I noticed that you don’t look behind paintings and mirrors, or look for hidden panels. I assure you that a prepper of that caliber absolutely had hidden compartments throughout that house.
Sadly , all the really cool shit they find , is prolly illegal - If you find something rare and valuable , THE LAST THING you're gonna do is document it on your video
There may be a reason the pool is so far from the house, is there a underground bunker in between? One use of the pool being the way it is could be a gray water supply (toilet flushing,etc.) for a bunker. There’s more then what we’re seeing, no doubt. I’m pretty sure there are guns there, could take days to find the hidden stashes on that property.
What these videos make me aware of, is that all the things we collect throughout our years are meaningless when we are gone, yes family takes some things for sentimental value but not compared to what we leave behind… Even your homes gets reclaimed by Mother Nature..

Those are not lunch boxes. They are small tool boxes. The basement as a whole is NOT consistent with a "Doomsday Prepper". There would be reinforced areas, security doors, cooking, alternate power source, sleeping, sanitation, shower, and entertainment area, racks of food and water stores, etc. Look for a bunker.
Exactly! Nothing about the house or basement screams doomsday prepping. I saw no reserves of water- the most important thing for survival!. There were no MRE packs or other long-term shelf stable food besides one bookcase of random food items. There weren't tons of ammunition, propaganda posters, safety protocols........ The only thing the basements proved is that he enjoyed his workshop space. (Probably the only quiet area in the house when she played her organ. 😊
The one that they opened had a transformer in it. Not sure what it was for. I agree with you about that not looking a "Doomsday Prepper" basement. More like a pack rat. If that was a Bunker there one have been a very defined sleeping area for the whole family, not one bed.
The guy was a holy roller. Ok. But the fact that he was getting prepared early, speaks volumes and truths to what's going on overseas today. This isn't a last minute decision. It looks like the house was ransacked a number of times and Bill appears to have been more of a hardware hoarder than a prepper. I didn't see much for preps and they didn't even have a wood stove. The lower basement would be a good bunker but it wasn't really set up for that, or maybe it was at one time and things changed. It would have been interesting to know the dates on the food cans. Those silver balls look like floats for things like sump pumps. If you don't know what something is, go to the Google app on your phone, tap the camera icon to the right of the search bar and take a photo of the item in question. In most cases, Google will find the same or similar item and tell you what it is.

@@doubletappinhillbilly 2015 is 1 year shy of a decade - houses require a lot of maintenance, for example no heat or AC moisture builds up which destroys paint, books, furniture and everything else. Now add in the fact that he was older means that his belongings start to become out of date like Grampa's house then along comes vandals and explorers, stuff gets stolen, destroyed, messed up and the place looks like this. I've seen this happen several times in person and was shocked how bad things look in only a few years when left unkempt.
I can understand how overwhelming it would be to try to clean this house out, but I wonder why the children didn't at least hire an auction company to do an estate sale at this house. I realize that to most people most of what was in the basement looked like junk, but I saw a lot of dollar signs down there.
You have four kids. The Will states that assets will be distributed equally among the four. It takes 1 of the kids, who feel he can finally get his family to listen to him, putting the property into probate, refuses all settlements. The lawyers are happy. They got an inheritance. After many years, the sale is distributed amongst the lawyers.
I had some friends of mine from the 70 thad had kķa party house that looked similar but not run down lthey had books and LP along the floor .🎉 .if he ⁷
It would only take 1 of the children to disagree on what will happen to the property and what’s inside and then legally nothing can be touched. This can go on for years until nothing is left due to lawyer fees. It’s not as easy as you make it sound. Need to look at the wider picture

I think it is so sad to see fam pics at antique shows n auctions, etc. But the sad fact is there are some pple who don't even care about there families and other pple (like me) who doesn't have family still living. For those of us with no family, after we are gone it is as though our life didn't exist and certainly doesn't matter at all....at least after death.

The silver balls, are a flotation cut off switch when the toilet cistern is refilling. Once the flush happens the ball drops, it is attached to a metal rod, as the cistern fills it floats back up to shut the incoming water off when cistern is full. In the UK you would also have one on your cold water tank in the attic also. Don't panic Mr Mannering!!

