@@TheClericCorner Thank you, love the channel btw. Luckily the game is fully homebrew, so while the change isn’t a big concern, I think I’ll likely take a skill related feat and flavor the crafting as being an aspect of them. I’m really excited for the upcoming Monsters’ book honestly, even if it gets rid of a few specific race skills, it is probably the right direction to move in.
A friend once played a cat warlock as a previous familiar who awakened when the warlock messed up big time, died horribly, and got a piece of his soul thrown into his cat familiar. One of the first quests for the rest of the party was getting him away from the crazy old cat lady that dressed him up in fancy outfits and called him Senor Poofypants.
My favorite race reflavoring is still halfling to mousefolk. Fits all too well. And on that matter, just go full-on Redwall. Dwarves make good badgers, moles, or even sewer rats with their poison resistance, elves great hares or squirrels... a lot of possibilities.
That’s a cool idea! I reflavored the PC Goblin to a Ratfolk, it worked out really well. The Fury of the Small and free bonus action stealth stuff was perfect.
I personally think that Changelings can be a really good substitute for a Kitsune race with their natural charm, shape changing abilities, and a fey like spiritual origin, if you ever find yourself in a Japanese inspired campaign that might be a good option.
probably, but the problem with Shifters is that their shifting is limited to 1 minute and you can only do it so many times a day whereas Changelings can make their form whatever and they stay in that form until they die which falls more in line with the mythology of the Kitsune. I once heard about this one story of a Kitsune who fell in love with a human and so disguised themselves as a human and lived alongside them until they got married to another person, at which point the Kitsune left behind a letter telling them the truth and running away, never to be seen again. That was a long way of saying that that would be pretty hard to do in 1 minute.
While I wasn’t able to connect with some of the older races, I still really enjoyed going through this. I’m also quite excited to see where it could go, like a sea elf as a sahuagin fish person or a warforged as a blight. Or seeing how classes could affect the races maybe, like a war forged spore druid could instead be a myconid. I really do hope you continue this because it seems like a blast, although for the older, lesser known races, I would probably prefer a little bit more description on them like you did for the humans. I'm curious what your takes will be. Variant Human is such an easy one to reflavor, but the others, not so much. I could see maybe a Tanuki or Giant-kin for the Dwarves or Gnomes given their craftsmanship. Tiefling is an easy reflavor to fire-elemental-esque individual, with Darkness being reflavored to smoke (which magical darkness works more like anyways). Drow can be a fungus, with Light, Faerie Fire, and Darkness being different types of spores.
Haha stop before you spoil my video! 😂 JK but variant human was the hardest actually because there is really nothing TO reflavor. There isn't enough uniqueness to choose that over custom lineage. But I kind of took a different take on it, so hope you like it!
There is a shorter half gnome half elf like race that gets +2 and (+1 x4 ) in their stats, they are able to pull out any random object from their clothes that even they don't know about or why it is so, this makes them branded as thieves easily and would make a fantastic race for a tief/rogue class. The object dissapears after 1 hour and its limited to 1 object at a time so its very random what you get, i wonder what would happen If you copy it with magic and recreate it with real materials If it has a magical effect
@@TheClericCorner how about variant human being excellent at a random thing such as reading 3 times as fast or talking 3 times as fast If they want to, perhaps they can even copy birds voices or fart spesific sounds
Thanks to the inspiration from this video, I am now playing an Emerald Gem Dragonborn that has been reflavoured to an Illithid (Mind Flayer). So once again, thank you ;)
I personally have re flavoured the kalashtar from eberron to be a mind flayer character that has been partially disconnected from its elder brain (yet gets messages or knowledge from it still on when it sleeps) which is re flavouring the Kalashtars Severed from Dreams ability.
I love reflavoring!! Someone once said "flavor is free" and I couldn't agree more. Unless it hard-breaks setting immersion like turning your arcane focus into a chainsaw, flavor is perfect for being able to get your image of a character without using homebrew (coming from a homebrew addict). Reflavoring any sort of nature-oriented race as "some kid who spent way too much time in a magic forest" is great. Honestly, I just find playing as humans fun and easy and so often times I'll just turn any origin as "human but magic" which works for me. Keep making videos like these, I think its really important people learn how to have fun with flavor!
