I was stationed there with Barracks Marines from 93-95. We were stationed there at the same time. Crazy nights in Rota in the 90's. Friday and Saturday night's at the country club, "The Barn" could get out of hand. Good Times!!!
Rota was exactly what I needed at that point in life where I was going through such a horrible personal time, the people, the city, it helped cure me of some deep resentment I had. It was great being able to get off of work and just take a 10 minute walk down to the beach to read. My only regret is not having taken advantage of the opportunity and travel a lot more than I already had.
Living overseas is one of the best experiences you can have in life. It brings so much perspective. You get to know the world better. You get to know our country better. I've been lucky to have done two overseas tours with the Navy. There's just nothing better.
Hiya, I'm from Rota Half of the buildings filmed here are actually from Cádiz, not actually in Rota (don't worry, Cádiz it's just 30 minutes away by ferry)
You are very welcome, Naval Station Rota makes the place much nicer for jobs, cultural exchange and it is key at our NATO cooperation, me as a spaniard I feel happy to see like this can be a dream destination for many of you and can be a very nice and rich experience, don't forget to enjoy the spanish food and try to visit the rest of the country, it will be a very enjoyable experience.
Great place to live in. It's close to my hometown and I have lot's of expats friends in there. If you are planning to live in the area, I would highly recommend you to start learning the language to enjoy the culture at its best. I'm a Spanish teacher and I help expats with the language barrier. Let me know if you need any advice, I'm happy to help you out!
Assigned to Navcommsta, Rota Spain from 80-82, I did not want to leave! Beautiful country, beautiful people. besides, Seville, Cadiz, Malaga, Madrid, Jerez, and I'm sure a few others, I was able to visit France as well. As many other US Armed Forces members have already stated, it was the best time of my life!
@@TJ-nq5nt Most were great. It's definitely appreciated if you at least try to speak their language, even though I could not speak it fluently. It was a much simpler time back then, so I'm not sure what things would be like today. But, I really did feel like I had found my second HOME.
In Cádiz Spain born the Major general army of the Potomac and hero of Gettysburg, George Gordon Meade in 1815. It is posible visit your his borne house in Cádiz. Saludos desde España
HGTV airing a 30 min. episode of House Hunters International - "You're Speaking My Language" about a Navy couple searching for a house off base. Nice walk-around of town..
Rota orders are only good when you aren't stationed on a ship and slaving away. You're gone 33% of the time in 3 years, having to cram workups, insurv, and various certs in 4 months inport before you deploy again, and even when you're in port alot of medical services aren't available to you because "You got to stay deployable" so you end up dealing with a torn meniscus, or failing eyesight, nerve damage etc. for over a year before it gets serious enough that warrants atleast one surgery.
@@jadagemineye7148 that's great to hear ❤ congratulations 🙏 I'm taking the asvab in two weeks. I would love to be a mass communication specialist maybe one day I'll get a chance to meet you and see you. Pray for me and wish me good luck 😩 I really need it.
Chill Vibes I meant to say Leave for** but yes good luck!!! You got it I promise it’s not as hard as you may think. I’d say study car parts, learn how to do percentages and proportions in your head. Math is a big part.
Stationed there 1988 - 1996. Spain is a beautiful country, and Rota is a beautiful little city. Best eight years of my life.
That was the 1st time I was stationed there too

You probably should read Rollo Tomassi's The Rational Male
Artuno yeah my mom was in the Army and she keeps telling me to take advantage of the overseas assignments they give you along with the travel.
Your Average Joe 2 I’m stationed in the UK. Traveling is so cheap here.