The tool boxes look like a inverter. He put in the metal box probably for the chance of an emp attack. That way he would not have to rewire part of house. It could be portable or movable in case you had to bug out. And the metal balls, is an interesting concept. It could be used as a detourant to outsiders if done correctly it could deliver an electric shock to who ever gets to close to it but this is just the ball only. Cool find.
It is not a bomb. It is a fence charger. I have a bunch of those for my cattle and livestock lol. It’s just a transformer resistor and a relay. . It is missing the battery, though that goes inside to the two wires that say positive and negative Lol
BigBankz, you should remember to always carry masks and gloves with you when you go to these homes. As much as you go into these moldy, smelly conditions, you could damage your lungs. And you should wear gloves to keep from touching the nasty stuff. I love your videos. They are so interesting.

2020 was in the middle of COVID and many families were devastated like mine. I had to clear out three homes and all the belongings. It is no small task especially if you don't live near by. Also, with court backed up, they could still be going through probate. Without a trust, this could take years to sort out.
@BigBankz I bought a 2001 Nissan Altima from him back in 2009. Really nice old handyman kind of guy. Sad he’s gone. I noticed the driveway and carport straight away, but the newspaper in the picture frame of the living room confirmed to me it was his place. I never went inside but a friend of mine was given a tour. He said the house was completely powered by solar panels on the roof, which would have explained why it was flat and doors leading to the roof. The windows inside were designed to give them plenty of light during the day. My friend was giving me a ride after dropping off my car to be repainted and got there before me, and that’s why he was given a tour. I remember the dog too. These large properties in the woods next to large power pole grid lines are the kind of things that get turned into small suburban neighborhoods. He had a business where he bought wrecked car titles at auction and fixed them up to sell. If you kept going up the driveway, beyond the pool tucked away there was another garage and large field where he rebuilt wrecked cars. He repainted my Altima again in 2013, and I remember telling him how much I loved the car. Unfortunately I hit a deer in 2017 and totaled it. Loved it so much I bought another Altima, same color, but 2013 from Carmax. If you are around men that fix things themselves, you will find that they always have a collection of parts, bolts, and screws. You’d be crazy not to have an emergency supply of food stored somewhere today. That “lunchbox” is just how older tool boxes used to look, my dad has one. That black stuff in the glass bottles in the pantry was probably homemade wine. Those Manischewitz wine bottles are everywhere in that house. It’s the type of sweet wine used in a Passover Seder dinner or taking communion. I don’t know where their grown kids would be but that house would be a lot to clean up. It's probably an on going long process. A lot of times today on social media you’ll see people comment on how good a person you may have known was after they passed. What you won’t hear sometimes is how much they loved God. I’m sad that he and his wife are gone but I’m happy to know that they loved God and were active in their faith.
Amazing. This needs to be pinned at the top. I know all about the do-it-yourselfers hoarding stuff. My dad was an auto mechanic and he never threw away anything. I'm glad to hear this story. I saw the wired toolboxes and those silver balls and thought the guy was building bombs. Some other folks have said the toolboxes may be inverters or something.
That was one of the best things was seeing their faith. What an amazing family and place. Would you mind telling me the general are where this is located? Maybe in a DM? I'd like to explore it myself or maybe even see about buying it if it's not far from my area.
When I watch abandon places videos, I'm always interested in watching if the explorers check lights, water, fridges, phone lines, freezers and drawers. Its amazing how many places still have working lights, etc.
The city or grid usually will leave connected so the infrastructure demise wont create problems for other properties on same grid, rusting pipes, power lines etc. Hope that helps
I agree, however I assume some of these places if you turn lights on someone could get alerted,. I watched one recently on a rothschild mansion, and pretty sure they flipped a switch and go figure within 10 minutes of the video there were guys on golf carts snooping around.. who knows but seems like something rich people would do,.. i would certainly if i had the funds..
Looks a lot like my grandparents house built in 1975 or so. They called the second living space the “den”. All the wood paneling lol. I miss the ‘70’s so much!! What a fun time it was ❤ so much better than nowadays.
Wood paneling is the best. It inspires creativity & motivation. What one does with that, good or bad, is not the wood panelings fault. Just like God's Word in The Holy Bible. Bad people muck it up for everybody.
It's so sad seeing the remnants of a families entire lives just laid bare like this. Just abandoned and left to rot. It leaves you feeling so melancholic. So sad.
I was blessed to have grown up with a pipe organ in our house. My father had strategically built the house plans to include all pipes & chimes for organ. So cool at Christmas time. My father played well too. Many memories. 😊
Totally agree. It's certainly not uncommon for folks from the older generations to have a little bit of food storage in the basement. They really didn't find much out of the ordinary. Is super cool house though
Agree. The man might've been a doomsday believer but not a prepper. Just a generation that grew up during or right after the Cold War, where you learned to have a store of canned goods and non perishables on hand to last a few months. The rest was most likely hoarding or his business related.
This is what happens when kids are given everything and it's sad how hard this man worked to build them a beautiful home. And they just walk away from all their dad worked hard for. I would love to own that home.

