    If you, correctly, mention Silja Symphony as the third vessel at the Estonia disaster you should note that Mariella was the first. Deferring to experience, Esa Mäkelä, commanding Silja Europa and second vessel to arrive, was appointed on-scene commander.
    24 years later this still chills my spine: ruclips.net/video/V5tbah19qo8/видео.html

      Indeed, when Estonia sent her first Mayday message, Mariella was the nearest ship, at a few miles North, but when she arrived, Estonia had already sunk; only a few lifeboats, people and some stuff were over the sea. The weather was really bad that night.
      The other ships that participated in the search for survivors, in addition to Mariella, Silja Europa and Silja Symphony, were Viking Line´s MS Isabella, and Silja Line´s Finnjet and Finnmerchant.

    Born in Bergen Norway, Made seven Atlantic crossings on Norwegian American Line, one on Stavangerfjord, two on Bergensfjord, one on Oslofjord, two on Vistafjord and one on Sagafjord. Ended up in the states, and spent six years in the US Navy, four on the aircraft carrier USS Hornet CVS12. Recovered Apollo 11 and 12 while on her. She is now a museum, and I'm on the Board of Directors.
    Have enjoyed multiple cruises over the years on NCL, RCCL, Princess and lately Celebrity. Hopefully more to come.
    I think I can conclude I love ships and the open ocean.
    Thanks for the great videos. I discovered them last week and have been watching a few every day. Please keep it up.
    One question. How do you do all this traveling?
    Thanks

I will have an interesting ferry video up soon for ship and sea lovers so keep an eye on my channel. I do my videos and traveling when on my days off from work :)

    • @Rallarbusen
      @Rallarbusen 6 лет назад +2

      That is a quite recent change. Tallink got Silja Europa back from charter and put her in the Helsinki-Tallinn one-day cruise slot, moved Baltic Queen to Tallinn-Stockholm and moved Romantika to Stockholm-Riga, pairing her with Isabelle to give Stockholm-Riga a daily service.

      3-4 years is what I call recent. I've been on BQ Sto-Tallinn and Romantika Sto-Riga. But some 3-4 years ago I went with Romantika Sto-Tallinn and had BQ berthing in Tallinn in view from my hotelroom, clearly in the Hel-Tal pleasure route.

      @@jacquesmertens3369 It was actually sold to Italy. Now Tallink has MS Megastar instead. Also, it takes 2h for Tallink ships to cross the Gulf of Finland. In the future, Tallinn and Helsinki see planned to be connected more physically by railway tunnel (30 min travel) in addition to ships. But that's coming maybe in 2030-2040s.
