Jeff Healy, born in 1966, is the guitar player. He lost his sight at 1. At 3 he started playing guitar & developed his style of playing on his lap. He was most popular in the 80's & 90's. In 2008, he died of cancer at age 41. The first movie I saw Sam Elliot in was in 1985's Mask with Cher. I recommend it. It was great to see it again. Enjoyed your reaction & commentary..
Thank you! I've added Mask to my list. That's one I've seen the guy, Rocky Dennis, but haven't seen the movie and don't know anything about the real story.
"Road House." - Peter Griffin Fun Fact: According to Kelly Lynch, whenever Bill Murray sees her sex scene with Patrick Swayze on television, he calls her husband, Mitch Glazer, to tease him about it. Roundhouse Kick Fact: According to Sam Elliott, all of the actors did their own stunts. They were all trained by Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a holder of nine black belts in nine different disciplines. Urquidez believed so much in Patrick Swayze's abilities, that he suggested Swayze become a competitive kickboxer. Music Enthusiast Fact: The band playing at the start of the movie is Cruzados. After the band disbanded, lead singer Tito Larriva formed the band Tito & Tarantula, which is the band that played at the Titty Twister in From Dusk Till Dawn (1996).
In an interview Jimmy's actor did years later, he claims the fight between him and Dalton was real. That they just went for it. He said he had no respect for Swayze because he was the dancer guy. He used an example of them filming that scene, Swayze tapping him with a kick and getting back in stance. He told Swayze that wouldn't work and to actually kick him. The next take, Swayze kicked him so hard it knocked him off his feet.
I think one thing that really elevates this film is how subtle the "warrior" trope is handled, I mean Doc tells Daulton he could end up an old cripple and he blows her off, because if he keeps fighting, it means he will one day suffer Wade's fate, you can't win forever. In many ways the film operations like a Western or Samaurai film.
I was gonna say! Reminds of the Doc Holiday and "dying in your boots" thing. I haven't watched enough Samurai stuff to know that end, but I know that honour and doing all that you can is everything.

A crazy thing about the end of this film: when I rented it, I got to the scene when the guys start firing at the car, which goes over the fence and explodes, and my Dad says "there you go, end of the film, he dies". It turns out he saw some promo version which was doing the rounds in a bar, and that's where the promo version ended. This promo was heavily pirated, and loads of people thought the film ended like this. I have since had this confirmed by a lot of people who saw said pirated version at the time and were amazed years later to see that the film continues after that!

Oh no, I actually didn't. I can't believe that. I just watched that so recently too. 😂 I think maybe after a couple movies now I can recognize him in more. I hope.

the blind guy is Jeff Heally a great Canadian blues guitarest . died in 2008 during an operation to give him sight . look uphis song , angel eyes . great video again its been years since i watched Roadhouse. ps Sam Elliott is the sexyest man alive .
My brother’s high school friend Greg Braxton (who lost his eyes to cancer as an infant) also played guitar over the top (but standing) in his group Blindman’s Bluff. Not sure why Healy plays that way, but Greg said that it was less stress on his arm (that had been broken).
Oh, interesting! Someone else mentioned that the specific guitar he was using is played that way, so in Jeff's case it wasn't because he was blind like I thought.
Another underrated Swayze film I'd recommend is the Canadian film Youngblood. I believe it came out in 85/86 and stars Swayze as well as a young Rob Lowe. It also features another young superstar in a minor role. It's fun.
I am loving this reaction! 😂😂 As soon as you said picnic, I died. I always thought her charming dress was picnicy. 🤣 I gotta finish watching. I love this movie and Patrick is so good. Miss him always. 🙂😍
The best Jeff Healey performance I ever saw was a song called See The Light, a live version on RUclips, featuring Dr. John Marcus Miller on keys. It was on a show called Night Music from 1988. Definitely worth your time.
