That’s his compensation for a job well done. My uncle is completely blind, he doesn’t need a dog anymore , he gets around on his own amazingly. But when he did he was constantly giving him toys and treats for all his hard work. He was named Wesley after the Star Trek character.

@Avendesora I questioned how blind she was bc she knew where the dog was going and what for. Made me think "is legally blind enough to get a dog bc I'm already at -7.00 which apparently is a high concern."
Took my dog to a pub once and the staff gave him a piece of processed chicken. Now whenever we walk past he tries to go in. They remember!
gave my landlords dog a treat once and new he always tries to follow me into mine. he tried to break into my therapy session once. he's a sweet boy and gets so excited if he's outside when I get back from work
Local restaurant gave my dog willy some chicken that gave him the wet shits for 2 days!

That’s why Starbucks and other coffee places started doing “pup cups” and “pupuccinos” and why lots of drive throughs now offer dog treats, it’s so that when people have their dogs and see the places the dog will get excited and try to convince their owner to take them
There’s a convenience store in my sister’s neighborhood that allows dogs inside and the register employees give out treats. When my sister and her dog get to the corner where they can go one way to go home or go the other way to go to the convenience store, he will literally sit down and not move if she tries to go the direction of home first.

This is a lovely reminder that service dogs aren't robots! They're more than 'medical equipment' as well, they're beloved companions with special jobs, and sometimes their tax for that special job is finding plushies!
@@Felix-jo7nj This. My mom and I spoil our service dogs so much because they work so hard for us. They deserve the best of everything. My entire justification to her for a water treatment system wasn't that the water was bad for us but for our service dogs

They're often smaller mass than a human; and their metabolism is faster as well, so the more impurities in their water the faster it will affect them.
The dogs my family has will drink from a mud puddle if you let them; but I'd rather they drink from at least a basic pitcher-filter to limit their exposure to diluted compounds.
Girl a dog needing to check a spot because they found something awesome one time is SO real. In a juxtaposition, my dog was born blind and once stumbled upon a bush that had a family of cats living in it, and she LOVES cats. We took one of the kittens in and got the rest housed, but every day we need to check the magical kitten bush.

Molly, in case no one has told you this, whenever you speak (and are stationary) Elton looks at you with love in his eyes and his tail immediately starts wagging. Its the cutest thing!

I didnt know Newfoundlands could be used as guide dogs. This is my first time seeing this. I know they are a working breed, but never thought they had enough drive for this task. Ive only seen them in chill mode. Cool!

she can see light and shadow (like most blind people) and there's a light on the camera. also if you literally look at her eyes you can see them shake which would affect her vision

This will sound weird, but does Elton know you are blind? Like is he aware that you have this difference and has any understanding that his job is to be your eyes? Or does he just do his trained job without a deeper understanding of why? I'm not even sure how you'd be able to know. Maybe if he treats other blind folk in a similar way? Or being naughty right in front of you knowing you can't see. Not that he'd _ever_ be naughty. ;)
I honestly have no idea, but I feel like from what Molly says it seems like he does know that she’s blind. Obviously that’s just my interpretation of what she has shared, but it seems to me like he is aware (at least to some degree) that she can’t see

As far as I know, dogs don't understand abstract concepts like blindness. But they notice that their master is behaving differently. They probably adapt to this situation + provide their master with information about the world.

My Aunt is blind and she is very dependent on her family members to get around. Her son actually is no longer with us so I really wish she’d apply for a service dog 😣 he’s beautiful and so smart!

Its not good to give dogs stuffed toys because some dogs actually try grab stuffed toys off of children and babies which can end up with injury. It happened to my friends dog with their baby, dog hurt the baby trying to get the teddy because he thought it was his toy.
@DanSgambelluriobviously not trained well enough if he just goes wherever he wants to!! This is not a well trained service animal because he should not be taking her places without her prompting it or he could see something across the street from her and cause a accident or worse! A service animal should never be allowed to make its own decisions about where she goes 😮

My dog Snoopy is a service dog. Since a puppy, the local DIY shop and Greggs (U.K. bakery) have given him treats. Can't walk past those 2 shops without him stopping for cwtches and treats!
