These can be picked up very cheaply now, it's still a nice lens and gives you a long reach for not much money if you are just starting oout or on a tight budget. It gives a bit more reach than the Zuiko 40-150 lenses too.

Is the motor on the power zoom noisy? Or is it a brushless, quiet motor?

Hi Andrew, any idea on what AF mode(s) you were using on the G9 please? I am considering buying one for videoing outdoor team sports.

I would have been using one of the continuous AF tracking modes for the videos of the Paragliders, since filming this video I have played around a lot more with the AF settings. It's worth downloading the Lumix Guide to setting up the AF which covers things like predictive tracking. You can download it free from here: www.panasonic.com/global/consumer/lumix/technologies/af.html

@@AndrewAppletonPhoto Thanks Andrew. I did buy the lens back then but wasn't able to use it for the two sporting events I planned to record. I have been testing it recently and just downloaded the Lumix AF Guidebook which is very comprehensive for GH5, GH5S and G9 users.
Apparently is is now capable of Dual IS since the last firmware upgrade in 2017 to version 1.3.

How far away would you estimate you were from the subjects at 3:43?

Hi again Andrew, do you know if you can get a remote control unit to operate the zoom please?

Found this on a review of the lens -
"You can set up a Function button to activate the PZ, then use the rear controller arrows/wheel to zoom in and out."
      Really?

Hi Andrew...this looks really good. Maybe you can give me some advice on a zoomlens I plan to buy along with my 12-60 kitlens for the G85. I am more of a photographer than a videomaker so my main goal is making pictures. I hesitate between the Panasonic 45-175 or the 45-200. There are some differences obviously of which for me most important is image quality and handling.. There is a difference in zooming, where the 45-175 stays the same size, whereas the 45-200 trombones what I don’t like much. The 45-200 is weathersealed and I don’t know if the 45-175 is weathersealed as well. Not of too much importance too me anyway. So....can you help me? Thanks in advance. Btw...Great music!

I have not used the 45-200 but for a relatively inexpensive lens the 45-175 does a great job. It's small enough to always carry with you when you travel.

Hi Gerie, I don't think the 45-175 is weather sealed. The big advantage with it is it's size. It is small enough to alway have in your bag. There are many times I've gone out thinking I wouldn't need a 350mm full frame equivalent but then an opportunity arrises and I have it with me. Image quality is not in the same league as the 35-100 f/2.8 which I also own but if you avoid maximum apertures and full zoom the quality is pretty good. I have even used it as a portrait lens and it is tack sharp at f/8 around 50mm (100mm FF) I used to own the 45-150 which was also pretty good but I prefer the 45-175.

Andrew Appleton Hi Andrew, Thank you for your answer. As a matter of fact I already bought the 45-175 two months ago and no regrets whatsoever. Wonderful in every way. It looks good, portable and the reach is ok for my use. Really sharp and it sits on my Panny quite a bit. All the best. Gerie
