    Watching this video brings back fond memories of the year I spent from 1992-1993 when I lived in Rotterdam when I was in the U.S Army! Was supposed to live there for 3 years but my husband got sick and we had to come back to the States.

      @@theTravellers, Gouda is a bit further by train and I want to have at least 5 hours in the point of interest, arriving at the airport 2 hours before my flight. I expect to spend in total not more than 80 EUR, so taxi is too expensive for me.

    Rotterdam is the ugliest city in The Netherlands. Five minutes at the train station is more than enough time to purchase a one-way ticket to a more charming and beautiful city such as Leiden, Delft, Dordrecht or Breda.

    • @jordi1090
      @jordi1090 4 года назад +3

      That's your opinion, I definitely don't agree. Rotterdam has a great vibe and there is lots to see and do. The only city in NL that feels like a big city, the rest of the cities look pretty much the same.
      I like the raw edge and modern architecture in Rotterdam.

    • @charlesponzi9608
      @charlesponzi9608 4 года назад

      @@jordi1090 I might feel less hostile towards the new buildings if Rotterdam was a brand new city built in Flevoland. Rotterdam, however, has a long history and tradition--something that is not reflected in the new architecture.

      @@jordi1090 Cities should reflect the history and culture of the people who live there.
      It should not be surprising that most Dutch cities look similar because they are a reflection of the local geography, history and culture.
      The nice thing about The Netherlands is that one does not have to travel very far before entering another country with its own very different and distinctive architecture and culture.
      One might argue that all modern cities look pretty much the same no matter where they are located on the globe. In our modern world, many places are all starting to look and sound the same. The clothing, food, music, entertainment, language and buildings are all merging into one. Yes, pretty damn boring.

    • @jordi1090
      @jordi1090 4 года назад +1

      @@charlesponzi9608 I see your point, but no city in the world looks like Rotterdam. So it is still unique.
      I think in Europe only Frankfurt can be compared a little bit if you look at the amount of towers in the city center.
      And at this moment old Dutch architecture is already replacing ugly buildings in Rotterdam.
      You can google "Prachtig Kralingen" or "de Kaapvaarder" as example.
      Also "Little C" is a beautiful project.
      ruclips.net/video/GMdvogyraME/видео.html

      @@theTravellers I think he misses the Rotterdam from before the Nazi bombing, I think we all do (allthough we've never seen it in real).
      After the bombing and because of the fast growing industry, people needed homes quick and cheap. So Rotterdam was full of it.
      Only recently popularity is growing fast because of some beautiful projects. That, in combination with the raw edge, makes it a very interesting city. And lots of great new projects are in planning now and some under construction already.

      @@theTravellers Venice has beautiful old buildings. Rotterdam has mostly ugly depressing modern buildings completely lacking in charm, elegance and beauty. The Germans bombed us, but our Dutch architects completely ignored and betrayed our history and culture. How I envy the citizens of Munich who had their lovely city rebuilt. These ugly new buildings in Rotterdam should have been built in the new province of Flevoland where there is not local history or culture to protect.
