What an awesome piece of Rock n Roll! I remember going to the Rush show where Max Webster opened for them, and when this song came on, Max started playing it, and outa nowhere comes Geddy strummin' and singin"! the whole audience went NUTS......... Good times!!! :-)
Love his rolling fills, or whatever you’d call it. On Anagram (for Mongo) at around 3:25 after the last verse, Neil throws down a kickass fill. I clipped 10 seconds of it and it’s now my ringtone.
Remember seeing this live when he opened for Rush on their moving pictures tour in Chicago. Freaking Amazing. Geddy came out in a mask and started singing. Blew everyone away
*@Calvin Washburn* ```````````````````````````````` Yes, it is true but, get your *words spacing, english grammar* and overall writing in English under control before you post another comment. English 101 Refresher would be highly recommended.
Well,!!!!,! First heard Max Webster support rush back in78-79- I never knew that this collaborative track existed. I remember that Rush introduced Max very warmly and I was blown away by them, so much so to that I bought ( or thought I had bought) everything they ever did thereafter... Max Webster is a great Canadian band that o go back to on a regular basis - the music takes me back to my youth, and the music never seems to age, unlike me. Whoever found this and posted it, a huge thanks , you have made my day..🤘😎😀
I sat on the couch in front of the console with Neal on the other side of the glass. Neal started a drum fill, his Toms were panned from left to center and Gary's toms were panned from center to right. I'll never forget it it. We also got to do BG vocals on "Check"
+Joseph Primeau That's so cool. Rush with Max Webster was the 1st concert my late father & I both attended, & I still listen to, & appreciate, both bands, music, today! Neil, to me, is, by far, the best drummer in the world, & Gary was very, underrated (& is very talented). Battle Scar is the true, culmination, of these talents (& it shows)!
I was even lucky enough to see Max Webster on New Year's Eve 1980, and Geddy Lee made a special appearance for Battle Scar! The crowd went crazy! (Alex and Neil were vacationing in Jamaica.)
Man, you said it! I too had the old Krispy Kream sized Pioneer phones rockin' back then on dad's big receiver. I wore this song OUT!! Def deserves radio play today... Doesn't get any better.
The first time I saw Rush, Max Webster was the opening act. For this song, Geddy Lee came out wearing a Richard Nixon mask. It was a great performance, and still rocks after 25 plus years. Thanks for posting it. If there is a live video, I would love to see it.
Back in the summer of 80, my friend's older brother played this song for us at full blast on his parents new stereo when they were at work one afternoon. It blew our minds. 40 years later and it still has that same powerful effect.
Omg I'll never forget the night at Maple leaf gardens in Toronto on New Years eve in 80 or 81 and Max Webster was playing and Geddy lee came out and they did this song,it was fucking epic!....You had to be there to know what I mean.
Caught the last half of this song on 101.1 Vancouver today, & thought, "That sounds like Geddy." And lo, here is another RUSH, (w/friends) gem from THE 80s that's new to me! What a riot! The love never ends!
I saw Rush 2 times in one week in Chicago during the Moving Pictures tour...Max Webster opened the show for Rush. My friend John and I wanted to see RUSH really bad, and he said that he had a friend who had a friend that worked at Ticketron and that she "might" be able to get us good tickets..Well, I didn't want to take any chances so I bought 2 for the upper mezzanine(not great but ok seats). She pulled through in a BIG WAY...Main Floor, 5th row center...We got GREAT pics with my man's 35mm
Not quite "playing live together" but on the same tour :) Rush 'Hemispheres' UK tour 1979. I'd never heard of Max Webster until that night. What an eye (and ear) opener.
I was at the Hemispheres show in Birmingham UK leg of the tour and witnessed Rush and Max Webster warm up jam in the afternoon before the show. I was only a school kid of 15 at the time "way too long ago", as the man himself would say
Saw them together at market square arena in late 70’s early eighties !! Sounded just like this . When Getty ‘s voice could break all the car windows in the parking lot!!!!!!!!!!!
I read earlier in the comments that this was produced by Terry Brown? Because it sure sounds like it!! The first time I heard this song, I immediately thought, "This is Permanent Waves-era...the guitar/bass tones, Geddy's voice, the way Neil's drums are tuned and mixed are total "Permanent Waves"...INCREDIBLE! Also people are pointing out the Ged's Ric tone and the Peart fill, etc. But what actually first struck me about the song as a whole was Alex's rhythm guitar tone...that ballsy chunk!