This place once again proves that all our material vanity, all the property that we buy throughout our lives are worth nothing after we leave. After a person, what is left behind is just useless garbage. This house is really cool. The people who lived here simply enjoyed life and built the house of their dreams. The basement shows that the man's hands grew from the right place.
This video makes me want to clean that house. I mean, I know it's falling down but I just can't with the disorganization and everything scattered all over. Most squatters just leave messes. If i were squatting, I'd be the weirdo organizing the photos and cleaning the furniture LOL

Wow, that basement looks like a hoarding situation. It was packed! I always wonder how kids, family could leave such things behind. But with this house I get it. Often time we don’t think about who is responsible for clearing these houses. The heirs, children are responsible. Would you want to be the one clearing this house? I wouldn’t know where to start. That’s too much. People from back in the day have a hard time letting things go. I see it with my dad but he’s a clean freak. @@Calvin-m5nI'm guessing this family is paying the taxes out of a family estate. It has only been a few years since someone lived there if the August 2020 calendar is any indication. So the heirs probably figure they still have time to get back to the house and sort the rest out one of these days.

I watch alot of these abandoned house videos, and other abandoned places, it just boggles the mind that so much is left behind as if frozen in time and whats so sad is so much of what is left is so valuable. The antiques and clothing, furniture, electronics etc just going to waste, as the building decomposes and falls down around it or rotting away. whats more amazing is no one comes back to retrieve family heirlooms or personal belongings like the kids or relatives, or thieves stealing the riches and and ransacking or destroying these places. very confusing but intriguing. I would love to be able to do what you guys do and I am so glad you show us what you find and that your so careful and courteous to leave things alone and not steal anything or destroy it. Thank you for showing us these once wonderful places where life used to be good but for some reason their lives took an unfortunate turn and ended up like this. Its also very strange that alot of places look so messed up and things piled up in unorganized clutter. I could go on but I got my point across, thanks again for an amazing tour through someones past life.
I moved from my old house 3 years ago, still own it but left most everything there. I go by there every once in a while and are like "Dang, what did I collect all this crap for. Now Im going to have to waste my time moving all this junk I'll never use."

It's sad to see such a beautiful home decaying, but I'm sure the family had a lot of great times ...and that's what they are built for❤..On another note...if someone were squatting, they could dress pretty ok out of the closets and have plenty to read😊
I'm not sure if anyone already mentioned it, but the wooden men figure in the glass self are called German smokers or Rauchermann. They burn incense. I have several and don't use them!🙂

As part of the generation before (86), don't blame us, we can't afford one either. We've been living hand to mouth our entire adult lives, with harsh judgement on why we can't afford our own homes or families. We get it.

This was not a working prepping pantry,it was a hoarding situation. I think he always wanted to be able to have everything to take care of things if they broke.
If this house has been empty since 2020, when the wife died, it could potentially still be in probate. Or, it could be that since it sits on a large plot of land with heavy woods, the family thinks it is largely safe. The house isn’t really worth saving, so the value is in the land. If the children were Ivy League graduates, the odds say they aren’t living in rural South Carolina. It took years for me to clean out the last old family home in my family when someone died. Everything had to be sorted through slowly, sold off or disposed of. Rural or isolated places are harder to deal with because auction places can’t make as much money when they have to transport goods, and do heavy disposal. I know people whose parents were very religious/preppers and the kids want nothing from their parents because they had such a disturbing childhood, full of that craziness. They were forced to prep, instead of having a Childhood. Or they just could still be dealing with the court systems. You never know.

