    Portugal is indeed a small country, but big in diversity and beauty of landscapes and places to visit; with a multitude and variety of culture and gastronomy typical of each place. So small and with so much to offer and enjoy :)

    • @quintatorneiro3074
      @quintatorneiro3074 2 года назад +2

      @@LHollan It's a fact, the USA has a continental dimension :) but what I wanted to emphasize is that from North to South, from east to west of Portugal, the landscape varies within a few km radius. For example, if you travel along the southern coast of Portugal from Sagres to Faro, you will notice this constant diversity, but equally beautiful. Or to understand even better; as you must have traveled through the diversity of beaches and coastal landscapes between Lagos and Sagres. If I had traveled the same distance between Sagres to the North, I would have noticed that the beaches and landscapes are already quite different, but equally beautiful to those in the south :)

      @@quintatorneiro3074 that’s true, but it’s quite common portuguese people stressing how small Portugal is in every single comment box section such it’s something particular to Portugal, when in fact all Portugal western neighbours are equally small, some a little bigger like the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, but all of then are tiny compared to giants like the US, Brazil, China, Canada, Russia etc. I think Portuguese should look more at European small context, where Portugal is bigger than the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg all together (did you know that?), bigger than Ireland republic and Irish island, bigger than Switzerland, bigger than Austria etc. So in European context Portugal can’t be considered too small

      As far as I know, nothing is needed upon arrival (except your passport of course and PLF, which you can fill out beforehand). You may need to present proof of vaccination prior to boarding your flight depending on your country of origin, and I believe you still need to wear a mask on your inbound flight to Portugal. But once you're there, you only have to wear a mask on public transportation or in hospitals.
      If you're returning to the US, you can get a covid test the day before your flight at almost any pharmacy without an appointment and it's only €35 per person.

    I leave here the explanation of why the "Convento do Carmo" was never rebuilt.
    During the reign of D. Maria I of Portugal, the reconstruction of a wing of the convent began, in neo-Gothic style, but the work was interrupted in 1834 when the religious orders were abolished.
    The pillars and arches of the naves are testimony to this first reconstructive period, a true testimony of experimental neo-Gothic architecture, with a scenographic nature.
    In the mid-19th century, when the romantic taste for ruins and ancient medieval monuments prevailed, it was decided not to continue the reconstruction of the ensemble, leaving the body of the naves of the church in the open and thus creating an idyllic scenario of ruin, that so pleased the 19th century aesthetes and that still enchants visitors today.
    The habitable part of the convent was converted into military installations in 1836. It was here, in the Quartel do Carmo, headquarters of the General Command of the GNR, that the President of the Council of the Estado Novo, Marcelo Caetano, took refuge from the revolting military during the Revolution of the Carnations.
    pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convento_do_Carmo_(Lisbon)
