By far, James Taylor is the biggest star to come out of the Taylor family, but Livingston was also a star in his own right. Their voices are nearly identical & Livingston is a very talented song writer. I read that he stopped touring & recording because he thought that the reason that he was becoming famous was because of brother James ! He wanted to do it on his own. Another brother, Alex, knew that the reason that he was recording WAS because of brother James. He knew it was James' coattails that he was riding ! He even named his son "Sweet Baby James" !!
Livingston is an AMAZING songwriter, I totally agree. Songs like Falling in Love with You and Best of Friends (duetting w/ Carly Simon) are just unbelievably good. I like to imagine a timeline where Livingston & James played together more often, in a kind of unofficial brother-band. Something akin to Kings of Convenience.
@@AgentDoubleOOP I began listening to him in 1970 (yes, I'm old). One of my favorite songs is from his "Liv" album, "Get Out of Bed" ! I was at Kent State at the time. I used a "clapper" connected to my small stereo & set the time so it would be my alarm clock. I loved waking up to that song !
@@pizzaman5169 HOLY COW, listening to Get Out of Bed right now-- I think I'm going to have to do the same. A while ago, my alarm was Caves of Altamira by Steely Dan, and boy, did that improve my attitude, heehee. Such a perfect song for waking up, too, because it doesn't just startle you with something peppy, phbft-- it's the glorious anticipation of the introduction. Thank you super-duper much! And no one is ever truly old if they keep listening to good music, I think. Keeps a heart young and happy. : )
@@AgentDoubleOOP That was right about the time of the shootings at Kent State, May 4, 1970. They did try to kill us back then.
@@AgentDoubleOOP Liv is also one of the nicest and generous persons I have ever had the good fortune to work with at a benefit concert which unfortunately didn't raise the needed $ intended for a local Visiting Nursing Association. He returned his fee as a result. Now mind you, this shortfall had nothing to do with Livingston's ability to draw a crowd, or popularity at all, it was the result of inexperienced promotional abilities of the promoters, AND a huge Bonnie Raitt concert happening at Tanglewood a few miles up the road that summer. I will NEVER forget this man's generosity and good will EVER.
Never seen James having so much fun or look so joyful while playing on stage
Stage full of TAYLORS ! How lucky are we !
As Alex Taylor's last producer let me say that Alex was truly great !. Alex was "a one take master", what an amazing voice !..Many of his recordings remain in my archives Thank you Actor Dan Aykroyd for your kind endorsement..
Have you posted any of those recordings? I have one of Alex's vinyl records somewhere, but I certainly would like to hear more of his music.
Alex HAS A GREAT GREAT SOUL FEELING VOICE FOR THE AGES .! HI Mr Rik
Such a timeless song...such a timeless clip. I never will tire of watching this again and again.
Let the truth be told that every member of the Taylor family is gifted and talented.Carly is the most beautiful soul and she has enlightenment to be in awe of. Kate, Carly and Sally are the three roses of Tralee.Haters just keep silent please because family is sacred.
Ah! The Taylors in the 80's Reminds me of the amazing summers we spent living on Martha's Vineyard and those summer nights out at the airport at The Hot Tin Roof with all of them up there on stage. "Skintight" was Alex and Kate's band. Good times!!
Was lucky to see unannounced Carly sets at the Roof twice
I was fortunate to see this performance live on TV that night, so I saw and heard the entire song.
Bless Alex, he was very gifted. Love ❤️ your performance James
Wow!!! What an incredibly talented family and feeling blessed, even via RUclips, to see them performing together! Wow!
I saw Livingston many many years ago as opening act for Jethro Tull and he had the audience spellbound with his talent. I would normally expected that crowd to be booing for Tull to hurry up and come on but they were loving him and he did this thing were he kept saying I'm going to play this song that you all know and he kept talking and saying that for a little while but I can assure you the last thing expected to hear that night was Somewhere Over the Rainbow it was excellent I am glad I was there that night.
I am beyond thrilled that this was filmed and recorded. I just love when families get together and perform this beautifully. There’s just something about those familial bonds.
so much talent in one family amazing
Wow! That made me cry! Thanks for posting! ♥️👍♥️
I once got to sing with Livingston at Cleveland-area outdoor amphitheatre Cain Park. It was a sold out show, and I was terrified. I had the "minor responsibility" of singing James ' part in City Lights. Liv took such risks! But we killed! Liv can make anyone seem like they know what they are doing. Go to a Livingston Taylor show and it might be you!
I had the pleasure of seeing Livingston Taylor perform at Seton Hall University way back in the 1970s. No doubt about it, he was a great talent and entertainer!
I feel so good every time I listen to this song.
great video. Got to know Hugh Taylor and played with him a few times. One really great guy!
This is superb. Lovely seeing Alex as well. Thanks for sharing!
love this video nice to see James older brother Alex
JT really enjoyed the time on stage he had with his siblings what a fine performance

AMERICAN MUSICAL FAMILY GOD GIVEN TALENT TOGETHER ON ONE STAGE SENDING LOVE TO THE WORLD DOESNT GET ANY BETTER KEEP SHOWERING .28 LEAD SINGER EARONS NYC BAND FROM EARON EARTH JUST LIKE YOU PEACE
love to sing with your siblings ❤️
James looked like he was enjoying that.
Ira Post so much! This is the way this song should always be sung with that same amount of passion...really LIVING those words your singing! I truly love how in the moment James is, here.