What a great find this is!! Numerous living spaces in such a big house with what must have been full of natural light. Always amazes me when you know there were children of these folks that there is still so much left behind - that they never bothered to clean out much. I'd love to have the Singer sewing machine. Love the rooms around the balcony. My kind of house - full of books. That basement area was something else, packed to the brim!! What a mixture of miscellaneous items.

Hardware store owners would love, Love, LOVE to get their hands on that man's inventory! Some of those mechanic's washers are sold individually 25cents apiece! They had 10s of thousands of dollars in fasteners alone! And all of those pigeonhole shelves that lined that basement?! Fuhgeddaboudit!! Hardware store owners, mechanics, hotrodders, customisers, and carpenters all need shelves like those to hold parts.
the house seems unsalvageable due to water damage and overall poor construction, but there's SO much good stuff still in it !!! i would love to spend the day looking at everything.

People talk down sculpted carpet, but it actually is very becoming in a room well put together. And it works with many styles. It will come back some day, or at least be available.

This makes me wonder about the family that lost their loved ones. I know a few people that have been forced to let a property go into degration due to medicare holding leans on property and not allowing you to do anything with it. Very sad to see this.
This couple just passed away a few years ago; surely their kids still survive? I've always wondered about adult children who just have no interest in their parents' homes after they pass.
Obviously, he did not have a will at the time of death. If the house is not paid for the kids would have to make payments and pay the property taxes. If those are not up to date, interest and penalty will be added daily. He could be delinquent in many areas, could be a lot of things, but it boils down to money. People love to flaunt what they have and be total deadbeats to everyone.
Interesting video on this house. The Border Collie in the picture very touching! These people would have keep the place clean and tidy so it might be a mess due to people squatting and using it. I wish we knew why the children did not get the house or maybe too far out to live for them? It would sell to someone that wanted to be left alone for sure.

My uncle dave lived in the U.P. of michigan and he was a prepper. He said it was important that you keep your food hoard rotating. Dont just buy a ton of food and store it. It should be the same food that you eat every day but with a year supply to last at least long enough to be able to grow a proper garden and raise a good amount of chickens or pigs. He had chickens both for eggs and meat. My aunt did a lot of canning so there was always lots of pickled and canned deliciousness to eat. He also had a few hundreds of lbs of what looked like candy balls, 6 balls supplied all the carbohydrates and vitamins that an adult needs for one day. Those would last a hundred years if stored properly. His basement averaged abput 60°F year round. He also had a giant propane generator with enough propane stored to fully power the house for almost a year. And a ton of guns and ammo

It's kinda a shitty feeling, I now have a house that my dad bought in the 70's and I wanted to leave everything to my son like my dad did for me and I keep hearing my son says he doesn't wanna live in USA that the first chance he gets he's moving away.
Lot of assumptions in that comments. It looks like Dad was a kook. If so, it would not be unusual for the kids to either rightfully want nothing to do with him or be cut out of the will. I don't know that. But you don't know that the kid's were ungrateful either.
He was a very religious man, most of those kind of parents don't have great relationships with their children, there's a good chance that a falling out happened at some point and they cut contact for whatever reason, it doesn't shock me at all that this happens, a lot of abuse goes on behind closed doors, religious zealots are a huge red flag 🤷🏼♀️ kids don't stop caring for no reason

43:04 Those boxes are most likely shortwave repeaters. You can make them easily, then add batteries and connect to an aerial. Once youve dropped a few around your home area, you'll have reliable comms.
It was said at the beginning that the kids attended Ivy League schools so they probably have their own money and no need of the parents stuff. I bet they got any money Bill made over the years though. This property would be extremely modest for Ivy Leaguers. But who knows they may be planning to go back and do something with it if it’s as secluded as it looks. Then again they may an island somewhere? 🤷

