I really appreciate your great efforts in those reviews but actually I feel like it's some sort of just transforming the written comparison to a video format! I am looking for more details, real comparison that should be ended with your recommendation as an expert. Me as an end user and not expert in such machines, still confused and not able to take a decision which one is better to buy! Really need your feedback and recommendations. Thanks
Both great machines, but my vote goes to the Oscar II :) Doesn't look as great but your $ goes to the stuff inside, like the professional Sirai pressurestat and stronger 2L boiler.
I have the Oscar II and I really appreciate the times dosing. It really helps you brew and steam at the same time. But the rocket looks better and appears more substantially constructed.
Dimitris C. Constant issues with pressure, flow, rate at which water made contact with puck. Sold it and bought an Oscar - making outstanding coffee again.
1️⃣What kind of plastic is that water reservoir? Have you noticed that so many are plastic, nuzzled up against a hot boiler? I would love to see companies respect the idea that (especially women!) consumers are aware that *heat-degrading plastics can really have serious health impacts*. Though as heavy as it would be, I can imagine a LOT of people would be happy to upgrade to glass, heavy reservoirs & decant into them. 2️⃣the Rocket looks awesome inside, I imagine one could have it reconfigured for moving between electrical standards? If I'm spending that cash, I would love to take it with me next time...
Hi Gail. Well it arrived, I am now the owner of the Oscar II and it is a fantastic machine. It makes a great cup of coffee as you reviewed. And thanks for the first review you did. I have been using Rolling Thunder coffee from Grind House and it make a wicked flat white. The steam arm is incredible! I have adjusted the length of time to produce a good crema using a 20gram double basket. I would recommend this machine especially as I bought from Cafe Italia who ad a bundle offer with the Grinta which I am having fun adjusting. I have limited myself to 3 cups a day as it make quite wonderful brew. Cheers.
HI, I think the Oscar II doesn't have pre-infusion... check this video ruclips.net/video/XjhVdaP8jcw/видео.html the water comes out in one time. Or the pre-infusion on the Oscar II is different from others? Thanks.
i have oscar 2. my machine SOMETIMES has pre infusion. yeah it's confusing i know. but sometimes it uses pre infusion and sometimes it doesnt. get the rocket if you can. stay away from oscar 2
I just ordered the Oscar II. I was going to get a Racillio Silva but the single boiler and wait time made it seem like so much more work. Thinking I'll be happier with the Oscar II in the long run but worried it won't be as reliable and tried and true as the Rancilio Silva. Didn't want to spend more money for the rocket when I don't think end product is any better.

