Yeah excited to see what they have coming in 2022. For right now and possibly a long time in the future, this will be the best HS marching band show ever
Great program for sure. I won't argue that in 100 lifetimes, but "...most of DCI to shame" is REALLY a stretch. That's like saying UConn Men's basketball could beat the Lakers. It's just not going to happen.
Damn, I’m actually jealous. I always wanted to be in a high school marching band that was this serious about its craft and production. Y’all were amazing, congrats!
Yeah I remember being so envious of these bands. And not being able to do anything about what school I went to because I was 15 years old. Didn't even have a job or a car yet.
Honestly, when comparing this to the version posted by the HHS Band themselves, you can REALLY see just how big this performance was. Despite everyone sounding late, light moves WAY faster than sound will in a performance like this. That's why so many parts sound late in this footage but sound perfect in the final cut. It's honestly incredible that stuff like this is possible. I'm amazed that this is a high school group. As someone going into marching band next year, this honestly inspires me to go the extra mile and really try to add something to the band when I get there. Seeing a band that takes their marching and playing THIS seriously is honestly a huge inspiration. Cheers!

i remember going to state and seeing this program.. one of the best performances i’ve ever witnessed in a marching band and they got much deserved first place.
If I'm gonna have to play this in high school then I'm definitely gonna need to learn how to get a better embochure for high notes. Highest I can go is a high d, on rare occasion.
I wouldn’t get all twisted up about range. A D is higher than most high schoolers, your director wouldn’t ask you to play above C unless he knew you could
@dylan hatton I wouldn't necessarily say a better embouchure for high notes, since I think a good centered and consistent embouchure is key to playing in all ranges. If high notes are challenging, try to compress your air more, that way the air speeds up, as well as trying to use your vowels. But, I think the most important key is keeping a consistent air flow, and keeping a good tone. Range is not the most important thing, a great tone is most of it, while using your diaphragm to blow into the horn. To keep improving your range, raise your tongue and keep it in an arch when you use the vowels eee. Also, remember to stay as relaxed as much as possible, which in turn improves your playing overall. The trumpet is a challenging instrument, and going off with how you said "if I'm gonna...play this in high school," I can assume you are a middle school student.
@@levimccoy4127 damn you can go up to a double G, so that means you can go above the g above the staff. That is actually impressive, not many young high school or middle school students could hit that unless if you are a screamer. Not even college kids, except for screamers again, can go that high. Well adult jazz musicians and maybe some of the players in dci could hit it. To get that upper range takes a lot of work, so if I were you keep up the good work.
I like military marching better. I know this is biased, since my school is military, but all the core band in my district aren't that great, and I love playing marches. The style sounds right, marching in straight lines is simple yet hard enough, and it just all fits together
This proves that marching band takes physical stamina, athleticism, as well as intelligence, and musical and artistic talent. So it’s actually better than just playing a sport

It's a process. A long process. Your first rehearsal will probably involve practicing just taking the first step. And you'll do that first step over and over and over until you do it right. Then you add more steps. Rinse and repeat. This video is what it's like at the peak of the mountain. But the only way to the top is one step at a time.
A couple things to remember: the guy playing has been practicing pretty consistently for probably 6-7 years so it’s not like he just woke up and could play like this. Secondly, this band has built a culture for years of people working hard and performing as an ensemble. Finally, to even get the show to this point they have probably had a couple months of double digit hours a week of practice on both the music and the drill. Lots of hard work to put something great on the field.
It’s fairly obvious that their school system has wonderful teachers at the elementary and middle school levels as well, so they feed into the ensemble, plus these kids have a tremendous work ethic and when you hit this level the camaraderie of the group makes you want to play better and not let your friends down by sucking out.
Long tones. Play long tones starting on g. Go up a half step and do that over and over again until you can’t do it comfortably without pressing. You don’t have to do every half step every day but time as you do it. It’s good to make good habits as you extend your range. Also try any scale type exercises such as Clarkes and any thirds.