Very nice home. Doubt the doomsday prepper thing though. There are none of the basic items you would expect to see. It looks like an old fashioned southern home set up by a 40-50's kid with money. Also looking at the office setup and basement I suspect that someone may have been some sort of engineer. The tool boxes look to be transformers of some type, they were a pretty common component for electrical stuff in the 70's. My take is family was rather religious, and probably high IQ southern family'. That being said most old southerners do tend to plan for bad times just as a matter of course so there may just be a hidden bunker. :P

One of my best friends was a prepper and he spent every dime on his collections or prepper stuff. He passed away at the age of 48 from acute pancreatitis. Ironically not from the end of the world.
I always wonder how many "Noahs" died and their ships rotted or were rolled to the sea and sold before one was right there when it was needed. It's good to be prepared for every eventuality, but it seems like a waste of time until one day...

Not you are totally wrong lol. Those are fence chargers I have a bunch of those I have made over the years. They are for livestock. The 2 wires in it are for the battery that say positive and negative. There is a transformer relay and a resistor in it. The fence plugs in behind the hinges. Lol the switch is to turn it on and the light is to let you know whenever the fence is activated and you don’t have a dead battery.

As a carpenter specializing in restorations, and as a hobby I restore cars and trucks, I have a vast amount of parts fasteners and what have you. Very interesting explore - quite! One big mistake this "dooms day" prepper made though is building a home - any home with a flat roof as those never last/hold up worth a darn. Steel roof sloped and that home would not have so much internal damage/decay going on. If they had kids as it appears so - will never understand why they did not do more to clean things out/secure this home & then sell it unless there was no will. That home w/30 acres is worth a few $$$......
Probably no will so it will sit in probate for god knows how long because courts are probably backed up still due to the whole lockdowns. My uncle's was because his children from a previous marriage wanted more than what was written in the will and they tied it up for years and squandered what they were going to get.

Taking care of the stuff left behind is the hardest part for sure. In a case like this, they probably could have hired some people to go in and get it all ready to sell. And sell the house too. There is a lot of value in the house.
yeah, it's a lot. the kids would have to go in and simply focus on the family heirlooms, pictures, and personal stuff. everything else needs to be cleared out by a professional estate sale team and sold off.
You have some big dumpsters brought out and you throw everything away. In a salvageable house, which this isn't. Frankly I'd remove everything I want then burn the house to the ground and never go back.

Definitely a mid to late 1970s build. I saw a similar house on another urbex RUclips channel that used to be owned by a SWINGERS club, a similar layout to the main house with a sunken conversation pit and open fireplace, but identical 2nd floor railings and bedrooms setup. That one's flat roof was also caving in from bad drainage.

There may be a reason the pool is so far from the house, is there a underground bunker in between? One use of the pool being the way it is could be a gray water supply (toilet flushing,etc.) for a bunker. There’s more then what we’re seeing, no doubt. I’m pretty sure there are guns there, could take days to find the hidden stashes on that property.

Exactly! Nothing about the house or basement screams doomsday prepping. I saw no reserves of water- the most important thing for survival!. There were no MRE packs or other long-term shelf stable food besides one bookcase of random food items. There weren't tons of ammunition, propaganda posters, safety protocols........ The only thing the basements proved is that he enjoyed his workshop space. (Probably the only quiet area in the house when she played her organ. 😊

