People who say their music has no soul or that they are too techniqal don't understand the music well enough. Because they obviously have no idea what they're talking about. This is art as its best! I'm still waiting for Culture Clash, Desert Tornado, Ohhhn Noooo, Louisville Stomp and Blues Fuckers live from their DVD. They're all so incredible and mind-blowing to watch! ♥
but after 2 minutes i have enough of it sorry. Always the same improvising shit. If you play guitar or drums then you are impressed , thats all but hearing this lomger than 2 minutes, its boring and so oldschool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time a drummer friend of mine played me Aristocrats, I was almost pissed, who are these guys that I never heard of that were smoking my musical heroes :D, and then I was hooked. All it took was one song.
Hi Andrew, remembering what Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater) said about Marco when he applied to replace Mike Portnoy after his departure in 2010. He was amazed by the level of musical joy they were having and couldn't help but smile while playing with Marco. I think this is exactly what we are experiencing with the Aristocrats.
I think their music has melodies, technical stuff, nice groove and good amount of humor, and their improvisation is so fun to watch. I enjoy this a lot.
I got to see them a couple of months ago in Berlin and they are really that good. The sheer talent and they are really there having fun on stage.. Mindblowing..
Crazy. There was talk about Mahammad and Marco starting another project before Mahammad disappeared. He loved playing with Marco though, like c'mon. Can't ask for a better drummer
Flatlands form the same concert has a lot of soul, but yeah for me the Aristocrats are more of a brain thing. They tickle my brain just the right way, which is rare enough.
Guthrie made me cry on Drive Home (Steven Wilson). Marco is just amazing and Bryan's bass sound is soooooo smooth. As for the "too technical" folk, wtf? Go listen to some C&W if you don't want to hear amazing musicians at the peak of their art.
You’re way behind the ball on these guys dude. They’ve been making great music for over a decade now. Guthrie is the guitarist other guitarist talk about.
Andrew great reaction & thx for turning me on to the Aristocrats almost 3 years ago- you owe it to yourself to watch Blues Trucker with an F- one of the wildess songs I've ever seen & one of the best drum solo as well!
Hey Andrew! The song "I want a parrot" from this same DVD has some really interesting and beautiful chordal choices. I'd love to see your opinion on it as it's often overlooked. It's written by Guthrie as well.
The theme is originally borrowed from the Norwegian composer Edvard Griegs "Hall of the mountain king" Fantastic that you promote true live music also and not only digitally "faked" music from youtubers!
I saw these guys live in a small dive bar in Philly for like $15 bucks back in 2015 or 2016... Guthrie is my brothers favorite, we were hyped it as hell about it! Great show!
If you get a chance to see them live, DO NOT pass it up. I drove to McKinney, TX from Tulsa in 2022 to see them, I recently went to McKinney last weekend to see them a second time and next month in August I will be driving to Kansas City to see them there. It’s only until you understand the recorded material that you’ll realize just how much they’re improvising on stage and it’s absolutely mind blowing to experience their chemistry as a band.
Thanks for your credits to Bryan Beller. Great bass player indeed, but a great songwriter as well. He contributed "Aristoclub", "Muddling Through" an "This is not Scrotum" to the brand new "Duck" album. On this "BOING"-show, there was also a number called "Greasy Wheel", which was originally not written for the Aristocrats, but already in 2008 for a BB-solo album called "Thanks In Advance", I guess you might like it for a further reaction video, maybe comparing one version to the other. It's funky, it's catchy, somehow angular ...
I think, the people who are calling out a lack of soul in their music, haven’t heard them live. Because I know just by listening to Guthrie’s stuff, he’s very by the book on album and he lets it all go live.
The BB Lull PJ is so sweet. Bryan B., Michael League (Snarky P.) and Misa (Band Maid), all have tremendous tone, and skill. As a bass player, these guys encourage me to do better. If I can do 0.0001% of what they do, I'll be happy!
"How do you get a better bass sound than that?" Start with a Mike Lull bass, probably a Pope onboard preamp, then stack 3 high efficiency cabinets with a separate amp head for each one? That's the rig you put together AFTER you're successful enough to hire roadies 😂
It simply doesn't get much better. This is high art in modern music at its absolue best. Its hard to believe they make Mahavishnu Orchestra sound a bit wooden....(Jean Luc Ponty and Mixhael Walden excluded - they never sounds wooden)
Every time i watch their videos, I watch it for Marco and I end up being frozen by Guthrie Govan skills even if i play drums. #1 of all times guitarist.
What the Aristocrats play is more or less music for musicians. If you play any of the instruments (I play all three), you appreciate more what they achieve with their instruments.
I love them for their first albums. Saw them several times live. Their later music has lost some soul. It’s just as virtuous but doesn’t have the spirit of e.g. the pieces on Culture Clash.
Ran into you reacting to Aristocrats about an hour ago. Now just enjoying all your Aristocrats reactions, one after the other. It's so much fun seeing someone else have their skull peeled back by these monsters. It's gotta be sorta like catching the Miles Davis Quintet in 1959 - the best players on Earth making music that didn't even have a name yet. I scrolled through your catalog of vids - didn't see any Fearless Flyers. Would love to see what you think of Nate Smith...and the rest of the band. Something like 'Running Man'...where you can't SEE Nate's foot, but you can hear it.
inspector gadget, yep :)
check! 😁👌

Most people are stupid and have a hard time understanding anything...
✋

Marco is on a whole new level. Every limb is in business for itself. His control to play polyrhythms is unbelievable. All about the practice!!
First time a drummer friend of mine played me Aristocrats, I was almost pissed, who are these guys that I never heard of that were smoking my musical heroes :D, and then I was hooked. All it took was one song.