This is great! I really like this idea! I kind of did the opposite for one of my characters, I used my class as an extension of race. I was a bear totem barbarian Earth Genasi and I reflavored the damage resistance from rage as my skin becoming more stone-like.
I like the idea of flavoring a Dwarf as an Azer or Minotaur as more of a rhino 🦏 instead of a bull. The Tiefling could be a Cambion taking more demon instead of devil heritage.
I made a fairy, was new to DnD, and used the test Fairy character stats, which are slightly OP, but my DM, let me keep some of the fairy dust magic at base level with stipulations, and it was a life cleric, so hoover is a great way to stay away from danger and still heal, while also using spiritual weapon and his magic always return boomerang. For my ghostlayer bloodhunter I reflavoured a Githyanki to what I call a Simican Bastard. A miscreation from a disbarred member of the Simic Hybrid guild who was basically what I call a flesh wizard. His colour was different and he looked grossly stitched together and is made from the parts of other races all cut up to make something new, but mechanically was for sure a Gith. It allowed me to tie the ghosts of the ghostslayer and the mechanical advantages of the Gith and to play a horrific figure in a horror campaign. Dude was reskinned literally
You should do a series with all of the classes and subclasses too, to show that a barbarian doesn't have to be angry or that bards don't have to be well spoken
I saw a random reddit comment that mentioned your channel. I had never heard of you before but watched this (the linked video) and really enjoy your content. Very interesting concept that is mentioned a lot but I haven't seen explored in a video before.
I tend to prefer homebrew if I'm going to play something strange, but I did do this once. I had a character who was a diposed evil noble seeking to reclaim his throne. His lineage were all deep ones, as per Lovecraft. He looked human, as he wasn't very old yet, but though he looked like a human, he was actually a triton. I never got to play as the campaign fell apart, but I was really looking forward to blowing people's minds when it turned out this plate-armored evil paladin had a swim speed.
Great idea! I am always looking for ways to play monsters and humanoid alternatives and this video (and more like this) will really help in character creation. recently I've been thinking about a PC/NPC Shadow as a character that might be fun to make.
I have used humans to do a lot of things with the free feat and some reskinning like going magical Initiate Druid to get Primal savagery (for a bite or claw attack), Guidance (to enhance skill check like Athletics, Perception, and Persuasion, and Cure Wound to regenerate HP
I am part of the NDA playtester of WotC during the Curse of Strahd play test. I helped a fellow player come up with this for a dhampir assassin. We had another player use the same spells and the Ape form to be a human with some elf blood to play off becoming a werewolf. I play a a mixed background of Charlatan and Haunted One to have been rescued from a hag who started the mesomorphs to become a Hag. She was a lore bard and used an crystal ball as an arcane focus in place of musical instrument. We joke it would have been nice to have been given a playtester credit in Van Richons considering we would have used Custom Linage, Dampire, Hexblood, and Collage of Spirits Bard
I have a half-dragon who gained some of his mothers shape-shifting power, however he was limited by his non-dragon side and so could only shift into humanoids… seemed kinda like a changeling 🤷♂️
I made a dragon rider build. Lizard folk hexblade pact of the chain warlock with 3 in beast barbarian. And I roll played as “bovril the bastard” an imp who thought it was an unbeatable dragon tamer. Basically my character was my mount and I role played the imp familiar. The Eldridge blast was the dragons breath weapon, the lizard folk beast barbarian claw attacks were the dragon’s attacks, and the investment of the chain invocation gave the imp a bonus action imp attack to strike from its dragon mount.
Whoa I'm 5.1k??? Two days ago I was still 4.8! You all are incredible. But also switching the roles of character and familiar is something I may have to steal. That's awesome 😂
@@TheClericCorner reskinning weapons is another good idea. I made a path of the wild magic barbarian bugbear with a maul. The story was that a wizard was trying to master the magic involved in teleporting their mind into other creatures. They tested the magic by first putting their body an a stasis outside of time so that his body wouldn't take damage. Then they put their mind in a gorilla test subject. Unfortunately the gorillas brain doesn't have the intelligence stat that the wizards mind had, so they don't know how to reverse the process. So now the wizard is stuck in a gorilla body and it carried around the wizards body which is still impervious to damage. Reskinned bugbear=gorilla. Reskinned maul=wizard body. The wild magic barbarian rage is the wizard letting the gorilla take over and the random magical effect is the wizards magic malfunctioning because they no longer know how to control it.