It looks like the house was ransacked a number of times and Bill appears to have been more of a hardware hoarder than a prepper. I didn't see much for preps and they didn't even have a wood stove. The lower basement would be a good bunker but it wasn't really set up for that, or maybe it was at one time and things changed. It would have been interesting to know the dates on the food cans. Those silver balls look like floats for things like sump pumps. If you don't know what something is, go to the Google app on your phone, tap the camera icon to the right of the search bar and take a photo of the item in question. @@doubletappinhillbilly 2015 is 1 year shy of a decade - houses require a lot of maintenance, for example no heat or AC moisture builds up which destroys paint, books, furniture and everything else. Now add in the fact that he was older means that his belongings start to become out of date like Grampa's house then along comes vandals and explorers, stuff gets stolen, destroyed, messed up and the place looks like this.
I've seen this happen several times in person and was shocked how bad things look in only a few years when left unkempt.
I can understand how overwhelming it would be to try to clean this house out, but I wonder why the children didn't at least hire an auction company to do an estate sale at this house. I realize that to most people most of what was in the basement looked like junk, but I saw a lot of dollar signs down there.
You have four kids. The Will states that assets will be distributed equally among the four. It takes 1 of the kids, who feel he can finally get his family to listen to him, putting the property into probate, refuses all settlements. The lawyers are happy. They got an inheritance. After many years, the sale is distributed amongst the lawyers.
I had some friends of mine from the 70 thad had kķa party house that looked similar but not run down lthey had books and LP along the floor .🎉 .if he ⁷
It would only take 1 of the children to disagree on what will happen to the property and what’s inside and then legally nothing can be touched. This can go on for years until nothing is left due to lawyer fees. It’s not as easy as you make it sound. Need to look at the wider picture

I think it is so sad to see fam pics at antique shows n auctions, etc. But the sad fact is there are some pple who don't even care about there families and other pple (like me) who doesn't have family still living. The silver balls, are a flotation cut off switch when the toilet cistern is refilling. Once the flush happens the ball drops, it is attached to a metal rod, as the cistern fills it floats back up to shut the incoming water off when cistern is full. In the UK you would also have one on your cold water tank in the attic also. Don't panic Mr Mannering!!

The tool boxes look like a inverter. He put in the metal box probably for the chance of an emp attack. That way he would not have to rewire part of house. It could be portable or movable in case you had to bug out. And the metal balls, is an interesting concept. It could be used as a detourant to outsiders if done correctly it could deliver an electric shock to who ever gets to close to it but this is just the ball only. Cool find.

2020 was in the middle of COVID and many families were devastated like mine. I had to clear out three homes and all the belongings. It is no small task especially if you don't live near by. Also, with court backed up, they could still be going through probate. Without a trust, this could take years to sort out.

I bought a 2001 Nissan Altima from him back in 2009. Really nice old handyman kind of guy. Sad he’s gone. I noticed the driveway and carport straight away, but the newspaper in the picture frame of the living room confirmed to me it was his place. I never went inside but a friend of mine was given a tour. He said the house was completely powered by solar panels on the roof, which would have explained why it was flat and doors leading to the roof. The windows inside were designed to give them plenty of light during the day. My friend was giving me a ride after dropping off my car to be repainted and got there before me, and that’s why he was given a tour. I remember the dog too. These large properties in the woods next to large power pole grid lines are the kind of things that get turned into small suburban neighborhoods.
He had a business where he bought wrecked car titles at auction and fixed them up to sell. If you kept going up the driveway, beyond the pool tucked away there was another garage and large field where he rebuilt wrecked cars. He repainted my Altima again in 2013, and I remember telling him how much I loved the car. Unfortunately I hit a deer in 2017 and totaled it. Loved it so much I bought another Altima, same color, but 2013 from Carmax.
If you are around men that fix things themselves, you will find that they always have a collection of parts, bolts, and screws. You’d be crazy not to have an emergency supply of food stored somewhere today. That “lunchbox” is just how older tool boxes used to look, my dad has one. That black stuff in the glass bottles in the pantry was probably homemade wine. Those Manischewitz wine bottles are everywhere in that house. It’s the type of sweet wine used in a Passover Seder dinner or taking communion. I don’t know where their grown kids would be but that house would be a lot to clean up. It's probably an on going long process.
A lot of times today on social media you’ll see people comment on how good a person you may have known was after they passed. What you won’t hear sometimes is how much they loved God. I’m sad that he and his wife are gone but I’m happy to know that they loved God and were active in their faith.

When I watch abandon places videos, I'm always interested in watching if the explorers check lights, water, fridges, phone lines, freezers and drawers. Its amazing how many places still have working lights, etc.
The city or grid usually will leave connected so the infrastructure demise wont create problems for other properties on same grid, rusting pipes, power lines etc. Hope that helps

I was blessed to have grown up with a pipe organ in our house. My father had strategically built the house plans to include all pipes & chimes for organ. So cool at Christmas time. My father played well too. Many memories. 😊

This place once again proves that all our material vanity, all the property that we buy throughout our lives are worth nothing after we leave. After a person, what is left behind is just useless garbage. This house is really cool. The people who lived here simply enjoyed life and built the house of their dreams. The basement shows that the man's hands grew from the right place.

