  • President Trump has requested that the military begin preparations for a military parade in the nation's capital, CBS News has confirmed. The last military parade was in 1991, when President George H.W. Bush marked the U.S. victory in the Gulf War with a military parade in Washington, D.C. Here's how CBS News correspondent Eric Engberg covered the day.

      if that was today: you would have a "counter-protest" (BLM, homosexual, pro-abortion, etc). the strong defense "peace through strength" is what brought our nation through 1945 and to "superpower" status.
      now all these "subgroups" (BLM, etc) goals and objectives is to take this away from "those" that earned it.

      Ryan Liu because we’re not suppose to be authoritarian. Totalitarian dictatorships do these sort of parades all the time, their meant to stroke the ego of their most fanatical “patriots” to pledge loyalty to the state. Nobody’s freedom was at jeopardy in these wars. None.. you can respect the soldier but you have right to criticize his actions especially since taking orders is no excuse anymore. Just like what we did with the nazis.

      “It eats up the surplus of consumable goods, and it helps to preserve the special mental atmosphere that the hierarchical society needs. War, it will be seen, is now a purely internal affair. In the past, the ruling groups of all countries, although they might recognize their common interest and therefore limit the destructiveness of war, did fight against one another, and the victor always plundered the vanquished. In our own day they are not fighting against one another at all. The war is waged by each ruling group against its own subjects, and the object of the war is not to make or prevent conquests of territory, but to keep the structure of society intact. The very word "war," therefore, has become misleading. It would probably be accurate to say that by becoming continuous war has ceased to exist. WAR IS PEACE” - George Orwell

      @@JoeSmith-sx5gw I didn’t refer to the Russians or French or British or any other country. The simple fact is that America does not regularly conduct military parades. There is no yearly parade for any event. Usually there is only one which follows a military campaign (a successful one at that) and even then it’s rare.
      Trump doing one without any significance behind it, makes it a case of the military being used as a political tool.

We don't like bloodshed, but we know that we are the option used when bloodshed is imminent against people somewhere. We are of course sent to some places we shouldn't go, but in the end, we hope to create more good than harm. Parades like this that let us be ourselves around civilians are something that helps us continue to do what we do. Last military parade was 30 years ago. It's time to roll down the M1A2 Abram tanks down Washington. France had a parade for Bastille Day why can't America have one for July 4th? Not only is this parade a great way to recruit more people to join the military, but it shows the true might of the greatest superpower to every exist. It will only cost about $15 million compared to the $4.5+ trillion budget. This is nothing but a drop in the ocean. MAGA!

      France has been doing Bastille Day parades since 1880. The US has a long history of civilian parades. I seriously doubt a military parade in Washington DC is going to attract anyone to the military.
      $15 million could buy 5 state of the art MRI machines for VA hospitals. These would be usable for 10 years each, helping thousands of veterans and decreasing wait times. They could save thousands of lives. Compare this to a one day parade in DC for people to stroke their egos to.

    • @omarabuaita3858
      @omarabuaita3858 6 лет назад +8

      +Proctor Sample $15 million compared to a $4.5 trillion budget its not like this is coming out of VA Affairs budget for our service members. In the FY 2019 Budget, President Trump proposed a total of $198.6 billion for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This request, an increase of $12.1 billion over 2018, will ensure the Nation's Veterans receive high-quality health care and timely access to benefits and services.

    • @omarabuaita3858
      @omarabuaita3858 6 лет назад +7

      +Proctor Sample You would need about thirteen thousand two hundred military parades to equal the VA Affairs budget. Or three hundred thousand military parades to equal the total US budget for 2018. I think we can make just 1 military parade of Independence Day or Veterans Day.

It would also show the very distinct differences between how we do our parades and how Russia does theirs. ours are more relaxed, with more of an emphasis on honoring the troops, while theirs are meant to show the superiority of the state and its military. Its quite telling, and a very distinct when compared side by side.

Sadly the National Guard no longer has its two Abrams tanks I believe they where deployed and probably destroyed or still in the conflicts but they had to stop putting the tank in the parade because it wasn't the problem of it having to go in a straight line but the parade had to make some turns to go though the route and I guess it messed up the pavement too much when it turned.

    I mean the US has an amazing military and a parade is a good way to show strength
    Just like how the Russians keep doing it in Victory day

    The entire war lasted a week. The overwhelming majority of Americans killed were killed in accidents. Saddam's army fled or surrendered at the mere thought of the U.S. military was coming. The U.S. army were taking in so many prisoners that they quickly became overwhelmed and actually began turning away Iraqis wanting to surrender. The biggest battle of the entire war was when the retreating Iraqi army commandeered any vehicle available, taxis. buses, private cars, commercial trucks, to get out of Kuwait. The U.S. sent in fighters and strafed the retreating convoy of civilian vehicles. Explosions and fire brought death to the defenseless exposed Iraqis. The First Iraqi War was the most lopsided joke of a war in U.S. history. George H.W. Bush was a committed globalist. He wanted the war to be a global effort. The left and it's media supported Bush because of his globalist stance. Bush pulled out all the stops with his military victory parade. In contrast, Trump has a couple of tanks that are static displays, and few military drill teams, a few military bands. And a flyover of a few planes and the Dems start crying over the cost.

  • @___jd

    2:22 Those are F-117 Nighthawks. They are stealth, but they aren't bombers. The F stands for Fighter (although it's actually an Attack aircraft lol). The B-2 Spirit (B is for Bomber) is likely what he thought he was talking about.