Beautiful, virtuosity and live = art. They are speaking to each other and to the audience at the highest level via their instruments. Spectacular.
These guys are the greatest of them all!
Just saw the Aristocrats in Redding California. They were awesome.
I think their music has melodies, technical stuff, nice groove and good amount of humor, and their improvisation is so fun to watch. I enjoy this a lot.
Yup. You nailed it
I got to see them a couple of months ago in Berlin and they are really that good. The sheer talent and they are really there having fun on stage.. Mindblowing..
Yep! Good ol' Inspector Gadget! 😂
HAHA
Just a reminder that Marco Minneman did a tour with one of the most influential tech death metal bands ever, Necrophagist.
Crazy. There was talk about Mahammad and Marco starting another project before Mahammad disappeared. He loved playing with Marco though, like c'mon. Can't ask for a better drummer
Had the pleasure of seeing them last night....
Yeah, I needed to listen again as well but the second time it became immediately clear - Inspector Gadget - Haha!
Clean! Tight! Fluid!
God tier x3!
You know it! 🙌
I'm glad to have been introduced to this! It's dope!!!
Any chance of a bit of Zappa on the channel ahahahha

Favorite love show I've been to. Super talent
You need to check out the biggest drum number they do which is Blues fuckers.
OMG. Instant thumbs up after reading the video title 👍
Really, though. This is my go-to live DVD. "Flatlands" next, please 🙏
Or maybe "Blues F#@$ers" + drum solo??? ... I'm done 😅
Done a couple from this concert 🤯
Andrew great reaction & thx for turning me on to the Aristocrats almost 3 years ago- you owe it to yourself to watch Blues Trucker with an F- one of the wildess songs I've ever seen & one of the best drum solo as well!
Masterful !

This is fascinating when considering an upcoming reaction vid!
Stay tuned for more 'hall of the mountain king'
They are so together. Telepathic.
So much fun! I would love to see them perform live.
I play bass and i watch you Andrew and yes Brian Beller's tone is the stankiest it growls thru your soul 😅
Widdly twiddly widdly fusion to infinity. The world's greatest session guitarist, and man he does not fail to disappoint.
THANK YOU! 🦆
😮😍😮😍One simple comment from me: Ahhhhhh.... (and it´s a good sound)! 🙂Thanks Andrew! Cheers! /Andy
6:13 Doo bee doo bee doo Inspector Gadget. Edit: you got it. Cracking upload. Thanks.
I saw these guys live in a small dive bar in Philly for like $15 bucks back in 2015 or 2016... Guthrie is my brothers favorite, we were hyped it as hell about it! Great show!
Cool, love it.

Yup this is a must if they ever got here

This is an older song written by Guthrie Govan. There's a live version of this song on RUclips when Guthrie was a member of Asia.
✌️🤟🤘
😲

Go gadget go

going to see them later this month (July 2024)
It simply doesn't get much better. This is high art in modern music at its absolue best.
Its hard to believe they make Mahavishnu Orchestra sound a bit wooden....(Jean Luc Ponty and Mixhael Walden excluded - they never sounds wooden)
No weak links in this band. This is musicians literally putting the 'play' into playing music.
Marco minnemann on drums...fucking german ...❤😊
The pocket is crazy smh
Hall of the mountain King
No soul?? You better hear "Flatlands"
A masterpiece of music!! A suggestion of the next video it's "Changes" by "Yes". Alan White on drums. You will not dissapointed to this one.
I always liked them but I always thought Brian needed to be a little louder.
What happened to the old "bappada-boppada" intro? I miss it!
Every time i watch their videos, I watch it for Marco and I end up being frozen by Guthrie Govan skills even if i play drums. #1 of all times guitarist.
Nice shirt
What the Aristocrats play is more or less music for musicians. If you play any of the instruments (I play all three), you appreciate more what they achieve with their instruments.
How to even categorize their music? Instrumental progressive jazz blues rock?
Fucking awesome?!!!
Primus on steroids.
Does humor belong in music?! I mean, 'nuff said by Z, which is still THE hero of mine.
Lets have some love for Hellborg, Lane and Jeff Sipe - the best trio ever
I love them for their first albums. Saw them several times live. Their later music has lost some soul. It’s just as virtuous but doesn’t have the spirit of e.g. the pieces on Culture Clash.
Strange
Least pretentious, pretentious music.

Andrew you should check out the band Slift from France I believe. @slift
