Shedtune - How to fit a temperature gauge

- Fitting a temperature gauge to your scooter is a straight forward job, or it should be! In this video I show you how I fitted my new temperature gauge. I also show you what went wrong and how I fixed it. It will be the same on a Lambretta or a Vespa as this gauge fits the sensor under the spark plug.
link to the gauge I used: www.amazon.co....
As always thank YOU for taking the time to watch our little videos, please leave some feedback, give it a thumbs up and maybe subscribe, there are links below to people who help us out.
Any questions on sprinting, what it costs, what you can expect or just a general chat, feel free to message us below.

Dont get caught up putting it under the spark plug. It’s easier under a cylinder head nut. That way it’s undisturbed checking the plug and less likely to need replacing when it gets broken 😅
Never thought of that. Good call. Cheers 🍻 👍😁
@@jimsregaturntableshifijukebox yes the temp does differ depending on where you put the sensor.
@@Shedtune_Russ yeah put it on a cylinder head nut on the hot side away from the fan blowing harder on it. Pain under the sparkplug really. If it’s really accurate readings your after EGT is better.
Be careful with the 2 wires. They are Chromel/Alumel thermocouple wires in the cable and you must make sure you connect them correctly. I note your wires for the two different cable systems weren’t the same colour. The easiest way to check is the Alumel wire is magnetic. If you connect them the wrong way round you create an extra thermocouple junction and it introduces errors. So always Ch to Ch and Al to Al. The only junction between Ch and Al should be where they are attached on the sensor ring. I have a trail tech currently but I’ve bought the MB gauge which uses a 12v supply from the scooter for when my TT finally dies. Sorry for long winded explanation of Ch/Al thermocouple but I spent 40 years working instrumentation at Rolls- Royce aero engines.
Every day is a learning day. Cheers for the info 👍🍺
Had the Trailtech on my Vespa & lasted 4 years, went to put on my Serveta and like you, battery failed. I too carefully cut in half to try and change battery but in the end I binned it (the robbing Ba$tards). have been looking at that type you have now, so will order one, even if it last 3 years, I can get 3 in the space of 9 years for same price as Trailtech one, happy days
👍👍
👍😀
Hey
I have the same Thermometer..I can’t put it off..How can i do this?
It stays on unless u take the battery out. 👍
Waitaminute, doesn't that SIP speedo already have a CHT gauge? It's tiny, can it even be read while riding?
Yes it does, but as an older rider I can’t see shit lol 😂
It's the only bloody thing that does work on my SIP speedo and the only reason it's still on the lammy! As for the rest, it acts like a bingo caller on crack!
Had the same issue with those robbing Trailtech Americans. Modded an oven one (so I must be even tighter) to a KOSO 14mm sensor (5 in a pack), I couldn't find one online that went up to a high enough temperature without being connected to a battery. Does it work ok? Great vid I feel your pain.
Yeh it works well, seems accurate as well and thx 🙏 for the props 😁
When is trailtech sponsorship starting Russ 😂😂😂😂
Well I guess never now lol 😂
Hi. Has anyone managed to find a longer lead please ?
No I had to use an old lead from my trailtec and make it fit
Hi russ what phone GPS app are you using for your speed?
Just a free one for my iPhone, it’s ok but u have to pay to get all the features
It’s this one apps.apple.com/gb/app/speedometer-55-start-gps-box/id557871911
@@Shedtune_Russ thanks mate 👍
Amazon do one which is a combined rev counter and cylinder head temp gauge for £25. I found easiest way to fit temp sensor ring was over the spark plug and held in place with some silicon tubing I found on E Bay and then spark plug cap.😁
Yeh we have tried a few types. We only needed a temp gauge and I prefer the sensor under the plug as it’s a bit more accurate and faster reacting but if it works for you then happy days. 😀👍🍺
What is the optimal temperate that a Lambretta should run at?
Depends on what set you run?
What a frigging nightmare 😂
Tell me about it, should of took an hour max lol 😂
Is there a link for an extension cable 👍
I just used my old one that I already had. I think you will have too Google it to find one
Are those dirty magazines in the corner, no wonder you broke the temperature gauge 😂
You know me too well lol 😂
It's annoying when something that seems easy ends up a waste of time 🤨 I had a go at brazing something a few days ago, and after an hour all I ended up with was two extremely hot bits of metal that fell apart when I tapped it....😆
Lol yeh know what u mean 😂
It's out of order that you can't charge the battery on a £70 bit of kit without cutting it up 👎
😂😂 sorry to laugh but I thought that only happened to me
@@shedtune81 if you can't laugh at some of the daft things we do, you'd end up having a nervous breakdown 😂

Hi great vid ..Can i ask what satnav/phone cover you have and how the usb being powered?
Just a cheap iPhone cover off Amazon and it’s powered via a battery in the tool box to charge the phone as I ride from the DC out on the variatronic
@Shedtune Russ & Dom cheers mate I just had a vape sport fitted it's AC non battery but I'll use scootertronics regulator with DC out put for my sip speedo.. trying to figure out how to fit my phone with satnav
@@andytodd8136 I’ve just seen they now do a vape regulator with a dc trickle output….
Cheers for the vid, if even the fact that I now know that you can't change the battery in a trail tech...
Every day is a learning day lol 😂
@@Shedtune_Russ I will be buying cheap and cheerful too then ...
And I've just found out I didn't need the new DC trickle reg as it's powered by its own battery ffs! I should read more and think less.