I watch alot of these abandoned house videos, and other abandoned places, it just boggles the mind that so much is left behind as if frozen in time and whats so sad is so much of what is left is so valuable. The antiques and clothing, furniture, electronics etc just going to waste, as the building decomposes and falls down around it or rotting away. whats more amazing is no one comes back to retrieve family heirlooms or personal belongings like the kids or relatives, or thieves stealing the riches and and ransacking or destroying these places. very confusing but intriguing. I would love to be able to do what you guys do and I am so glad you show us what you find and that your so careful and courteous to leave things alone and not steal anything or destroy it. Thank you for showing us these once wonderful places where life used to be good but for some reason their lives took an unfortunate turn and ended up like this. Its also very strange that alot of places look so messed up and things piled up in unorganized clutter. It makes me so sad that houses like this are just sitting, rotting away, while people of my generation (gen z) will probably never be able to own a home.
As part of the generation before (86), don't blame us, we can't afford one either. We've been living hand to mouth our entire adult lives, with harsh judgement on why we can't afford our own homes or families. We get it.

This was not a working prepping pantry,it was a hoarding situation. I think he always wanted to be able to have everything to take care of things if they broke.
If this house has been empty since 2020, when the wife died, it could potentially still be in probate. Or, it could be that since it sits on a large plot of land with heavy woods, the family thinks it is largely safe. The house isn’t really worth saving, so the value is in the land. If the children were Ivy League graduates, the odds say they aren’t living in rural South Carolina. It took years for me to clean out the last old family home in my family when someone died. Everything had to be sorted through slowly, sold off or disposed of. Rural or isolated places are harder to deal with because auction places can’t make as much money when they have to transport goods, and do heavy disposal. I know people whose parents were very religious/preppers and the kids want nothing from their parents because they had such a disturbing childhood, full of that craziness. They were forced to prep, instead of having a Childhood. Or they just could still be dealing with the court systems. You never know.

What a great find this is!! Numerous living spaces in such a big house with what must have been full of natural light. Always amazes me when you know there were children of these folks that there is still so much left behind - that they never bothered to clean out much. I'd love to have the Singer sewing machine. Love the rooms around the balcony. My kind of house - full of books. That basement area was something else, packed to the brim!! What a mixture of miscellaneous items.

Hardware store owners would love, Love, LOVE to get their hands on that man's inventory! Some of those mechanic's washers are sold individually 25cents apiece! They had 10s of thousands of dollars in fasteners alone!

because they staged the dining room. there's no other explanation for the clean spots. If someone else had done it, there would be a thinner layer of dust where the glasses used to be.

This makes me wonder about the family that lost their loved ones. I know a few people that have been forced to let a property go into degration due to medicare holding leans on property and not allowing you to do anything with it. Very sad to see this.

Obviously, he did not have a will at the time of death. If the house is not paid for the kids would have to make payments and pay the property taxes. If those are not up to date,
interest and penalty will be added daily. He could be delinquent in many areas, could be a lot of things, but it boils down to money. People love to flaunt what they have and be total

Yes. I agree. I mean, they had the house since 1975. One passed in 2015 & the other 2020(ish). Chances are the house was paid off. If nothing else, I’d at least want to grab the pictures and any family heirlooms. It’s so sad that everything may just rot away 😢🥺

My uncle dave lived in the U.P. of michigan and he was a prepper. He said it was important that you keep your food hoard rotating. Dont just buy a ton of food and store it. It should be the same food that you eat every day but with a year supply to last at least long enough to be able to grow a proper garden and raise a good amount of chickens or pigs. He had chickens both for eggs and meat. My aunt did a lot of canning so there was always lots of pickled and canned deliciousness to eat. He also had a few hundreds of lbs of what looked like candy balls, 6 balls supplied all the carbohydrates and vitamins that an adult needs for one day. Those would last a hundred years if stored properly. His basement averaged abput 60°F year round. He also had a giant propane generator with enough propane stored to fully power the house for almost a year. And a ton of guns and ammo
having that much propane was probably illegal. lol.

