the front won't collapse any time soon, people have been talking about a collapse even before the fall of Avdiivka yet the fighting is still around 20 km from Avdiivka. Everyone was hyping up a full Russian summer offensive for Kharkov but it's yet another fight for an empty city on the border. No glory, just lives lost on both sides, it's going to go on like this for a lot longer if there isn't a peace.

When you zoom out the map, the Kharkiv "salient" is so small compared to the rest of the front, it looks like the coloring of a child who can't stay inside the lines. Yet, Ukraine's most powerful force is near that salient; confirming that Russia's goal of using this operation to simply draw thousands of AFU away from the important places was a masterstroke of tactical operations. Zelensky cannot allow Kharkiv to fall; but from a strictly military standpoint it is nowhere near as important as Kupiansk, Pokrovsk or Kramatorsk. The war is already over (was over a year ago); but AFU simply has zero ability to stop RU from taking those three if they keep their biggest force near Kharkiv (which they must). Yesterday, Zelensky rejected Lavrov's "take it or leave it" offer; when those three cities fall, he will probably be calling Lavrov directly to ask if the "take it or leave it" offer from July is still available...."

The relatively slow pace of Russian advance regulates the supply of Ukrainian targets so that a comfortable Russian advantage is maintained across the entire frontline. Mali has an ongoing civil war, in which one part of the population basically wants to submit another part. They had a path for resolution that everyone accepted, then the coup d'etat in Bamako renegated on the commitments. Russia is making a mistake in this case, getting involved in a civil war. The locals have nowhere to go, have thousands of years defending their lands and will not rest. It is not Ukraine. Russia on the other side can impose as a precondition to their help a return to agreements.

The armor issue is significant, as new production is lagging behind demand. Hence why there is repeated efforts to frame refurbishment as new production.
It also doesn't help that large amounts of those armor vehicles were stored in the open air, exposing them to decadrs of freeze-thaw cycles.
Russia is still on the offensive only one mobilization and thousands of tanks in reserve on the Ukrainian side they have had 8 waves of mobilization and are now Recruiting people from prisons and asking western nations for more weapons,tanks,planes,money etc. its simply a war of attrition and Russia is winning it
Did you see Syrsky's interview? He admitted that Russia had more of everything. In fact Russia has almost twice as many tanks as they had at the beginning of the conflict. There are trains full of T90s headed to the front.

Russia would need to cross the Dnieper for that - and that would imply a major logistic effort (there are no bridges available to the Russians at this moment and the Black Sea shores have been mined by the Ukrainians) and require the deployment of a significant number of troops. I don't think this is going to happen any time soon. The Russians will probably first continue to grind down the Ukrainian troops in the Donbass for some time before they start any operation on the other Dnieper shore.

For now (for people without economical education) everything seems to be great... salaries are growing (not enough workforce), there are a lot of jobs in industry (people who were working in automotive and other industries started to work in military industry), RUB conversion seems to be stable on the market (almost all of the trading operations with it all over the world are halted including freezed Moscow stock market + countries are refusing to pay in RUB). Big question is what will be after war... Investors and markets are gone (China and India are using Russia just as a cheap gas station - they are buying oil and gas little bit above production costs), if Russia wins and takes Ukraine, they will have to invest huge money to repair it, same if they lose. If west really started this war, it was the best investment in their history. Getting rid of one of the major geopolitical rivals without starting the world war and just for the costs of lets say 300 - 400 billion USD. I think Russia is decent fighting in Ukraine but I don't think they have the ability to be successful in Africa
