I have a 7-string treble viol. It arrived string-less and fret-less. Turns out you're expected to know stuff when purchasing a viol. I've experimented with bridges enough to know that there's a huge variation in the way your instrument sounds and performs depending on the bridge you go with. Just for a lark I had a brass bridge made for one of my violas. To say that it makes that viola piercingly loud would be an understatement.
