R.O. Lewis I agree it is certainly a nice gesture. Personally, I do like to try to play the stuff that I will be playing with it. Not saying she isn't;)
I think it's because the blues brings out the best in a guitar like a strat and a tele, especially for the clean sound which is what matters. It's a musical style that relies heavily on technique, like vibrato, bends, chords. It's very complete, and hence you can get a really good feel of how the guitar resonates and see if the fretboard is for you or not. Other genres are mostly power chords, or lots of rapid notes and chords like jazz. Also blues requires the thumb over neck technique, and you'll see if the fretboard is too big or small for you. Just my opinion. If I try out an acoustic guitar I mostly play fingerstyle, and open chords. More or less the same with jazz guitars.
Robert Fennis Because you can rip off a few licks to get a feel for the guitar. Lets see some shredder plug straight in to a mass produced amp no warm up and start wanking his bullshit. Nobody wants to hear that. Personally id be plugged inot anything but that hot rod deluxe. Pentatonic licks are just standard. Are you somebody that think s theres no skill in playing the blues?

PIlotrcm If you haven't heard yet, recent videos have been uploaded showing that Brittney Spears is a great singer. According to research, she was told by the industry to tone down her vocals to fit pop music. So, that analogy wasn't good. I think the point the OP is making is that a lot of the people criticising these pro musicians playing are people who don't have much to show their own playing. They can say what they want about the pro players but for all we know the critics aren't as good as they expect the pro players to be. And I'm sure a number of them either don't play guitar or aren't as good themselves. It wouldn't be right to generalise this, so the OP was wrong in that aspect, but the OP has a good point. Nothing wrong with having an opinion and sometimes the public is right in its criticisms, but when you take it as far as to belittle the skills of a pro player, this is where people will ask to see your superior playing skills. This does not mean it's right for anyone to belittle others, because it doesn't regardless of skill level. It just means, that people need to do more putting up, or just shut up. I for one am a living room guitarist, and I think that fellow living room guitarists need to tone down their judgements of professional musicians. Even if the living room musician is phenomenal, pro players deserve their credit for what they do great, and for the fact that they are out there sharing their work. If you want to stay home, that's your choice, but it takes guts to share your work with a public who has more criticisms than skills. I think it's time we start challenging people to step out there and face the public with their own work. This way they can experience other people telling them they suck or how bad they are, when that public also doesn't have much to show for it. I think if people experienced their own belittling logic, they will better understand why it's important to respect one another, especially in the musician community.

My favorite band is Bon Jovi and ai love Richie Sambora’s music too so I really enjoyed this video I got started on Bon Jovi before I could even talk because when I was born in 1992 the year the Keep the Faith album came out my Aunt Amanda who is a huge fan of Bon Jovi used to sing to me Bed Of Roses when I was a baby because she didn’t know any lullabies and the rest is history and I have been a fan ever since then I saw Bon Jovi for the first time when I was in 2nd grade it was the Crush tour which was also my first ever concert too I have seen Bon Jovi in concert 9 times since then and 6 of those times Richie was there as the lead guitar player for Bon Jovi I am 28 years old now so I guess you can say I grew up on Bon Jovi music I actually learned how to play guitar because of Bon Jovi I just wish he would play one last tour with Jon and the rest of the guys in Bon Jovi and it would be so cool if they brought back both Richie on lead guitar and Alec John Such on bass guitar for one last tour that would be so cool to have all the original members of Bon Jovi on tour together once again one last time yeah I know they all preformed together on stage at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony in Cleveland Ohio but to have them all go on tour for one last time that would be so cool to see as a fan of them and their music
Not the performance you had in mind or were talking about. This is earlier in 1995...the best cover ever! The singing is alright, but nothing like The Beatles or Joe Cocker's versions. The guitar is fuckin' wicked going to the level 10!! I'm a guy almost twice your age! ruclips.net/video/Bz6Myqs6dLk/видео.html
A Symbol of humility ... Sambora testing guitars using the shirt with the name of another great guitarist. Sambora one of the greatest rock guitarists of history.
Such a cool video, but checking the comments really set my teeth on edge. So many haters! This video really warmed me up to Richie and Ori together. They were so sweet with each other! So haters move on.
She is bad ass. She was Michael Jackson's last guitarist, and has also been Alice Cooper's lead guitar as well. I got to see Alice when she was in the band.