Hi Gail I have a question for you, How many cappuccino's can you make in a row before the machines need to reheat or is it pretty much continuous? Thanks in advance.
The Premium Plus from Rocket has a PID if that is a feature you are looking for. www.seattlecoffeegear.com/rocket-espresso-cellini-premium-plus-with-pid You might also want to check this video out as some food for thought: ruclips.net/video/8i4di_7AgWQ/видео.html
Hey Gail, I currently mix little bit of tap water into RO water that I use for the appartamento for the reason you mentioned in the video. How will that affect the boiler in the long run with scaling? Is there a better way than mixing tap water in there? Thanks
This is a comparison video :D We make drinks in all the Crew Reviews! Check them out for these two machines: ruclips.net/video/nYEhmabfEfs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/P8z7mObdXN4/видео.html Cheers!
Have had the oscar 2 for 2 years. Previously had the rocket r58. If you want to make good drinks - get the nuova, if looks are most important the Rocket is the clear choice. The e61 takes forever to warm up and is had lots of internal parts with increased room for error.
@@love2fly59 MUCH longer than that. Yes it was household 110V. But even with the boiler getting up to temp - the group head of the e61 takes a lot longer than 10 min to get warm and siphon to a stable temp. The Oscar still wins out there. I miss the rotary pump though!
@@snjspring We're almost on the same page now! On 220V the set temperature is reached in under 8 minutes but isn't fully stable. At 8 -10 minutes the temp drop (in the pluggable Rocket display) during extraction is the same - about 2-3° C - as when the R58 has been on for hours. Please do be aware that I only use the espresso boiler, dual boiler is for when family or friends visit. Yep, the rotary pump is a killer! I went in looking for an excuse to spring for the on-sale R58 vs Appartameno; the blind taste test between the two sold me. Add in pump longevity, silence, insulated boilers and the price difference is almost easy to justify. Was harder with the Fausto grinder. Still really happy with both after 3 years - highly recommended gear!
@@love2fly59 sounds like you have the right setup. I'm getting a synesso single group that I plan to use for small scale kiosk coffee now that I've got a roaster.
@@love2fly59 you're times actually make sense compared to a 110V when I always ran both boilers. In fact, my wife complained about it all the time because we would wait so long from wanting a coffee to the machine coming to temp.
I had Oscar II just for one month and it is not a good machine. In fact you can find several videos with a kind of issue where the machine stops water because there's a "bug" in its design. I have had a Rocket Appartamento for 8 months (until now) and for me it is an excellent machine in terms of design, size, shot quality, even I have been able to "upgrade" parts such as its shower.
@@Nizamm1 ufff like a rolls Royce. I love my machine 🥰. I’ve modified it the recent years with flow control, valve adjusting, shower and baskets from IMS and the blue silicon gasket. It’s a great machine.
@@Nizamm1 I think for small office use is ok, for example for making a 1-2 cups every 15-20 minutes. Although you will need to refill the water tank constantly because its small size.
Rocket FTW!! but the steam power you mentioned, could the oscar has 4 hole (Smaller holes) compared with rocket 2 hole (Bigger hole) thats why it shows a weaker steaming power? compare them by steaming the same amount of milk and check its quality!! but i think oscar will win that!! haha
Oscar 2 is just money for value, u could not find any HX machines with competition grade steam power with that money on the market, the downside earlier for this machine is lack of OPV adjustment, but it was fixed with recent update, its will be quick fix for your daily coffee & milk
+Seattle Coffee Gear If the small price gap isn't an issue go for the Rocket! Why even consider the Oscar? That said the Oscar is a good machine for the price point.... I'm just too much of a Rocket fanboy!
@Gregg Sinini Good on you, feeling happy with your old set-up again! You hit the nail right on the head with you description of what happens when you see new stuff. Can be applied to anything, clothes, cars, anything you find again stored away after a long time and re-discover....better for the environment ,too, not just for your wallet! Thnx for the laugh I got out of your last sentence! Don't we all!
The one on the left has a touch panel with buttons to control functions which means that it also has a microprocessor to interpret those button presses and control functions on the machine, connected to electronically actuated switches and valves. Those are inherently flimsy, fragile parts that will not last and when they break, repair and replacement will no doubt be very expensive and required parts will eternally be on back order. The Rocket is all analogue. Knobs, valves and levers. Normal people with basic tools can diagnose, repair and replace them and parts are widely available. Companies replace manual controls with buttons and logic because there is a portion of the population that fetishizes technology and thinks that a high tech version of something is always better than an analogue version. I'll stipulate that a computer is better than an abacus, but with espresso machines and things like them, analog wins. You buy a high end espresso machine to enhance the experience of making coffee. You do not achieve that by lazily pressing a button.
As the other reply pointed out, the professionals use buttons. You don't see traditional machines in coffee shops. As for the fetish for technology thing.. It could also be that maybe some consumers want to be able to fine tune their espresso, dial it in, and have a perfect cup every day without any fuss. With an analog machine, you have two choices. You either accept that your espresso will never be consistent and live with it or you break out the gram scale and timer every time.
I have Oscar, really like it, and the steam wand is amazing. Great shots and super micro foam in seconds. BTW, I really find your partner lady on a lot of your videos obnoxious and loud. Just saying.
That apartamento is a gorgeous machine
I think for the price point and similar features you should be comparing the Appartamento to the Musica

Rocket wins the beauty department by a landslide. No competition there
It does! But more to go wrong! Levers=valves and seals! Knobs=leak's! Heat causes damage to electrics!
I bought a Rocket based on looks. Sold it due to constant troubleshooting, now buying the oscar.
J s what were the issues?
Dimitris C. Constant issues with pressure, flow, rate at which water made contact with puck. Sold it and bought an Oscar - making outstanding coffee again.

Thanks for the great comparison Gail! Taste wise, for espresso and latte, which do you think is better machine? Time for a blind taste test maybe?
