- It's always a treat to work in my ongoing altered book and today I made a new layout in glorious black and white. Today I am using French pages from a military notebook, roses from an 1870 edition of The Girl's Own Paper, a folio from a Welsh hymnal 1867, and a cheeky bird from a nature guide 1913. Join me as I talk about collage and mixed media techniques in adding elements and layers.

Cheryl, it is my real pleasure. I hope you make some gorgeous pages with them!
“She wished she could say, I think shall have another.” 😆 The unexpected in your beautiful work is a delight. 👏
Why thank you, Kristine. This is truly nice to hear. 😺
Thanks, I managed to print a free download of two pages. Like watching (and learning) how you make your placement decisions.
Thank you, Brinda. I hope you can make some fun pages with the prints! Kelly
Your part about military papers reminded me that I have my father's air hours log book (which I would never use) from when he was in the RCAF during WW2. As ever, wonderful tutorial, Kelly. Thoroughly enjoyed it with my lunch.
Hey hey! Now, are you sure you can't use that log book? How about if you put it in a pocket in a journal? Or even sewed it is as a kind of signature in a journal?
@@BookandPaperArts I'm sure I can't.🙂❤It's way too sentimental. He filled that book training to go overseas and fight Nazis. Especially now, I couldn't do it. 🇨🇦
@@CatherineSunnysideJournalsI think I’d make photocopies of the pages and use those!
Looks gorgeous 😊
Thanks bunches, Heather. 🌻🌻🌷🌷🌼🌼
Very beautiful!

Wow!! I love this page layout ❤❤ Thank you for sharing 😊😊❤
Thank you so much, Virginia.
Another beautiful piece! I think I have a book to use for this! That soldier's book is fascinating. Thank you for continuing to share with us.
Thanks for this, Sue. A new layout next week!
Kelly, this is gorgeous! I especially love the black and white roses!
I have a thing for black and white florals. They are so dramatic.
Thank you for the printable!
You are very welcome, Sepha ! I hoe you make something gorgeous. Kelly
Thank you for the hymn page! It sent me down a whole rabbit trail of translating it 😊 Do you speak Welsh? It's a lovely language. Words add so much to a layout! Thx for sharing
Hey Kelley-what a lovely book! I noticed when you indicated that you use matte medium (5:42), you held up a jar of heavy matte gel. In most of your other collage/journal/books you have used just regular matte medium. What made you choose heavy gel for this particular project?
Love love love all your videos!!!
Hi Myra. Sit down for the it, the reason. It is simply that it was on sale! I like the medium medium but dang, that stuff is pricey so when I saw this jar on offer for a lot less I just thought: I'.. MAKE it work. 😺
@@BookandPaperArtsHaha! Who doesn't love a bargain! Thanks for your reply !
The last booklet with stamps and signatures, is a very old savings book, but if it is not cloturé you can maybe still get back the money that there is on it, certainly a real small fortune now! lol😅😂
A very nice art book, and beautiful page.
Whoa !
Love your work, please how to get the free printables

Very nice, but I was disappointed you used the soldier's book. I bet his family would love to have that piece of their history.
Perhaps Melanie, but if that is true they wouldn't have let it go. Also, I have zero ways of tracking down his family. Thanks for stopping by!🌻🌷🌼Kelly
@@BookandPaperArts That's not always the case. Sometimes families lose things when people pass on. In my case, everything I had was stolen so I know longer have some very precious pictures of my late dad. You can always post on any genealogy site with images of the book. I'm sorry to disagree with you. Your journal is lovely so it's nothing to do with your art. I just always feel sick when I see important historical or genealogical documents used this way.
@melaniecarver5719 the materials she uses are the basis for the beauty of the art.
@@suelutz5364 Thank you for these lovely words, Sue. 🌻🌻🌷🌷🌼🌼
@@BookandPaperArts 😍
What a shame to cut up that beautiful plate of Samson
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I take exception to using the word “shame.” We all have our own comfort levels for how we repurpose materials. Was it your intention to shame Kelly or did I misunderstand?
Well, perhaps but I wasn't going to frame it or keep in a drawer unseen or sell it and I bought it from a book with no covers that had been on the mark down shelf in the bookstore for months. Now it can be incorporated into another piece that will be loved and seen and it will have a new life.
@@sandybe11 Hi Sandy. Perhaps it was not meant that way, you know, not personally, but thank you for being so nice for me! Actually, I get feedback like this from time to time. I could understand in some cases but in most I am rescuing pieces that were about to get pulped otherwise. I did have a librarian tell me that I was going to book hell, once. Where you were then? I could have used you. 😺😺
@@BookandPaperArtsI belonged to a Facebook page for a while that thought even turning down a book page corner was worthy of being tarred and feathered. People can be so silly and rude sometimes.
First.