I read an interview of Clapton and it sounded like it made a lot of sense. Kudos to Norman and his techs getting these old guitars together. But Eric said, I had a bunch of vintage. rare guitars. Some one of a kind. But you know what. I couldn't play em. They had been played SO MUCH you really could only play them in open(folk) positions. No amount of work or modifications could make then stay in tune all the way up the neck. I had experts try.So I got em all together except for a couple "collectors items" and sold them. Put the money towards Crossroads(his Caribbean drug rehab center). Got after careful examination a black Strat(Blackie) and a Brown Strat(Brownie). I have guitar techs. After every performance or so they go over them, although I use Blackie the most and straighten em out so they are like brand new. And that is what I really want in the end. A guitar that stays in tune all the way up the neck. Now I noticed after 10 years of use he has replaced Blackie #1. But it made a lot of sense to me rather than Richie Sambora and Oriantha screwing around with these beautiful guitars. You know that effects and amps can provide the sound you want. With Jimi and Stevie Ray dead who knows better than Eric Clapton. Jimi was using a cry baby wah and Terry Kath noticed Jimi was using it but it's the player not the equipment.(Jimi and Terry were both great with the cry baby wah). Sometimes I think many of today's guitar players were born too late. They should be playing a Stradivarius violin from 1680 cause they have no idea that you can Roll Over Beethoven and tell Tchaikovsky the news.
Holy crap, NG’s! This comment section is so toxic. Why can’t people just enjoy watching and hearing these instruments and basking in history? I care more about that than the people playing them. Edit: I wonder which guitar they bought?!
I was thinking the same thing. I dig Richie. Been a Fan for a long, long time, and I have always loved the way he plays. But 2 things stood out in this vid. #1 - he seemed to be totally wasted. And maybe not. But seemed that way. And seems like the last few times I have seen him in any kind of vid clip.... he's been wasted. And #2 - She sounded better than him. Just my 2 cents.
Alex Ander it isn't narcissism when you're really the best. Also it must be a hard life when the only mistake you've done so far is that you're way to modest. :p
The reason behind playing a guitar out of the Em scale first or just simply playing an open E chord or A power chord is so that you can get the true tone of the guitar right away...It right away gives you an idea of what the possibilities of that instrument are..If it passes that test then you know to explore further.
@@anhell32 That’s a resonator guitar. There are two basic versions: one for playing in your lap like she is doing, and another for playing “regular”. The lap-style typically have squared necks and suuuuuper high action. They’re only for using with a slide, and usually used with a solid slide (like she is holding, you don’t put a finger through it). The other style is like a regular guitar with a curved neck. Still known for being used with a slide but opens up more possibilities. (Note: These guitars are also known as a “Dobro”, but I believe the name “Dobro” is a model of guitar. Kind of like the “Band Aids” thing. :)
I'm sure the actual expert guitarists kind of wince a little bit, too. There are things missing that every studio or true student guitarist would work out.
Richie Sambora on the 80's and 90's had a great and clean technique (shredder with tons of soul) so I dont fucking know what you guys mean with 'Where are the great guitarists"? Yeah, he may be nowadays be sloppy but you couldnt even touch his phrasing and creativity back in the day so please stfu 😂😂
I was not that familiar with Orianthi prior to seeing this video. I am now!!! That girl is just flat-out ridiculous man! And of course Richie is Richie! We need to remember that this is not a guitar competition, nor is it The Voice or any of those type shows. This is just two killa' guitar players having fun in a guitar shop! What's to hate?? 💖😎
I saw her when she was playing in a GnR covers band who ended up in a local club. Spent most of the time paying attention to her for some reason, can’t imagine why.
These pro musician all like a Tele, I only learned today as it goes, that the strings go through the body as well as sitting in the traditional way through a bridge, apparently purists didn't like the traditional bridged type, they preferred to have the strings go through the body to the back bottom. If I were to buy a fender it would be a Telecaster,
Orianthi is just perfect!! what more could you look for than a gorgeous young woman playing loads of rare or vintage guitars like a pro in Normans rare guitar shop?? love her and ritchie wasnt bad either XD
***** oops forgot to mention that she is also playing guitar insanely well so thanks for bringing that up, i mentioned her look because she is a female guitarist which is not only rare but also she is a very pretty female guitarist which is pretty much a mans number one dream. don't take things so personal
Darryl Williams I liked her until she took that ridiculous gig with Fretlight. What a letdown. She's obviously no better than Nicole Kidman doing a commercial for Etihad Airways.
danmar007 Sad. For all the exposure that she's had, she could have made a bigger impact on the music scene as a female guitarist, but her solo career has been disappointing.
It's like watching 2 walking stereotypes.the has-been,sleazy,drunk,coked up 80's rockstar with a raging midlife crisis, who hasn't been relevant since the age of the VHS tape and his way too young, dumb, bimbo toygirl, who came to L.A. in order to become a star and ended up beeing the fucktoy of a guy who's old enough to be her grandpa.
