  • A 3m extending landing net pole is a must for lots of rivers that feature high steep banks, or for those tricky swims which have lots of nearbank reeds or snags. A long extendable pole really is your best friend in helping you land your quarry.
The short video features one of the best landing net poles on the market for river fishing, I have used quite a few extendable poles, but the 2 featured I have found to be the best around for quality and value.
The Drennan specialist pole is the most commonly used amongst chub and barbel up and down the country, but I think the featured darent valley from the Tackle Box really does give it a good run for its money.
There are quite a few poles on the market and sadly some of them are simply not suitable and safe enough to use. I have known of top branded poles that simply glue in the threaded end that the net attaches to and in turn comes lose over time and result in the net coming off the end and, which is not ideal to lose a net in the river, even worse with a fish in the bottom of the net.
The Drennan Super Specialist pole retails for around £55 and weighs only 13 oz. where as the Darent Valley available only through the Tackle Box cost only £35 and weighs in at 15oz.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Very useful comparison.
The Gardner 3m landing net handle is really heavy by the way.

Good video bub, I have had three of the Drennan twist lock handles now as each one the plastic bush which locks it has perished away resulting in the handle not locking and as far as I know you can't buy a replacement.

I purchased the Darent valley as a spare / backup to the Drennan .. ( luckily very cheap and new ) ,, the plastic screw adjuster split after the 3rd time of use .... I’ve decided to put a piece of plastic tube over and glue it ,, hopefully it will suffice .. As you said very smooth handle so I’ve also added a couple of strips of anti slip tape ... good review of both handles to be honest.. * ya pays ya money, ya get what ya pay for * ...

Thanks for viewing. That's a shame to hear about your Darent valley pole, mine is now a couple of years old and still as good as new. Great tip about the anti slip tape. Just out of interest did you contact the Tackle Box about the issue? they may well of replaced it for you. :)

I've got the drennan and the gardner one. I prefer the drennan as it's much lighter.

The Advanta only goes to 2m - sometimes you need a 3m for those steep banks or hard to fish swims :)