This movie is a bizarre animal. It's obviously a "bad movie," it's about *kung-fu cowboy bouncers!* The central conceit is completely preposterous... but it's so entertaining! It's not camp, or a spoof or anything... there's is a self-awareness to it, but it never winks at the audience... everyone in the cast plays it straight and gives a sincere performance as actual people living in this weird universe... For a "bad movie" though, it is so well made, top to bottom. Like the script is the best script about cowboy kung-fu bouncers that could possibly be written. And it turns out to be surprisingly deep and sincere to a lot of the core beliefs of martial arts philosophy. And then they got Sam Elliot and The Jeff Healy Band and they just made the best kung-fu cowboy bouncer movie they could and actually made a *good* "bad-movie." In retrospect, it's no more ridiculous than the assassin's hotel in John Wick, and these days establishing a kung-fu cowboy world would just be called "universe building" but back then and over the years, it got a lot of skewering for being an SNL-sketch-level concept. The thing is, as those years go by, it just keeps getting more popular, and not just for "so bad it's good" 80's cheese value.
I love that you are mostly focusing on older gems from the 80’s and early 90’s. One I would love to draw your attention to is ”White Nights” from 1985. It is available used on DVD, but it’s not widely known, so you might have to look for it. However, it is a must-see movie starring Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gregory Hines. It has a great soundtrack too (featuring Phil Collins & Lionel Richie). I won’t give you any spoilers about the plot, but please do check it out!
Fight choreography by Benny "The Jet" Urquidez... undefeated kickboxing champ and an action star.. he has 2 legendary fight scenes with Jackie Chan in "Wheels on Meals" and "Dragons Forever", 2 classic 80s Hong Kong films.
one of the greats!also like the unintentional reference of sam elliot and how you didnt like him dying, like sams character in big lebowski saying the same thing about donny haha!
What I've always really liked is that Dalton isn't what you expect, especially from an 80s action star. The scene when he first arrives at the Double Deuce and just watches all of the mayhem around him is a real surprise because you expect him to jump right in and show everyone what he was capable of. Instead, he's calm, patient and tries to avoid unnecessary violence, which makes the movie stand out from other 80s action movies. BTW, not an action movie but also starring Swayze is 1990's Ghost. It's a really good movie and one that you may've skipped because it's a love story, but it also has supernatural elements, comedy and drama. It was nominated for Best Picture and Whoopi Goldberg won Best Supporting Actress for it. If you could handle and like Dirty Dancing, you should like it, too.
Totally agree about Dalton. Such a great character. Ghost seems like a must soon to be honest. There are a couple Swayze movies I need to watch, but Ghost will be sooner than later. Thanks for the recommendation.
He's seen it all before nothing surprises him. and although in the end it becomes personal he is STILL not surprised or afraid. it was interesting that he was there to subdue the trouble, & they kept it at that, it wasnt about protecting the towns folk (which is what usually happens from the beginning) it's only when Bradly makes trouble over lapping Dolton's job that things change
Fun fact: Red Webster, or Eugene “Red” West, was known for being a close confidant and bodyguard for rock and roll singer Elvis Presley. Upon his firing, West wrote the controversial book, Elvis: What Happened?, in which he exposed the singer's dangerous drug dependence in an attempt to save him.
The band playing at the club Dalton was working at in the beginning is Tito Larriva/Tito and Tarantula. You can hear some of their stuff in Desperado. Also, the blind guitar player was played by Jeff Healey. Awesome guitarist but has since sadly died.
We quote this movie constantly( and the Breakfast Club) at work for its LOADED with some of the best one liners. So many .. I can’t pick which is my favorite. So glad you reacted to this movie 👏
There are several ties to the music world in this movie. Red was Elvis Presley's cousin and a member of his entourage the famous Memphis mafia. John Doe from the punk band X plays Wesley's nephew the bartender that was dipping into the till. Doe was also in Boogie nights. Jeff Healy was a popular blues act in the 80's.
I remember watching this alot on VHS as a kid my dad was cool about it my mom didn't approve of that it's insane how she always happened to walk in during the bar lap dance scene!🤣
They guy that killed Wade (the guy with the blade in his boot) is Anthony DeLongis. He's a master swordsman who has appeared in Masters of the Universe, The Sword and the Sorcerer and a number of B movies.