After watching your video on bards, I wanted to have a bard whose enchantment powers come from a fiendish inheritance, while also not just being a regular tiefling. I like where this went. Super fun super interesting. I'm could see that you had fun making this video. Would love to see more That being said I'd love some more character creation videos as well.
Idk about these but I had an idea for an eyeless mute telepathic mushroom people race that can see the electromagnetic field and other than that only can see through feeling vibrations like Toph from ATLA the telepathic part is inspired by this video I found that basically said mushrooms communicate with each other and that this guy used that to make electro music of sorts he’s called modern biology on tiktok it could be a monster OR a playable race
And expanding upon that maybe a Fae type race that’s plant- either just straight up plant or flower or both, with different variants including cactus, water lily??? Taking eladrin and making it a plant type person but without being an elf??? Same idea
Me going to a one shot "Here is my character" DM "Oh bugbear artificer nice" Me "No" DM "No?" Me "It uses bugbear stats, but it's not a bugbear" DM ".... Then what is it?" Me "Super intelligent artificer Gorilla"

@@TheClericCorner well one of the ways i am implimenting this idea.. is i am taking the board game Sherlock holmes in time which is a mystery game.. taking our world our of the equation and putting the mysteries into a fantasy dnd setting.. I always thought that you could reflavour Aarakocra as Pterafolk, Minotaur as Tricerafolk and green Dragonborn as that-creepy-thing-with-the-collar-that-spits-venom-in-Jurassic-Park-folk. Have yourself a Dungeons & Dragons & Dinos game, if you will.
Tieflings could also be reflavor as the a faithfull of/sorcerer blessed by a god of fire and night, or official/cleric/warlock of that god's faith, so the fire resistance and spells could be blessings from that god. If you go the official/cleric/warlock path than the bonuse to intelligence could be because your just smart and that was part of the reason why you got choosen, than the bonu to charisma could also be the result of your training in espionage, as a result of you being entrusted with gaining the loyalty (through whatever means) of governmental officials and politicians.
I had an idea for a red dragon hatched and raised by a powerful wizard of a chaotic nature with a heart of gold. Well during the early years of the dragons life the wizard is to be executed for some reason i didnt care to specify. The wizard wanting to save its dragon child so he casts a special polymorph him turning him into a human. So now Red has to gain power through experience so that he can cast polymorph on himself to get back to his dragon form... Spoiler alert he decides to use his human form more often...
I am once again, asking for your support. Hey everyone, I'm here to reach out for a little bit of help. I'm trying to make a Japan inspired dnd world, and the spot I'm really struggling on is reflavouring the races to fit the setting. I've got a couple ideas but overall I'm really struggling. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
The Shifter or Changeling is a perfect match for the kitsune, you could change the Dragonborn from western to eastern and play it as a lung Dragonborn.
I need to do a video on this eventually, so thank you for reminding me! Maybe bringing it up again in the discord. Unfortunately that culture is something I am not familiar with enough to feel qualified to answer. But maybe soon!
A reflavored Triton to be an Aventi. I actually did bring this up with a group that I play with. If I ever play a human, then it would have to be reflavored because the idea of playing a human doesn't interest me at all.
I like it, it is a good way to expand the races to new territory, while being common sense about it, and not delving too far off base with average racial traits/scores. Also, the DragonBall are extremely disappointing given how badass Lizardfolk are. I imagined the DragonBall basically being Lizardfold with Dragon breath, but are weaker than most races.
Hey I really like your idea about the dragonborn and want to make a black canary or sindek character (if u know who either of thoose are)with their scream. But I have a question would that just straight up be thunder damage caused by the loud noise, psychic damage because it messes with their head or necrotic damage because it pops like the veins in their head.(I meant sindel)
What kind of hyper-assertive, overly ambitious person thinks EVERYONE wishes that they could get a full night's sleep in 4 hours? Some people really enjoy that full eight hours and aren't so wound up and preoccupied with "making it" or "being successful" that they want to be awake all the time. Take things more slowly, spend time being present and aware of when you are instead of preoccupied with the future.

