Hope you have better luck with your transfer pump than I did. Had the same one and it lasted about 4 or 5 uses, when I contacted the place I bought it from in Chelmsford they said it should not have been left in the jerry can, to remove it after every use.

I've had this pump in my gas can for 2 years now. I only put #1 fuel in this can. It's for my lawn mowers, trimmers, atv and sxs. Maybe your gas was cheaper gas and maybe old?