1. This was my first Patrick Swazye movie and I've seen as many of his other films as I could. RIP Pat😇 2. He started doing ballet but injured his knee so he took up acting. Ghost, The Outsiders, Dirty Dancing and Red Dawn would be good starts for more of him. 3. Who doesn't love Sam Elliot? 4. This didn't get the love it deserved. It has now become classic. 5. This holds the claimed title "The best bad movie ever. I disagree. I love it.😁
It's so weird that you've missed so many great movies whilst knowing so much about certain aspects of film, but hey, I dig it! I always hated Road House until I rewatched it recently for my podcast and realised how deliciously cheesy it was. Could not stop laughing. One of my life ambitions is to somehow see the Off-Broadway production of Road House, in which Dalton is played by Taimak, star of The Last Dragon, in a blond mullet. Sam Elliot is great in "Mask", with Cher, and a lot of people like "Shakedown", in which he co-stars with Peter Weller from Robocop. I used to enjoy him in "Fatal Beauty", in which he's sidekick to Whoopi Goldberg, but a recent revisit did it no favours...
Oh awesome, glad you dug it now rewatching it! I get what you mean though about me not seeing these but knowing film. I've been a horror movie reviewer for like 9 years and love film in general but I kinda found my niche in low budget b-movies. Which means, I'm almost guaranteed to love everything on this channel because I can see competent filmmaking. 😂 Mask is one I need to watch for sure and the others you mentioned I also haven't seen but Mask is on my list to check out at some point. Thank you! Btw, what's your podcast and what do you get up to? Is it all about cheesy movies?
@@JayBondReacts My podcast is actually in Spanish, so I dunno how useful it would be to you, but I have another, non-film related channel I've just started up in English, plus I am starting up an English-language movie podcast soon with a pretty famous screenwriter. He hasn't sworn me to secrecy, but I daren't say anything in case it falls through! I've been dying to do something film-related in English for a long time, but it's never seemed to come to fruition. As for the cheesy stuff, I help organise a "bad film" festival here in Madrid called Cutrecon, in which we show entertainingly bad movies and invite the filmmakers over. We've had guests such as Matt Hannon (Samurai Cop), Greg Sestero (Mark from The Room), the Troll 2 team and, and this blew my mind when we pulled it off, Steven de Souza. I have just received my press pass for Sitges and will be covering the Festival for the 7th year running. You would LOVE it.
@@ToniMcGinty No way, that sounds like a blast. See, now those movies I have seen. 😂 Stiges seems to be one of the big ones for horror, so that's awesome. Love to hear that you have your own thing going in Spanish! Hope your new English one works out! Have fun at Stiges!!
@@JayBondReacts I will do, thanks! It's always exhausting, but you meet some huge names (M Night Shyamalan congratulated me on a question I asked him, Susan Sarandon said I asked her the best question she's ever been asked, Nic Cage was nice, Christopher Walken was endearingly weird, Dolph Lundgren was a gem, I was somewhat knighted and I kind of got into an argument with Bruce Campbell) and, of course, you see loads of films. They usually programme about 250 in 10 days, so getting your schedule organised is like playing Tetris, but it's fantastic when it works out!
So glad you did this! I finally watched it a couple years ago and like you I thought it was just some raunchy 80’s party movie. Had no idea how bat shit crazy it is!
This is the best "bad" movie ever. I remember when it first came out and I didn't even plan on seeing it because I hated Dirty Dancing so much. I was like, "Oh the ugly dude with the big nose who was in that movie with the ugly chick with the big nose is in this movie? No thanks". It was the 80s I was a teenager what the hell you want from me? Anyway I ended up going to see it and was savagely entertained. The entire premise is so stupid but its just so beautifully executed you can't help but love it. Some people call it a guilty pleasure. I disagree. It's just a pleasure, there is no reason to ever feel guilt over enjoying something so awesome.
Another great Swayze film in the total opposite direction is To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. Also stars Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo.
Love this movie! Great reaction! Western without horses! Nice nod to They Live. ".....AND I'M ALL OUT OF BUBBLE GUM!!!!" Absolutely love your channel!!!!!