thank you! so very much rickyon! i just heard this song at work today. i had completly forgot about max webster! the shame! thank you for making me remember! wonderfull memories! excellent slide show! peace!
saw Rush and Max Webster in Moncton NB back in the 80’s .. sadly it was the last time Rush would play Moncton .. saw Rush a few times prior to the last concert..first time it was Nazareth w/special guest Rush back in the 70’s .. a year or two later it was Rush w/special guest Nazareth .. i’d love to go back in time and and re live those awesome shows .. long live Rush ✌️👍🏻🇨🇦❤️
Let’s not forget the kickass tunes from Triumph. Ric Emmot and the band were seen with Max all the time in my day. Just strolling along in T.O. any given day.
Saw Max about 17 times. Gave my 3D glasses to Kim at the KEE in Bala. Still don't get why they aren't bigger than the Beatles. Or at least the Monkeys.
AHHH...and yet, let us not forget, also produced by non other than Terry Brown(Broon). Giving it that all so familiar 'RUSH' feel! So many people don't realize how close these guys were, especially on tour. I mean, Neil would literally sit behind McCracken's kit while Max was opening and play the last few songs from Webster (which he would later do with Primus)just to warm up! Awesome stuff! P.S. - 1:35 - :37 CLASSIC GEDDY!! \m/ \m/
Au contraire, mon ami! Produced by Jack Richardson…Engineered by Dave Green, if I remember correctly. Recorded at Phase One in Toronto (according to the liner notes, anyway). The entire “Universal Juveniles” album is gold, IMHO and “Blue River Liquor Shine” is my fave.
@@wignewton9419 You are absolutely right i stand corrected from 12 years ago LOL! Definitely at Phase One although it was in Scarsborough. That part I remember and also that both bands were set up, each on different sides of the room and Jack was in between them conducting literally with a baton!😆 It was also there that Dubois & Peart collaborated for the lyrics of Tom Sawyer (of course originally Louis the Warrior!) Still can't believe that comment was over 12 years ago!🤯😝
I'm guessing that was the New years eve concert in toronto at the old Maple Leaf Gardens!? I was there too, and yes, what a show!! Two of my fave bands on the same stage, on the same bill, it couldnt got any better than that.
What an awesome piece of Rock n Roll! I remember going to the Rush show where Max Webster opened for them, and when this song came on, Max started playing it, and outa nowhere comes Geddy strummin' and singin"! the whole audience went NUTS......... Good times!!! :-)
ugh, what i would have given to be there. . .
I saw that tour too, Houston Tx 80, 81 maybe 🤔 those were the days…
Same Rochester War Memorial Aud. I was late 12 yesterday old.
Montreal forum 1980 unbelievable
I saw them in Fort Worth in 1981, my first concert ever, what a start to my concert journey. Saw RUSH 14 times before Neil passed.
This is so underrated. It’s heavy, melodic, catchy and classic. That’s a recipe for AWESOMENESS 🤘🤘🤘
i haven't heard this for 40 years. the internet is awesome!
That whole Max Webster album is so great...every song is a banger
Geddy’s voice is so freaking awesome here! Belting it out!!
@2:31 God Bless Neil Peart.
Love his rolling fills, or whatever you’d call it. On Anagram (for Mongo) at around 3:25 after the last verse, Neil throws down a kickass fill. I clipped 10 seconds of it and it’s now my ringtone.
Max Webster and Rush, What a collab. There's no mistaking Neil's drumming on this song. A rare classic.
Coulnd't have said it better myself!
You can hear Alex and geddy
Remember seeing this live when he opened for Rush on their moving pictures tour in Chicago. Freaking Amazing. Geddy came out in a mask and started singing. Blew everyone away
Saw that show in Chicago! Don't why I just looked this up. I have the Max webster cd somewhere!
there is nobody by the name 'max webster' in the band (there is no "he").
Soooo heavy… Some kids in Seattle must've heard this and formed Soundgarden the next day...
Hahaha! Think you're right.
Indeed, although I gotta say, it makes "Going Hungry" by Temple of the Dog somewhat seem tame in comparison!
Well, they had to be 3,4,4,and 2 years old.lol
It's just a beautiful song thank you and Rush Max Webster is so beautiful
Can't get enough of this song...grew up on these bands back in the late 70's
We were so lucky to see this live. Truly anamazing moment.
Kim Mitchell, one of thee most underated gutarist of all time!
Kim Mitchell is one of the all time best! Canada rocks, from USA❗️
I treasure all my Max, Kim, and RUSH, cd's!
Not so here!
Man this is SICK!!! First time hearing it! Geddy's screaming is awesome
I wish I could hear this again for the first time. Lucky you 🙂
Nice Pick !!!
Epic! I really miss this kind of music!
Two of the Greatest CANADIAN bands ever,
true that!btw Kim Mitchell is a great guitar player that is way under rated!: )\m/