I love his voice and Carly's too. I hadn't realized he was so incredibly handsome. He and the very lovely Carly made such a really neat pair!!
If James hadn't been a heroin addict, I think they would've lasted.
Perhaps. I've seen James say several times he was just too young. Coupled with the heroin it was a disaster in the making.
@@deborahsmith1639after the divorce he stopped speaking to Carly
The whole family have put out albums (don't know about Hugh though) and they're musical, to say the very least. Alex Taylor was one soul-full cat and was a monster of a singer. Look him up on here.
What a thrill this must've been.
Mom and Dad have got to be proud of the Taylors :)
So great! I miss Alex.
Great performance
Saw JT in Chapel Hill and will never forget sitting on the ground underneath the stage and he sitting on a stool and singing to me!
was that at Kenan Stadium in early 70's? Can't remember the name of the wild weekend…
@@mgeesmith Jubilee Weekend 1970
Livingston also has a great voice . . . check out some of his videos and you'll be impressed . . .
True!
"Just Good Friends" a Chesky Records disc. In my desert island collection.
Yes, & he is a fine guitarist, too. I expect you've heard the song Liv does as if he were announcing an Olympic guitar contest in which he, James, & Eric Clapton are playing for medals. It's hilarious.
Singing with family can't be beat.
I would've loved to grow up in that family. Just for the music talent, screw the money.
Such an interesting diverse family.❤
.....jane has it wrong, they all got their love of music FROM Alex.
Alex and Livingston were both gifted. Just saying.
And Ben. Would love to know more about Alex's kids. His eldest son is named James. Sweet Baby James was written for him.
@@roxannemoser , Ben deserves much more fame. He's wonderful, & I have loved, followed, gone to concerts of, & bought Liv's music since the early Seventies. I once saw James & Ben at a concert in East Lansing, Michigan.
blue crane ALL of the Taylor siblings were/are! That gift was even passed down to another group of talented sibs, Ben, Sally, Rufus and Henry. Must be something in that Taylor blood...
Love to sing with family😊
James looks so happy. James is so very talented. James appears to be surrounded by love. How could James give this all up for heroin? I'm so glad that he cleaned up his life and it didn't end like so many others for the past 40 years. On another note, I read that he hasn't spoken to Carly for 35 years. Damn James, give her a call.
Their all talented. Listen to Ben Taylor, James son.
Ben has matured a lot and a fine musician in his own right. With parents like his is it anywonder he's a remarkable musician. All of James children are outstanding. What a legacy he has left.
It's too bad the oldest brother Alex died so young of alcoholism. He was talented and was a real good guy. I think he was in Sanford Florida at a recording studio, he drank way too much and chocked on his own vomit. The John Bonnon way of dieing. I'm sure his passing left a tremendous void in the lives of the Taylor family. I watched an interview of Livingston Taylor and he spoke well of his big brother. Spoke of fond childhood memories. James continues to be a great talent and I've always enjoyed his music as long as I can remember.
for James' musical tribute/farewell to Alex find "Enough to Be on Your Way" from Hourglass... Alice = Alex
Great song!
Chris Clifton on guitar. All are an amazing talent.
TRIVIA: James Taylor was the first solo artist signed on The Beatles Apple Record company
Late brother Alex is the one with a beard in the blue shirt, Hugh the blond in the vest, Livingston the skinny brunette in the white shirt and Kate is well Kate.
Livingston is the blond.
A M A Z I N G!
Livingston is the blond with the vest
Gorgeous xx
❤❤❤❤❤
James is obviously in his glory here .How cool is this ,right ?
They all sang or sing!!! 🎶🎶🎶
Check out Kate & Livingston & Alex & Hugh on YT!
Love them anyway. It's in Luke, somewhere, I haven't read the Bible, actually, but it's a good line.
I saw Livingston in 1980 live, Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA. He was great! Some stupid person had to yell "where's your brother" that day (rude). Of course I yelled back "rude"! It was rude. I won't ever forget seeing Livingston that day, and I still tell people about it. I find it odd, though, that his hit song back then "I Will Be In Love With You" can't be watched here on RUclips. You can see James singing everything he did, why not Livingston? Red tape, record label bureaucracy at it's finest! Yuck!
James Taylor is truly the star of that family, no fuckin brainer
onefoot7 rude!
& false.
Oh yeah! 😄😄😄❤
I remember watching this the night it aired -- with a blanket stuffed into the space under my bedroom door so my parents wouldn't know I was up. I'm pretty sure they also sang The Weight. Can anyone back me up on this, or better still, does anyone have a copy they can post? (By the way, Skye Tronn, thanks for posting this.)
I saw it too way back then. They effectively performed The Weight, each sibling singing a verse. And don't they all look alike?
Robert -- Yeah, yeah that'''s the way I remember it too! Glad I'm not the only one. I actually found it online about ten years ago. Wish I had saved it, would love to see it again.
Very strong family resemblance.
In French, we call this phenomenon having a strong "air de famille".
Robert Laberge, My favorite French expression is "esprit de l'escalier;" I often wonder if French people actually use it.
Hi Skye, do you have the video of the Taylor's performing Livingston's "It's Love" from that same "Tomorrow" show?
Wish I could say that I do! I didn't even know that was part of this. I'll tell you if I find anything. : )
Thank You.
looks like a very competitive family
Funny you say that.... I can't think.of a less competitive group...
Who says they weren't stars? Little do you know . . .
Damn alcoholism .....
80’s hair. Yuck!
I think it's pretty
hey at least they HAD hair!
