A great achievement considering the conditions going up to Newcastle. I enjoyed both videos.

Thanks Phillip. It was a long day. I considered going back at the halfway mark, but ended up going on because the bar at Newcastle was always going to be safer than the bar at Swansea.

@@Cruising_Pamela_B Never been over the bar at Newcastle but the bar at Swansea in a strong N/E could be a bit hairy. I hope to meet you when I join in with the Sydney Raid group after I build a Goat Island Skiff. I chose it for its simplicity. I don't want to spend another 5 yrs building a boat. If you search Mad Hatter Sailing you can see my last build and current boat. It goes on a trailer but not really a raid boat.

Wow I could see this little vessel becoming a big hit on youtube with those amazing outer reaches using the selfie stick. Also i like the way you pointed out the coastline and various places. If you could go around Australia in that making a production-quality video it would become seriously watched I think because of the boat.

I actually bought the boat with the idea of retracing my grandfathers steps. He worked on coastal steamers and tugs from around 1912 to the 1930’s and travelled up all the northern rivers - Manning, Macleay, Clarence Richmond etc. But it will probably have to wait until I retire.

Hi Mark, how does the Paradox go in big seas? I heard a story from a bloke in Perth who got into trouble trying to go to weather in 2 metre seas

Hi Jason. No problems at all. Don’t know whether you saw the previous video to this one on the trip up to Newcastle the day before but it shows a 9 hour beat to windward where in the second half of it most of the swell was 2m and a lot of it breaking (including half a dozen over the boat - 1 captured on film). Breeze was up to 30 knots in gusts. The boat handled it with ease and the surf into Newcastle Harbour was a revelation. I never ever thought the Paradox would plane but it did on almost every wave. There are 2 Paradox’s in Perth. I think the guy with the junk rig was the one that had difficulty, but the story is exaggerated and it was more that he extended himself and exceeded his endurance rather than the boat failing. He asked for a tow more out of prudence rather than necessity. The other guy in Perth used to routinely sail up to Shark Bay and back from Fremantle each year. From my experience the boat will take a lot more than the person sailing it.

@@Cruising_Pamela_B That's excellent thanks! I went and found your earlier video. Impressive waves that she went over with ease.