been a hardcore RUSH fan since '88, never heard most of these songs on this compilation. silly me. they rule!!
Have you ever listened to thier first album
@@stukawarner4051 First album from Rush? Of course!
Pretty sure it’s the only song they did together
it's considered to be a max webster song and is not on any rush album.
VERY POWERFUL!!! Love this song.

Best collab ever! I actually saw them when they were touring together in Sweden WAY back in the day, I even went backstage. Good times!
I sat on the couch in front of the console with Neal on the other side of the glass. Neal started a drum fill, his Toms were panned from left to center and Gary's toms were panned from center to right. I'll never forget it it. We also got to do BG vocals on "Check"
+Joseph Primeau I always wondered how you'd pan dual drummers
+Joseph Primeau That's so cool. Rush with Max Webster was the 1st concert my late father & I both attended, & I still listen to, & appreciate, both bands, music, today! Neil, to me, is, by far, the best drummer in the world, & Gary was very, underrated (& is very talented). Battle Scar is the true, culmination, of these talents (& it shows)!
best example of rock and roll music ever

I grew up in Toronto in the 60's, then getting to see Rush, then Max Webster, then together. Wow!
AWESOME! The moment I found out that these two did a song together I knew just HAD to find it!
The first time I saw Rush, Max Webster was the opening act. For this song, Geddy Lee came out wearing a Richard Nixon mask. It was a great performance, and still rocks after 25 plus years. Thanks for posting it. If there is a live video, I would love to see it.
That Geddy scream..THAT'S ROCK!
Back in the summer of 80, my friend's older brother played this song for us at full blast on his parents new stereo when they were at work one afternoon. It blew our minds. 40 years later and it still has that same powerful effect.
Ged is really wailing Fly By Night-style on here. Good find
Have you heard their first album he wails not like any other time
@Stuka Warner By this time, he would be wailing far less. So this vocal is pretty significant.
Wow.... Takin me back to the 80's with real Rock n' Roll. Very cool indeed. Brought back great memories. Even remember the album cover
That droning riff 2:40 into the solo slays me every time. Definitely Alex's Gibson tone on the left channel. Love it!
EXCELLENT BAND AND WISE CHOICE OF SONGS THANKYOU 🎵 KIM.
Omg I'll never forget the night at Maple leaf gardens in Toronto on New Years eve in 80 or 81 and Max Webster was playing and Geddy lee came out and they did this song,it was fucking epic!....You had to be there to know what I mean.

Just imagine what a band they would have made if they joined up!!!
Two legendary singers would have clashed unfortunately
How cool would it have been to see them playing live together?
Not quite "playing live together" but on the same tour :) Rush 'Hemispheres' UK tour 1979. I'd never heard of Max Webster until that night. What an eye (and ear) opener.
Dec 1979 Toronto-Massey Hall, Hemispheres tour, known about MW for about 3 years, `Hangover' introduced many of us to MW
I was at the Hemispheres show in Birmingham UK leg of the tour and witnessed Rush and Max Webster warm up jam in the afternoon before the show. I was only a school kid of 15 at the time
"way too long ago", as the man himself would say
Konichi Wawa concert ever 1982. Rush Moving Pictures. Max Webster opened! Life changing would be an understatement!
It was amazing
Não sabia destas gravações....obrigado!
Sapucaia do Sul, RS, Brasil.
This is a very cool song, I remember hearing this a lot on the radio when it first came out, Geddy sounds cool and Neils drums are awesome as ever.
kicks ass , first time I heard this , ran out and bought it , still got it ...these song crawls up my spine
Saw them together at market square arena in late 70’s early eighties !! Sounded just like this . When Getty ‘s voice could break all the car windows in the parking lot!!!!!!!!!!!
ME TOO!! The best Rush concert I went to, and that's saying a LOT! I totally agree with you.
First heard this on 96Rock WKLS Atlanta way back years ago, connected cable to the home stereo and jammed lol
Great pics ! Love this song for thousand years !!
freakin awesome
Reminds me of a collaboration between two Canadian bands.
Max Webster and Rush wrote a sort of National Anthem titled "Battlescar".
I read earlier in the comments that this was produced by Terry Brown? Because it sure sounds like it!! wow the memories this tune invokes!
Saw Max about 17 times. Gave my 3D glasses to Kim at the KEE in Bala. Still don't get why they aren't bigger than the Beatles. Or at least the Monkeys.
Saw them support Rush in Glasgow 1979 and they were excellent. Remember when this single came out in 1980(??) but then they disappeared.
1979 SLC theatre Cornwall, Max Webster touring colleges and unis for their 'A Million Vacations' album. Great show.
Sounds like it could be off Caress of Steel. Haven't heard this is a long time. Here is a version from 2018 I just saw.
A top notch Canadian tune.
One of my favorite songs
Wow, just..wow.

Incredible song and great photos. Thank you so much for posting.
I love this song!!
One does not simply turn this song up to 11. One turns it up to 11,000.
I cant get this fucking smile off my face! I saw this in Detroit with Geddy wearing a pig mask ! I will never forget that ever !
Holy shit, a signed photo from the cover of High Class in borrowed shoes! Awesome.
one of my all time favorites!

I saw 'em April 16 1981 in Memphis
Thank the Lord above for the Canadian music scene.
Great montage once again! This song is just amazing ! These 2 voices are powerful !
I was there as an assistant
Joseph, would you mind if I ask you some questions about the session?
I like this version best.