It always cracks me up when people spend insane amounts of money on old guitars and gear. It's like they actually believe only people in the 1950's, (in the first few years of mass-produced electric guitars) knew how to make a great guitar and then that knowledge was lost forever. Don't even get me started on amplifiers. The vast majority of the people in the audience, (especially the pretty ones) have no clue if your guitar is old or new or ultra-rare or expensive or cheap. They simply don't care. All they want to hear is a great song and party. Eddie Van Halen got rich and famous playing an $80 homemade piece of junk. Most guitarists are insecure and they never learn from Ed's example. (And Ed must be laughing his way to the bank selling them his own line of multi-thousand dollar guitars.) They are too fixated on impressing other guitarists with an expensive piece of wood. Ed didn't care what anybody thought, all he wanted to do was make music and have a good time, which was reflected in his music and his ultimate success. Guitars are not rocket science and they don't need to be from the 1950's or expensive. All a guitar is is a plank of wood, some strings under high tension, and a magnet with wire wrapped around it. Play something good and innovative and be charismatic and the audience will love you, even if the guitar snobs laugh at your homemade piece of junk.
i mean that is true, but a 1964 strat has unique sound to it that new guitars now dont really acquire. The grit is sometimes what people like. I agree that new guitars are fkn sick as well if not better, quality wise n shit, but old guitars got their perks as well
My 1962 Harmony Rocket is on sale at Blue Mountain Guitar in W Lebanon NH. It can be bought online. It's in excellent condition. Straight neck. Very playable.
The argument from popularity is an interesting fallacy. I love a lot of pop music, and in no way did my statement say otherwise. Would you agree that there is a heightened focus in western society on what is 'marketable' over what is 'artistic'?
I don't disagree with anything you said, but my point was my opinion is we need a better balance between what you call 'dance' songs and real musicians playing instruments, and whether or not 'record labels' control anything anymore or not, and I don't think they have near the relevancy they once did, the point is the consumers -- the music listening public -- need to speak up...and that is what I was doing.
OK, that's your taste, it's subjective and perfectly fine. But how many girls in the industry are playing instruments, even to a level you don't like -- imagine we place them all on the left -- and then think of how many girls are booty-shaking popstars that we can pile up on the right? See a huge disparity in numbers there? Yeah, me too.
I don't disagree with 'sex sells' but who decides what 'sex' is? A girl that shakes her butt to a song she didn't write, with vapid lyrics (I mean, commercial jingles are 'catchy' to use your vernacular, but does that give it more value than a girl that put in hours to learn a discipline? Who decides this? Teenagers? I would just like more options for girls in popular music than what we have -- because do not pretend that catchy or not, popstar females need to be attractive. Many woman can sing Beyonce under the table but aren't gifted physically and so we will never know them. I have nothing against Beyonce personally and like some of her songs, but her looks are hugely important to her image. Follow me outside the box, if you will: what if what was POPULAR, SEXY, and CATCHY, was a girl picking up a guitar and playing from her heart (whether or not that YOU like it?) Am I wrong to wish more girls picked up a guitar instead of gyrating in boringly choreographed videos, regardless of what riffs they choose to play, or whether someone on the internet thought her riffs were 'flashy' but ultimately 'boring'? I'm just not sure what point you are making The argument for popularity fallacy? Because something isn't popular to the masses, we shouldn't ask for more diversity from female musicians?
They shop at Norman's Rare Guitars because they're the only kind of people that could afford to. The rest of us couldn't even afford to window shop at that place.

Right on awesome guitars norm it's always great seeing great people drop by at norms and play guitars love it
The hang tags all say around $20-30k from what I can make out.
You guys seriously need to do RUclips concerts in the shop with all these stars just with a small crowd and streaming. Would be sick!!
They love Em pentatonic as much as they love those guitars...
hahaha very good
Haha, who doesn't?
***** we all started with baby food, then we grew up a little and moved on to something more substantial.
gurey00 it's called noodling bud. they're not trying to write songs here
KEPHALLE I think you meant "substantial".
Music is such a wonderful connecter of people. If you play, even more so.
Those two can really play. I'm impressed!
Both incredible players, smooth as fuck.
Orianthi - guitar Goddess and ultra cool beauty..very fortunate to have had her sign some stuff for me too. She just oozes talent.
This would be an awesome video series. Artists coming in and shopping for guitars for their upcoming tours, recordings, etc.
Always so cool hearing some people jamming at the music store as good as these two
Too bad its usually a bunch of dumbassed kids the manager won't keep under control.