I'm sorry Jay but Dalton did the throat rip before MacGruber. "I believe" MacGruber idolized Dalton and is paying homage to him. MacGruber does a "Dalton" when he rips throats out. LOL Don't get me wrong, I love MacGruber. Keep up the great reactions.
Thanks! And yeah, I know MacGruber didn't come out till like 30 years after this. 😂 Can I just say, when I read Dalton in this comment read it like that waitress. 😂
I met the guy who got his throat ripped out at Bubba fest in pigeon forge Tennessee. He said Swayze was great to work with and he actually got hurt filming the scene.
It's called Roadhouse because that's what those type of clubs next to the roads in rural areas were/are called. Its such a great movie you should watch Patrick Swayze star next to Keanu Reeves in Point Break. It's a brilliant action movie which I think you will really luv.
@@JayBondReacts oh excellent I shall go watch it. I loved ur reaction and it was nice to see someone review this movie as not seen any others react to it. So many great gems from the 80's and 90's that alot of people miss.
A movie that I will always consider a favorite thriller. Action, suspense, sexy and yet comedic at times. Glad you had a fun time too ^^ There are takeaways from this movie that I still employ in my real life ☮ (no, not the throat-ripping 😝)
Loved this reaction vid, it's the first time I'm seeing any of Roadhouse too. If you dig Swayze, I highly recommend Point Break if you haven't seen it 😃 Jeff Healey is a Canadian jazz guitarist
Just subscribed..I love your knowledge of directors, actors, cinematographers, etc. I get into that kind of stuff as well and I point it out in every movie wherever I see a connection and it used to drive my wife insane but now she does the same thing haha..you know your stuff jay, good content keep it coming!
Jay, you gotta check out "Point Break" (1991) with Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves and Gary Busey. It's by far Patrick Swayze's best movie. You'll like it a lot!
I wouldn’t say Point Break is Swayze’s best movie by far, it is one of his best ones. Sam Wheat in Ghost was a very difficult role to play for an actor, since he cannot interact with most other characters, but has to focus mainly on reactive behaviour. Most other actors that were initially considered for the role turned it down. I think Point Break is right up there with Ghost and Dirty Dancing. And City of Joy. Jay, check that one out too, it’s a lesser known Swayze one, but a very, very good.
If Chuck Norris played a similar but different character role than Patrick Swayze's in Road House, Brad Wesley and his goons are gonna be afraid of him because of who he is and what he is capable of before he was a bouncer, beating the hell of them and leaving them broken and terrified.
My ex-wife was obsessed with Patrick Swayze, so much so that we actually saw this theatrically during our honeymoon. We divorced 5 years later but I still love the movie.🤣👍
You are hilarious!! Your facial expressions and commentary are great!! I remember my parents watching this movie but not being allowed to see it, I mean I can sort of tell why. It was one I missed out on seeing too. Totally random, you weren't far off with the Dirty Dancing thing, because the song that was playing when Dalton and the Doctor slept together was literally the same song from Dirty Dancing before Johnny and Baby slept together!! Sort of random recommendation, my mom loves Sam Elliot, she had me watch Fatal Beauty with him and Whoopi Goldberg, definitely an interesting watch!
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed! Whoa, I didn't even realize it was the same song. That's fun callback. Never heard of Fatal Beauty, but I'll look into it. Thanks!
Another great Sam Elliott film is Mask with Cher. It's based on a true story and is an excellent film. Not sure if you've seen The Outsiders yet but it's a fantastic classic 80's movie. Stars Patrick, Ralph Machio, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Rob Lowe, Diane Lane and my teenage crush Matt Dillon. I hadn't seen this movie in awhile, great reaction.
I absolutely refused to watch this for the longest time. I was an 18 year old bouncer that was only 5'10" and 150 lbs so everybody assumed I must be a huge fan of this movie. And I heard that "I thought you'd be bigger" line on more than one occasion. That was 1990. I didn't watch this movie until sometime in the 2000s.
I totally get that, that would totally get under my skin. Growing up with the name Jay Bond and hearing various riffs on James Bond, I avoided nearly all of those movies (except the Pierce Brosnan ones).
