John Nix Voice Pedagogy Lecture on Vocal Tract Resonances

This lecture took place on October 24, 2023 at the University of Texas at San Antonio. In the class, we discuss the concept of resonance, that resonators have certain frequencies to which they best respond, that the vocal tract can be shaped at will, that vocal tract shapes have resonance frequencies, and thus vowels, which are vocal tract shapes, have resonance frequencies. This is the key to understanding the classic source-filter theory of vowels.