My favorite band is Bon Jovi and ai love Richie Sambora’s music too so I really enjoyed this video
I got started on Bon Jovi before I could even talk because when I was born in 1992 the year the Keep the Faith album came out my Aunt Amanda who is a huge fan of Bon Jovi used to sing to me Bed Of Roses when I was a baby because she didn’t know any lullabies and the rest is history and I have been a fan ever since then
I saw Bon Jovi for the first time when I was in 2nd grade it was the Crush tour which was also my first ever concert too
I have seen Bon Jovi in concert 9 times since then and 6 of those times Richie was there as the lead guitar player for Bon Jovi
I am 28 years old now so I guess you can say I grew up on Bon Jovi music
I actually learned how to play guitar because of Bon Jovi
I just wish he would play one last tour with Jon and the rest of the guys in Bon Jovi and it would be so cool if they brought back both Richie on lead guitar and Alec John Such on bass guitar for one last tour that would be so cool to have all the original members of Bon Jovi on tour together once again one last time yeah I know they all preformed together on stage at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony in Cleveland Ohio but to have them all go on tour for one last time that would be so cool to see as a fan of them and their music
Always wear your sunglasses when shopping for guitars.
Such a cool video, but checking the comments really set my teeth on edge. So many haters! This video really warmed me up to Richie and Ori together. They were so sweet with each other! So haters move on.
Beautiful guitar Shop...WOW!wish to be there and have 1 and Jam with Richie Sambora...
She is bad ass. She was Michael Jackson's last guitarist, and has also been Alice Cooper's lead guitar as well. I got to see Alice when she was in the band.
Great guitars with great people. Enjoyed the video.
That Broadcaster is incredible. Thanks for the vid Norm!
Orianthi sounds so much better playing blues. Color me surprised, I have a new found respect for her.
She#s awesome !!!!!!!!
I like that green tele, also the double bound Tele with the bigsby.
She’s so sweet to take her grandpa to the store with her
Sugar daddy ;)
And yet he was banging her and you are not. So there's that ;)
Somebody has to drive
Late 50’s was a Great Time in music.
Love watching great players jamming like that, makes me go pickup that guitar and jam every time. .
When he takes off his derby the hair goes with it.
Woooowww that place is identicly to the Guitar Center In Miami wher I buy finally my Dear Gibson Lespaul RoseFaded 2017...
So nice to see old rock stars clean and sober.
@Metalex r/whoosh
Well fuelled!
Richie was cooked.
Badass Guitars an Classic Cars is what I like. Blue Stepside 65
Love Richie,,,,,,,,,Richie Lived in Philly for a Short Time........His Riffs are Great..
it's nice to see a grandfather and granddaughter share the same passion for guitars
Idiot!
Lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Those two are some badass guitar players
Norman, I'd be so glad if you could manage to get your family through the winter again this year. Good luck! 😉🤣😉
is no one gonna mention how they just keep plugging the cable into the guitar like that XD
Yep no respect, sloppy people
I feel hungover just looking at Sambora
so drunk
Doesn't he have a PR that looks after him ?! I mean it's cool to see him checking out guitars but in that state...
Richie was on that devils dander.
I can smell the stale cigarettes from here.
Watched this episode a hundred times. A good one no doubt.
Damn that Orianthi intro though...... shes hella good at guitar...
Holy crap, NG’s! This comment section is so toxic. Why can’t people just enjoy watching and hearing these instruments and basking in history? I care more about that than the people playing them.
Edit: I wonder which guitar they bought?!
Los ban'os?
@@alwaysopen7970 ...Ya i think they're all the way in the back on the right there...But they might be for "Employees Only"..
Nice video. Respect to all involved. Wanted Dead Or Alive - The Legend.....
Richie looks wasted. No wonder the store owner looked so happy to see him.
Cocaine, licking his lips and talking fast and soft
@daniel laurence lol wtf are you talking about, I'm speaking from experience, you're speaking from your asshole.
I guess when you're q rock star you can play loud as fuck in a guitar shop
yes
+PIlotrcm hahahahaaaa. true
If you're a rock star, you can do whatever you want in a guitar shop.
Read their Yelp reviews that are hidden in the back of the fake reviews. Horrible staff. Horrible service. Nasty ass place.
Well I've seen a lot of rock stars then. Like anyone in a guitar store that I've seen have all been rock stars
Geez! Look at all them guitars. It's like being in guitar heaven.
But you can't take the Stairway
narcissism meets the blues
Alex Ander it isn't narcissism when you're really the best. Also it must be a hard life when the only mistake you've done so far is that you're way to modest. :p
yes alex ,who is sambucka oh sambora
😆
I like the way Norm is hovering like a Vulture.
