nice guy!
Thank you guys! One more great job ! #alloverthegolf #subforgolf
Jeez Piers I think you need a pair of new knees for Christmas 😂
If you miss a lot of short putts try using the line. I think it works best on the short ones. If the line doesn't look correct, when you stand over the ball, your set up could be off. BTW-Who doesn't like Rickey Fowler? Hope he wins a major.
Yes! Rickie!
Going for 54 hole handicap over next couple weeks..⛳🏴 #1% #singledigits 🙏
Enjoyable
A Master putter
Awesome video
Three thoughts... first, lover Rickie, fellow OSU alum, 2nd never seen these guys, are they twins? 3rd did you see Fabio walk by at 4:40?
Piers kneeling down sounded like some tree branches snapping! You need to get that checked out haha
😂😂😂
I use a line! One bit of context: When Rickie says it takes him 2-3 months to train his eye, I assume that translates to 6 months for an amateur. We are unlikely to practice everyday like a pro.
Fowler is the best putter .
Rickie Bat!
RIICKIIEEEEEEEE
Rickie missed a six inch putt today the PGA Championship.
Happens
You mean the pros don't make them all?!?! WTF is happening??
And NBA players miss dunks sometimes
What putting mirror do you recommend?
Michael Carolan PuttOut
There are so many out there. We have been testing out the "Puttout" one. It comes with accessories too.
I was never able to get the line aligned perfectly in a reasonable amount of time. Instead I turn the ball so the top is blank so there are no distractions when I am over the ball.
And in all things practice practice practice
Ricky has that classic cali skater accent lol
No line. Feel the green with your feet and pay attn to uphill/downhill feel. Also, step off distance and know how far a 5,10,20 putt goes.
Great stuff guys.
How many hours do you thing he spends practicing?
Did Andy purposely pull his put to save Rickie’s face?! 😅 great host