My mother was externally smitten ❤with Sam Elliot, LOL! One of her favorite movies of his was Lifeguard- 1976. Please 🙏 add it to your lists. Thank you. 😊
This movie is kinda a throwback and homage to the "Dixie Mafia" movies of the 70's. You might like to check out Walking Tall, Gator, White Lightning and several more.
Yo, if you liked Kelly Lynch in this I'd highly recommend an excellent film from 1989 titled Drugstore Cowboy, also starring Matt Dillon and a young Heather Graham, it's a real wild ride.
Yes, I definitely need to see that one. I'm not sure I've seen Cher act in anything before and despite seeing the main guy in Mask a bunch, just haven't seen that one.

Nice shoutout to Dean Cundey. He really is an amazing cinematographer:) Great reaction to amazingly never boring flick:)
Happy to see someone else dig him! Thank you!
So glad you reacted to this movie 👏
dean cundey is the reason early steven Spielberg movies have that magical feel
I forgot about the "I ain't got twenty bucks!" guy. 🤣🤣🤣
4:36 That was the late Chris Latta aka the voice of Cobra Commander and Starscream.
You don’t mess with Jackie Treehorn
That is so undude
I remember watching this alot on VHS as a kid my dad was cool about it my mom didn't approve of that it's insane how she always happened to walk in during the bar lap dance scene!🤣
At this point in his career it's funny to see Terry Funk run. His knees must have been killing him.
Swayze before he was into the martial arts was dancer with the training coming first from his ballet teacher mother.
Jeff Healy is one of the best guitarists in the world. The real star in this flick.
Rip Patrick & Jeff
This is a movie more reactors need to watch. It is a guilty pleasure of both my wife and myself...love that you decided to watch it here!
Glad you two enjoy it and thanks for watching my reaction!
“Road House!” -Peter Griffin
They guy that killed Wade (the guy with the blade in his boot) is Anthony DeLongis. He's a master swordsman who has appeared in Masters of the Universe, The Sword and the Sorcerer and a number of B movies.
Oh awesome. I haven't heard the name I don't think but I'll keep an eye out!
The woman playing the nurse is his wife in real life.
No way, that's amazing!
The 80‘s were the best era, music- and moviewise. Period.
Oh what a blast from the past, and a good one! Hadn't seen it since so long, nice to watch it again along with your comments and reaction
Thank you for watching! Such a fun movie. Way different than I thought it was going to be. 😂
He’s not a murderer. He defended himself to the death.
I worked at a state licensed private security company here in Nevada. We would use Dalton's "be nice speech" in our training of new officers
Amazing. 😂
1. This was my first Patrick Swazye movie and I've seen as many of his other films as I could. RIP Pat😇
I disagree. I love it.😁
I worked on and off as a licensed private security officer for 21 years. We would use the be nice speech in our training classes.
That's amazing. 😂
Jay this one of my favorite movies of the 80’s it’s about real life as I grew up in this time period!! Loved your movie 🍿 reactions !!
Red was Elvis Presley's distant cousin and part of his entourage for years.
Yes!! Got that one on my list actually!
Chicken-dick is the greatest insult I've ever heard. 😀
Love this movie! Great reaction! Western without horses! Nice nod to They Live. ".....AND I'M ALL OUT OF BUBBLE GUM!!!!"
Absolutely love your channel!!!!!
Thank you so much!
everyone wanted studio apartments in the 80s
I met the guy who got his throat ripped out at Bubba fest in pigeon forge Tennessee. He said Swayze was great to work with and he actually got hurt filming the scene.
It's called Roadhouse because that's what those type of clubs next to the roads in rural areas were/are called. Its such a great movie you should watch Patrick Swayze star next to Keanu Reeves in Point Break. It's a brilliant action movie which I think you will really luv.
Thank you and yes, I just did a reaction for Point Break. So good!
Glad you had a fun time too ^^ There are takeaways from this movie that I still employ in my real life ☮ (no, not the throat-ripping 😝)
the blind guy is jeff healy this is the jeff Healy band
I watched this movie when i was 11 years old. Yeah!!!