I actually have a character already that is a Young Red Dragon who tried to polymorph like the ancient’s can and got stuck as Draconic Sorcerer Human.
Lol love it! 😂
Same idea
Great video! You've given me some ideas...
Ooh! Exciting!!
@@TheClericCorner Well, my game is GURPS, noy DnD, but you've given me quite a bit on inspiration. :)
Really good vid bro
Appreciate it!! Thank you for the comment!
Me going to a one shot
"Here is my character"
DM
"Oh bugbear artificer nice"
Me
"No"
DM
"No?"
Me
"It uses bugbear stats, but it's not a bugbear"
DM
".... Then what is it?"
Me
"Super intelligent artificer Gorilla"
Yes yes yes yes yes...so much yes
I like playing half elves as humans who are connected to the faywild, like captured by fairies as infants and raised there.
I like that! There are so many different elves depending on where they live, but why not humans??
I was thinking about reflavoring a bugbear to get a troll character and also reflavoring a githzerai an the would could be a mind flayer
well done.. how about a world flavor... we just started a wizard of oz based mini campaign. But its in space.. we just landed on Oz2 we wear space onsies with startrek like logos that say Wiz corp.. cute as can be
Oh that's so interesting!! I'd like to hear what all you mean by world flavor
@@TheClericCorner well one of the ways i am implimenting this idea.. is i am taking the board game Sherlock holmes in time which is a mystery game.. taking our world our of the equation and putting the mysteries into a fantasy dnd setting.. We also took the wizard of oz and took it from being What the books are to being a space crew Its not so much homebrewing as it is just reflavoring something known into something a lil different
I liked it! Make more?
How hularious would it be to "catch Hellbred" by being Hurled into Hell by a Fiend Warlock?
A firbolg as a vine or twig blight
I always thought that you could reflavour Aarakocra as Pterafolk, Minotaur as Tricerafolk and green Dragonborn as that-creepy-thing-with-the-collar-that-spits-venom-in-Jurassic-Park-folk.
Have yourself a Dungeons & Dragons & Dinos game, if you will.
Oooh, yes, absolutely!!
The venom spitting one was (supposed to be) Dilophosaurus.
@@DragonKingZero Dilophofolk then?
Tieflings could also be reflavor as the a faithfull of/sorcerer blessed by a god of fire and night, or official/cleric/warlock of that god's faith, so the fire resistance and spells could be blessings from that god. If you go the official/cleric/warlock path than the bonuse to intelligence could be because your just smart and that was part of the reason why you got choosen, than the bonu to charisma could also be the result of your training in espionage, as a result of you being entrusted with gaining the loyalty (through whatever means) of governmental officials and politicians.
Love that idea! Such a great add!
@@TheClericCorner Thank you very much good gentleman!
As does a lot of people 😂 but that's a great reflavor! I'll have to jot that down
This is fun.
I would like more
Awesome
A drow as a vampire or revenant
i got gadgets and gizmos a plenty
Beautiful video, I was thinking of using reflevoring to create a Kitsune and I was thinking of a Changeling, what do you think?
I think that's definitely a popular choice for it!
@@TheClericCorner Thanks.
For the half orc I would make it a half ogre
Perfect reflavor!
I'm more familiar with black canary than sindel, but I imagine you could do any one of them and theme your character from there!
@@TheClericCorner okay thank u keep up your amazing work u have inspired me for so many ideas its not even surprising
@@jamesfloyd7552 keep up the creative mind!! 🤗
hey! can you do this using "Monsters of the Multiverse" please?
On the list!
Hello from tiktok
Lol hello and welcome! 😂
Or as a human make yourself a flesh golem
Great ideas!!
Reskin reskin reskin
i know a wey
What kind of hyper-assertive, overly ambitious person thinks EVERYONE wishes that they could get a full night's sleep in 4 hours? Some people really enjoy that full eight hours and aren't so wound up and preoccupied with "making it" or "being successful" that they want to be awake all the time. Take things more slowly, spend time being present and aware of when you are instead of preoccupied with the future.
I see you always begging for subs and views in the D&D UK group on FB. It’s so annoying! If your content was any good at least. I’ve blocked you now and will never sub.
