Really Karl Barth was a well educated and also a courageous man. This combination is rare in real life.He has set an example to the Bible believing Christians. Thanks for the lecture on Karl Barth professor Gore.

Why didn't you cover his views of election? Surely Corporate election should come up in a discussion/lecture about Barth.

Thank you for another interesting and informative lecture. These help me a lot.
However, something you said gave me pause. At @ 19:51 you said, "Hitler was elected Chancellor in Germany...."
The German people never elected Hitler to any position. The only time Hitler stood for election was in the presidential election of 1932. He lost the election to Paul von Hindenburg by a slim margin. Hindenburg later appointed Hitler to the post of Chancellor as a political compromise. (Hindenburg had appointed and dismissed a number of Chancellors before then.) After von Hindenburg's death, and with the help of the Reichstag, Hitler seized complete power over the government and the country.
I'll admit that, In the overall scheme of things, this point doesn't change what you said regarding Barth.
One other point deserves attention. To the extent the evangelical churches in Germany succumbed to the Nazis, it wasn't a voluntary surrender. The Nazis had made a point of infiltrating these churches, and then used intimidation and violence to bring them into submission. Because of the Nazi's tactics, I've always viewed the Barmen Confession as a more courageous expression of faith and defiance than some people think.

Barth seems to have been a man full of contradictions. He build his theology on Hegelian dialectics and Keirkegaardian Existentialism, then claimed to be entirely against human reason. And as for his claim that God is "wholly other", how can we know such an unknowable God, never mind love a God who we have nothing in common with?