Why not, he is entitled to make a living off these rich rockstars
The reason behind playing a guitar out of the Em scale first or just simply playing an open E chord or A power chord is so that you can get the true tone of the guitar right away...It right away gives you an idea of what the possibilities of that instrument are..If it passes that test then you know to explore further.
Absolutely true. Great point, thanks a lot.
3:55 -- Best shot in the video, a lifelong musician exploring music.
Is still slide guitar right?
Two guitarists fooling around in a shop really brings out a lot of expert critics.
I'm sure the actual expert guitarists kind of wince a little bit, too. There are things missing that every studio or true student guitarist would work out.
Bodhi
Every halfwit who can totally play smoke on the water dude, knows who can and who cannot play the guitar
Or people who think there expert critics? Just a bunch of haters
Can’t hate on people that made it.........
GREAT TO SEE RICHIE ENJOYING LIFE AGAIN! THEY BOTH ARE HAVING A FING BALL! COOL!
Sambora appears to be six sheets to the wind here. Hopefully he gets his stuff under control one day. Such a great player.
Orienta was driving because Richie felt tired
With many awards and money out the wazzu, I'm pretty sure he's doin just fine.
@@farmerone3710 yeah, because money and awards will keep you from dying 🤦🏼♂️

Nice to see that great guitarists love to go shopping as well. They noodle just the same as we do, but at a much higher skill level
Barry Leslie not a lot higher....
@@madden7732 Richie is ok at best!
With alot more money than when I go lol.
@@randycomerford2038 may I know why is he OK at best? Have u even listened to his first solo album?
I was not that familiar with Orianthi prior to seeing this video. I am now!!! That girl is just flat-out ridiculous man! And of course Richie is Richie! We need to remember that this is not a guitar competition, nor is it The Voice or any of those type shows. This is just two killa' guitar players having fun in a guitar shop! What's to hate?? 💖😎
Love Orianthi... She's a beast of a player.
I take it you don't play guitar
Um anyone with ears knows she's a beast of a guitar player
Can't compose worth a shit however.
I love the plugging in and out of the live amps... pro a.f. . .
Grerat stuff and nice to watch and listen...grtz from Holland to all:-)
Fender Telecaster - is my favorite electric guitar.
That was nice of Orianthi's grandpa to come with her to the guitar store.
yes and in such a sober state....
LMAO
.
David Sauer Well, at least she found one with similar interests!!?
I think they`re a couple,which gives hope to us all :)
***** dude get out of here!
Greg Gammago kind of like you.
I got one of my best riffs from Ritchie off “Livin on a Prayer”. Dude is actually a great player.
To them, it's like candy shopping.
I'm not tryna be contrary, but as a connoisseur of all things candy, I imagine this is more like a wine tasting.
They are soooooo L.A.
Richie is from and lives in JERSEY
Thats even worse.
He doesn't live in NEW jersey, he lives in LA.
Alex Lawrence Yep found that out yesterday
It's like watching 2 walking stereotypes.the has-been,sleazy,drunk,coked up 80's rockstar with a raging midlife crisis, who hasn't been relevant since the age of the VHS tape and his way too young, dumb, bimbo toygirl, who came to L.A. in order to become a star and ended up beeing the fucktoy of a guy who's old enough to be her grandpa.
I love those Fender sounds!!!!!!!!!! Both, so great to watch!!♥♥♥
Damn I wana shop guitars like those guys
Well, the price on one was 23,000 and change.
@@fingersmagoo9344 yep that would LIMIT me to WINDOW SHOPPING 🤣🤣

Brian May too.
Amen. Well said.
True, but usually expensive gear is better than cheap, but skill makes most of the good guitar playing
i mean that is true, but a 1964 strat has unique sound to it that new guitars now dont really acquire. The grit is sometimes what people like. I agree that new guitars are fkn sick as well if not better, quality wise n shit, but old guitars got their perks as well
Used amps do sound better than brand new ones though, fact
My 1962 Harmony Rocket is on sale at Blue Mountain Guitar in W Lebanon NH. It can be bought online.
It's in excellent condition.
Straight neck.
Very playable.
Awesome guitars, awesome players, lovely people!
We want more Orianthi and Sambora videos :p
Yes !! from bed time !!
We need more Orianthi and less Beyonce in popular music.
Less bon jovi would be nice too...
Not true at all. Norms have guitars for all budgets. He is in Tarzana, stop in and check it out. You'll be surprised at all the goodies he has!
I have a buddy who bought a ‘59 Strat for $20k and it’s essentially a car loan to him lol.
