Tom: thanks for your video. My 4 year-old Kenmore stopped draining. Watched your video and had Sears come out, Sears guy looks at it (does not do anything) and tells me I need at new Pump $388 installed. How about the Drain line? Need a new Pump. Said good/bye to Sears. Called out SET Appliance Service and this guy Listened to me (You) and found the Drain Line completely Blocked. Cleaned that out, Good as New!! Thanks to you Tom & "SET".

This video JUST SAVED ME tonight! Thank you thank you thank you for making this! I did everything step by step, even ordered the replacement drain motor from Amazon. Took out the drain motor, and on the paper towel, I found a shard of glass. The glass was jamming the drain motor and creating a clicking sound. This video was FANTASTIC! I should have a draining dishwasher now thanks to you!

Dude I just wanna give credit where credit is due. Your video just helped me solve a clog due to a piece of broken glass that broke a while ago. We must’ve missed a small piece and it was blocking the impeller from spinning. I heard it drop out after turning the motor counter clockwise to get it off. So without your video I wouldn’t have known how to get it off. Thank you sir. Much appreciated

This video helped me out on this Christmas Day 2022
I found that by cleaning out the hose and getting all the crap out of there It fixed the problem I didn't have to buy a new drain pump the old one worked just fine. Once I cleaned the hose out I put hot water in the bottom of the filter area and turned on the machine and let it drain out into a pot. I think you failed to follow through on the step to check out the pump motor before you replaced it if you did you probably have saved money. But never the less it was a great video and saved me time and money ..Thank you so much for showing us how to repair stuff

Hey Tom I just wanted to say thanks. Your video was the right one for my amana dishwasher. I cleaned out food from the filter then I detached the hose from the dishwasher leading to the garbage disposal and stuck a metal hanger in it and that loosed the food and then I ran hot water down the pipe until it was clear. Connected everything back and ran the dishwasher without any problems thanks so much. No puddle at the bottom of the inside of washer. Nor on the ground afterwards. Cyas.

Thanks for making this video. My kenmore elite would stop halfway through the cycle with the oversudsing alert. I hadn't put any extra detergent or the wrong detergent in. Then after the suds dissipated, there was a few inches of water remaining. So I followed your instructions. My filter wasn't clogged, the outflow wasn't blocked. So therefore I'm hoping it's number 3: replacement of the pump motor. Just ordered a new pump motor. Keeping fingers crossed. Thanks, because you've put me the closest to actually solving this issue :)

Great video on troubleshooting! Ran into this same exact issue but I would add one more step to check to ensure the pump is the issue: After removing the pump, go ahead and plug the power cable back in and press the Cancel/Drain button on the dishwasher. It so happened that the pump was indeed running fine, I just had a frozen water line as it ran against an exterior wall in my house and it can get quite cold behind your casework.

I rarely use the dishwasher. A few months ago, my Garbage Disposal stopped working, so I bought a new one and replaced it. No problem. Two days ago, we used our dishwasher and found the water was not drained at the end. Tried a couple of times, same results. Then I found this video instruction. As demonstrated, step by step, I took out the filter and cleaned it. Then took out the tube connecting to the disposal, with no obvious debris plugging the tube. I remember that in the video, Tom inserts the screwdriver into the dispenser from the connecting side, and you can see it from the top of the sink. I tried to stick my finger to the connecting side and was blocked. Well, I thought it was a special design of this new disposal that prevents backflow to the dishwasher, so I took the disposal out, set the connecting tube side upward, filled it with water, and found no flow!!! Then I drill it through that plastic part that blocked the flow from the dishwasher to the garbage disposal. After putting everything back, my dishwasher works again! Thanks Tom. The one disposal I bought is Badger 500-3 Standard Series.

    • @TomLeeman
      @TomLeeman  2 года назад

Excellent glad to hear you had a good install. All garbage disposals have that outflow blocked. It comes from the dishwasher just in case you don’t have a dishwasher so you have to remove that so that the water will flow through. Sounds like you got everything working good thanks for watching.

This video was helpful to help me diagnose my slightly different problem. My kids do the dishes and my soon dumped a giant pan of leftover rice into the sink and did NOT run the garbage disposal. So the rice was sitting in the garbage disposal and blocking the intake from the dishwasher. I changed the dishwasher filter and pulled the connecting hose from under the sink. I noticed a tiny bit of water drain out. It was suspicious that it was draining out so slow and long. It made me check and sure enough, filled with rice. All I had to do was reconnect the hose, run the garbage disposal blades for a second and then hit the drain button on the washer .. problem solved.

Great video. After reviewing my filter (different from yours) didn't appear to be clogged, I found the "Cancel" button also functions as a "Drain". I closed the door and pressed it. The remaining water was pumped out without issue so there aren't any clogs and the pump was fine. Just sure why it didn't drain as it usually does. Nonetheless, I think (and hope) I'm good for now.... Thank you.

I agree with the poster, however there is another means of fixing. If you go to "cancel drain" and all you hear is a very short run of the motor. The fix is easy and could save you a lot of money.
First remove the lower covers of the unit in order to access the working parts
Next, unplug the unit from power.
Next, look at the underneath side of the enclosure where you will find a small (2" diameter) sensor with two push-on leads and a rubber tube that delivers pressure. This unit is attached to the underside of the cleaning enclosure by a square-block receiver.
Remove by rotating it approx 90 degrees.
Next, rotate the sensor to where it is released from the square receiver hole in which it was installed. Remove rubber tube and the two electrical connectors. Take the small unit in hand and proceed to the next step.
Next, get out your volt/ohmmeter and attach to the two terminals. It should read zero
Next, BLOW on the extruding tube that was attached to the rubber tube that was connected to the pump area. It should read below 10 ohms. It will probably read 70-250 ohms as it is worn out and the microswitch inside has crystalized or arced. No worries...proceed to the next step
Next, Clear out the red sealing glue from the LOWER hole and using a small screwdriver, adjust to where you have minimum ohms resistance. No more than a 1/2 turn in most cases.
Next, reinstall and hopefully enjoy the unit working properly.

we have the same problem and i replaced the pump but the outflo is not very good still so i think i need to clean out the discharge hose like you did here. question, should there be any standing water in the diswasher (aside from the little amount thats in the fliter housing) after a complete cycle? we are still not draining out all the water and im pretty sure its should all drain out. when i look into the sink drain while the DW is suppossed to be draining it still just trickles out. thanks for any input.

@@TomLeeman turns out the culprit was some glass shards bouncing around the 1st discharge hose that connects to the pump. once i got that cleared out, she was working like a champ. initially had replaced the pump and good thing we did since there were a few missing fins. now at the end of a cycle there is no standing water in the tub. we wondered for the longest time what the "popcorn" sound was that would rear its head on occasion and now we know exactly what it was. thanks again for posting this vid as well as your input Tom!! cheers!
