Despite it being so simple, I've always wondered how I wasn't able to capture the way John plays it in the recording, with all those heavy strumming in the bass notes. Now that you've shown us how it's done, it ALL makes sense now.
@@matcoffidis1135 It also sounds really close to the original! I also couldn't get the C7 the way I wanted it like how John played it, but the manner shown in this video makes so much sense. Hell yeah, you even covered the shirt from the rehearsal footage! Some great jangly J160e sounds in this one. Not the prettiest sound, but so distinct and it fits in the mix so well
As for your performance, the same perfect level as always, and as for the guitar, what a beautiful thing, a truly master piece. Thanks and greetings from Brasil.
One of my fav. songs from the later day Beatles: Paul's beautiful vocals, the lyrics of encouragementand just the good vibe of the song. John's harmony is just perfect...❤
Your channel beautifully showcases the cool, melodic and effective guitar playing behind many Beatles tracks, often buried in the mix. Last week, I saw a cover band and had good sight on "George Harrison", that guy still kills it 60 years after they started out.
Too cool! I always found it so weird watching the Hey Jude music video and seeing John playing what you played on acoustic guitar on his casino. Before I knew much about guitars, I thought thats what the casino sounded like lol.
Legendary job Sam! Was really cool hearing the guitars, especially George’s lead guitar. It’s a real shame Paul didn’t let George play more lead on the song cause I really enjoyed his parts on the song.
Love this--I learned it sans capo and it never sounded quite right, so I'm gonna try it your way. Such an eccentric strumming pattern by Lennon. He was a total savant. Did a lot of stuff that makes no logical sense but works incredibly well.

@@sampopkin Something about it just always turned me off, but I guess sometimes you can appreciate something more when you get a look behind the curtain
Hi Sam, you still Score ! For your future string test on the j-160e (well you likely already know it ) keep in mind that nikel plated string dint exist before august 1970 before it was pure nickel or monel (mona steel) they also say that hex core dint exist before that time but i found an add for ex core Mapes acoustig strings in the gretsch catalog of 1958. Also if your tempted to try monels the Martin retro monel are quite similar to my old gibson mona steel.
is there a spot in the rehearsal footage where you can see the neck of john’s guitar? i get that it sounds like open strings (and therefore a capo), but it’s odd that he’d play it that way on the record, but without a capo on the broadcast video.
Yes he did use the J160 without capo for the broadcast. The official recording was two days later at a totally different studio and he played very differently
Ah yeah well that’s a totally different thing altogether Also it’s possible that John uptuned his acoustic a half step so he could play F as an open chord too. It had to be that or capo because we hear that B7 open shape he plays on the recording
Sweet cover! It's shame that Paul had to put so much restriction on George's playing. Guitar really isn't the main focus of the song, but that doesn't really matter, since the song is so damned enjoyable to sing along to!
Holy shit that is the closest to the original! By the way if you have the chance try create a full band cover of that fun jam the Beatles played before the actual song on the music video :)
Hi Sam! I've got a question, I noticed this cover uses flatwound strings on the acoustic guitar and it got me thinking about what guitars the Beatles would have used flatwounds on. This song was released in the white album sessions, so I wonder if other songs with acoustic guitar from that era like Blackbird have flatwounds too.
Nice... What are those next two or three chords after the A flat..... Don't know if you did Honey pie yet.... Love to know those chords.... Anyways well done as always

J-160e, My beloved! Speaking of which, have you noticed any considerable volume drop (Acoustically) with the Pyramid Electric guitar strings, as opposed to standard acoustic guitar strings?

In particular, I didn't even think to play this song with the capo on the first fret. That was a "why didn't I think of that?" moment for me.