Loved this reaction vid, it's the first time I'm seeing any of Roadhouse too. If you dig Swayze, I highly recommend Point Break if you haven't seen it 😃
Jeff Healey is a Canadian jazz guitarist
Thank you! Point Break has been added to the list!
Just subscribed..I love your knowledge of directors, actors, cinematographers, etc. I get into that kind of stuff as well and I point it out in every movie wherever I see a connection and it used to drive my wife insane but now she does the same thing haha..you know your stuff jay, good content keep it coming!
Thank you so much! I'm sure some see it, like your wife, as a bit irritating but it's fun! Always love the "I know that guy from somewhere" game.
Great reaction to a cool movie.and thanks for the silent night, deadly night reference.I needed that
Haha Thank you.
Jay, you gotta check out "Point Break" (1991) with Patrick Swayze, Keanu Reeves and Gary Busey. It's by far Patrick Swayze's best movie. You'll like it a lot!
Added to the list!
The blonde woman dancing on the stage in "Road House" also had a small and almost unrecognizable part in "Point Break."
Besides "Point Break" ,this is Swayze's best Movie!!!
If Chuck Norris played a similar but different character role than Patrick Swayze's in Road House, Brad Wesley and his goons are gonna be afraid of him because of who he is and what he is capable of before he was a bouncer, beating the hell of them and leaving them broken and terrified.
Dean Cundey did Mando or boba episode it was awsome hes still a BEAST
Road House: The movie that Peter Griffin likes.
I never even realised “These arms of mine” is in the love scene in this movie as well as Dirty Dancing
Jackie Treehorn and "the Stranger" from Big Lebowski
Red was originally Elvis Presley friend and bodyguard.
My ex-wife was obsessed with Patrick Swayze, so much so that we actually saw this theatrically during our honeymoon. We divorced 5 years later but I still love the movie.🤣👍
Wow. Well sorry to hear about that but glad that didn't taint this movie for you.
@@JayBondReacts nope, that was almost 30 years ago and I remarried and have a great grandson.👍
Hell yeah, love to hear it!
Since Tombstone came out I always said I want to grow up and be Sam Elliot.
My wife just laughs. I got the grey goat but that’s about it.
Thank you! I actually have added both of those to my watchlist now. Appreciate it!
@@JayBondReacts awesome!
Someone already mentioned them but Red Dawn (the original) and Point Break would fit the theme of your channel perfectly.
Thank you! I should get on Red Dawn soon-ish.
JEFF HEALY is a GUITAR GOD! FIGHT ME!
This movie is so soaked in testocerone, I went on the pill to watch it.
My mother was externally smitten ❤with Sam Elliot, LOL! One of her favorite movies of his was Lifeguard- 1976. Please 🙏 add it to your lists. Thank you. 😊
A great under appreciated action film with Sam Elliott and Peter Weller (robocop) is SHAKEDOWN
I'll have to add that to my list!
one of my favourite movie's of all time and if you like this movie the sequel Road House 2: Last Call (2006) is pretty good too
Read in Swayze's book that defore he died he was drinking a 5th of burbon and smoked two packs a day.
Loved this reaction…this movie is such a classic!
Thank you!
The guy that owns the general store, Red? His real name is Red West, he was part of Elvis Presley's Memphis Mafia.
This movie is kinda a throwback and homage to the "Dixie Mafia" movies of the 70's.
You might like to check out Walking Tall, Gator, White Lightning and several more.
Such a great movie/reaction. I was laughing the whole time 🤣
Thank you!
This was also something different for an 80s film
Yo, if you liked Kelly Lynch in this I'd highly recommend an excellent film from 1989 titled Drugstore Cowboy, also starring Matt Dillon and a young Heather Graham, it's a real wild ride.
Awesome, thanks!
The woman who plays the doctor is his wife in real life.
I was wrong. She just looks like her. Sorry for the misinformation.
You need to see Sam Elliott in Mask with Cher & Eric Stolz
Yes, I definitely need to see that one. I'm not sure I've seen Cher act in anything before and despite seeing the main guy in Mask a bunch, just haven't seen that one.