Lot of assumptions in that comments. It looks like Dad was a kook. If so, it would not be unusual for the kids to either rightfully want nothing to do with him or be cut out of the will. I don't know that. But you don't know that the kid's were ungrateful either.
He was a very religious man, most of those kind of parents don't have great relationships with their children, there's a good chance that a falling out happened at some point and they cut contact for whatever reason, it doesn't shock me at all that this happens, a lot of abuse goes on behind closed doors, religious zealots are a huge red flag 🤷🏼♀️ kids don't stop caring for no reason

43:04 Those boxes are most likely shortwave repeaters. You can make them easily, then add batteries and connect to an aerial. Once youve dropped a few around your home area, you'll have reliable comms.

It was said at the beginning that the kids attended Ivy League schools so they probably have their own money and no need of the parents stuff. I bet they got any money Bill made over the years though. This property would be extremely modest for Ivy Leaguers. But who knows they may be planning to go back and do something with it if it’s as secluded as it looks. Then again they may an island somewhere? 🤷

Very nice home. Doubt the doomsday prepper thing though. There are none of the basic items you would expect to see. It looks like an old fashioned southern home set up by a 40-50's kid with money. Also looking at the office setup and basement I suspect that someone may have been some sort of engineer. The tool boxes look to be transformers of some type, they were a pretty common component for electrical stuff in the 70's. My take is family was rather religious, and probably high IQ southern family'. That being said most old southerners do tend to plan for bad times just as a matter of course so there may just be a hidden bunker. :P

One of my best friends was a prepper and he spent every dime on his collections or prepper stuff.
He passed away at the age of 48 from acute pancreatitis. Ironically not from the end of the world.
I always wonder how many "Noahs" died and their ships rotted or were rolled to the sea and sold before one was right there when it was needed. It's good to be prepared for every eventuality, but it seems like a waste of time until one day...

Not you are totally wrong lol. Those are fence chargers I have a bunch of those I have made over the years. They are for livestock. The 2 wires in it are for the battery that say positive and negative. There is a transformer relay and a resistor in it. The fence plugs in behind the hinges. Lol the switch is to turn it on and the light is to let you know whenever the fence is activated and you don’t have a dead battery.

As a carpenter specializing in restorations, and as a hobby I restore cars and trucks, I have a vast amount of parts fasteners and what have you. It's easier to grab it out of your own stash and going to the hardware store. Awesome house and a great video. Keep up the good work and be safe out there 👍✌️🇺🇲

One big mistake this "dooms day" prepper made though is building a home - any home with a flat roof as those never last/hold up worth a darn. Steel roof sloped and that home would not have so much internal damage/decay going on.
If they had kids as it appears so - will never understand why they did not do more to clean things out/secure this home & then sell it unless there was no will. That home w/30 acres is worth a few $$$......
Probably no will so it will sit in probate for god knows how long because courts are probably backed up still due to the whole lockdowns. My uncle's was because his children from a previous marriage wanted more than what was written in the will and they tied it up for years and squandered what they were going to get.

I worked in a building that had a flat roof, we had waste baskets all over the room! The only fix they did was tar the roof

Taking care of the stuff left behind is the hardest part for sure. In a case like this, they probably could have hired some people to go in and get it all ready to sell. And sell the house too. There is a lot of value in the house.

yeah, it's a lot. the kids would have to go in and simply focus on the family heirlooms, pictures, and personal stuff. everything else needs to be cleared out by a professional estate sale team and sold off.
You have some big dumpsters brought out and you throw everything away. In a salvageable house, which this isn't. Frankly I'd remove everything I want then burn the house to the ground and never go back.

Definitely a mid to late 1970s build. I saw a similar house on another urbex RUclips channel that used to be owned by a SWINGERS club, a similar layout to the main house with a sunken conversation pit and open fireplace, but identical 2nd floor railings and bedrooms setup. That one's flat roof was also caving in from bad drainage.
