    Just wanted to say thank you. It's crazy difficult to find any reviews on "dummy batteries", particularly ones for M class Canon cameras. This was a lifesaver because the "Raeisusp" appears to be the only one you can find in the UK, and this review gives me some assurance it's a good brand to go with.

    So glad you took the time to make this video. Very helpful. I already had the third-party battery adapter, but what I did not know was how to close the battery door. I had the battery in it but did NOT know about the little hole in the door. Although you did not mention it, I "saw" there was a hole I did not know about. SO THANK YOU. Also, you mentioned going "directly" into the camera for audio but you did not say "how" you did that. Was it XLR to 3.5mm? Thanks again.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  3 года назад

      The camera only has a 3.5mm headphone port but it doesn't allow for the camera to access that while live streaming on the Mark 1, you'd have to get the M50 Mark 2 and then you can use the microphone port on the camera while live streaming.

    Hey so I’m trying to get a power adapter to work with this camera but it doesn’t have the round rubber removable peace on the bottom that the mark ii has, so I can’t plug the power adapter in. And it won’t turn on if the battery door is open. Any advice?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  Год назад

      The piece that is the black rubber bit with the ridges (that you use to get some grip and pull the camera door open? That part.) spins around on the M50 Mark 1. You close the battery door fully on the camera, then you pull up gently and spin around that rubber bit to plug in the ac adapter.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  Год назад

      That's a bummer. No, I'd suggest reaching out to Canon's support and see what they suggest. Their customer service is quick and better to send your camera in early if it needs repairs or not. Plus, Canon has since released their own creator bundle cable setup since I originally came out with this video. So, if you're going to buy one, get theirs vs any third party cables.

    YES!!! I actually bought this the week after I got the M50. That daggon battery that comes with the M50 I swear last like 30-45 minutes LOL But that battery bank with power plug is nice. My ONLY complaint is it makes putting your cam on a tripod interesting. I leave mine on the tripod mostly indefinitely for convenience. I just hated having to take the cam off the tripod every 1-3 days just to charge the battery. You'd think Canon would think about these things when they manufacture this stuff LOL

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 года назад

      You would think, but they don't lol Maybe now they will with later models but I won't hold my breath lol
      So, the ONLY workaround I've found as far as the battery door issue is two things. The first one is if you're using an Arca Swiss plate system, you can get one of their smallest plates that will allow you access to the door even on the tripod.
      OR if you're using any other kind of plate system, I've seen people mark off how much space they need to fully clear the door but maintain the integrity of the overall plate and saw off the bit blocking the door lol. I decided to not get the arca swiss plates because I prefer to snap in my quick release plates but those are the only two options I've found.

    thank you very much i have a canon m50 power bank how many amps should be does it matter?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  2 года назад

      It does actually, but the instructions for that are on the pamphlet they provide with the AC adapter.
      Since all battery banks are different what I've found to work best across all the different kinds I have is use the port that has the higher amp output of 2.4A or so. Anything less than that and it tends not to be enough to power the camera. I've found this to be true on my Sony cameras as well when running them off a battery bank for long recordings.

  • @SlapDashVideos
    @SlapDashVideos Год назад

    Couldn't have asked for a better video on power adapters as currently looking for my M50 but it's such a minefield out there! Was very close to buying either a Gonine or Glorich branded one on with neither having a USB powerbank option, so I'll go for the Raeisusp now. 😉 You literally covered every area of this that I've been looking into, such as the potential humming noise issues on the audio that I was worrying about. Brilliant, thank you! 👌 Please can you post the link to your video you mention on how to link up a USB mic to my M50 as I currently use an external Rode mic and looking to upgrade?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 года назад

      Oh yeah for sure! I had one for my G85 and have 2 for my a6400 as well. I actually caught a steal on the sony branded adapter on amazon they were marked used since they were out of the original boxes but they were never used and still in the plastic for half the price lol
      I really wonder if Sony will still drop an A74 amidst all this that's going on since they're consolidating the camera devision into a new company structure and what all feature that will have. I'm just glad the a6400 has it natively built in to run off a power bank. That should be standard in every camera!
      And side note, why do you have 3 different camera brands? lol Inquiring minds want to know lol

  • @SpitfirePT
    @SpitfirePT 4 года назад

    hi, you dont have to worry about the mha that will only make it longer or less depending on how many mha you have. The most important is the output of 5V 3A, it does not work with less then 3A. I have saveral powerbanks with 2A and 2.5A and it does not power the M50. regards

I shoot time lapse and 900 frames (know any way around the frame count limit?) will bring a battery to its knees. I change batteries and shoot again. I'll pay to have a wall wart do that job. I've heard "10 minute videos are a thing, but I I always prefer concise explanation and you did M50 Battery 101 in under 7 minuutes. Do you have a Patreon account?

      Hmm...as far as the frame counters, it's not anything I've ever experienced because I don't do extensive time-lapses'. When I used the M50, I never did longer than maybe 15 minutes or so. I don't have a Patreon account, I use Buy Me a Coffee though BuyMeaCoffee.com/Diana

    Not sure if you’ll see this, but I see a lot of people saying the dummy batteries shocked their cameras. I’d be fine just using the power cord with my real canon battery, right? I don’t plan to even put the dummy battery in. I’m considering the one sold by Raeisusp

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 года назад +1

      I had that happen with a trashy one by one brand but that’s why I can only recommend these two that I’ve used for over a year with heavy use and no issues. Not all these companies care about selling stuff that won’t fry your camera but I’ve had 0 issues with these though.

      The cord. The adapter part from this brand called Glorich made a whining type noise and it was gone. The dummy adapter was never a problem.

    Great advice, thanks! But why are there so many reviews about the dummy battery frying people's camera? I still bought it, but want to know if it's a user error, or if there is something wrong with this battery? I got the exact one you recommended. How has it been working for you all?

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  4 года назад +1

      That’s because there’s no real brand to be held accountable for these third party adapters from places like alibaba that can be ordered in bulk and call it any name and sell it on Amazon. I had one by Glorich on Amazon do just that, mess up the internal and it wouldn’t do anything about it. Even Amazon had no recourse. There’s really no quality control or standard practices to ensure the powering methods are safer or correct with most of some of those brands on Amazon.
      I’ve had great results with the two I’ve listed in this video. I’ve had them both for a long time now and no issues. It’s never a guarantee all of their models will work but it’s the only two I have tried for a long time that actually worked.

      I feel ya! It's hard leaving what you know! I took the easiest and shortest video I could to edit fully in final cut first and then every new video try to add one or two more things. That way every time I tried to edit it wasn't 12 tutorials I had to watch just to get through it lol It's by far the easiest software to use in my opinion.

    • @DianaGladney
      @DianaGladney  3 года назад

      This video actually wasn’t filmed using an M50, it’s the Sony a6600. However, what I’d recommend is settings wise is you can record 30 frames per second, set the shutter speed to 1/60 and depending on the lens you use set the aperture/f-stop to the lowest you can and your ISO to what is best in your environment depending on your lights.

      So update, it works fine, but you just have to be careful with touching the wire that connects to the dummy battery. I've had it turn off several times when I've accidentally handled it "too rough" I suppose, but it works well otherwise! If you push in on the bottom of the camera where the wire connects to the dummy battery it's like a "restart button", it'll turn the camera back on if you accidentally hit it. I think it cost about $30, so not too bad for that!
