Come for the tutorial, stay for the slick hawaiian shirt
Fun fact: Bought the Hawaiian Shirt for an Ace Ventura costume years and years ago - liked it too much after that!
@@MatthewMcCleskey This was a good fun fact.
@@MatthewMcCleskey the Hawaiian shirt got me to subscribe. cool tutorial though
@@MatthewMcCleskey can this softwares replace de actual animation process?
This is exactly the spirit that Joel intended when he released how to do these animations. The joy and spread of knowledge and tips and tricks to help others create. You had my attention before, and now my respect.
Joel, and the creators of Ebsynth, who made it free. I'm 80% convinced that the program is made purely out of magic.
Matthew, you are Plato to Joel Haver's Socrates. I am here for the golden age of EbSynth animations. Subscribed.
im glad this art style is growing its interesting. I wonder were it will go in a couple years.
Same here!
@@MatthewMcCleskey Im trying to learn it to spice up interviews for a documentary im making but this thing dose not like mouths or movement lol
Same here 2
So cool
@@Brandon_Brando Adjust the advanced settings an up the video weight in EbSynth. In the Duel animation, it would recover the eyes after blinks it was pretty insane
@@MatthewMcCleskey What advanced settings should I change?
Why is your voice so calming???
wow knowing that ebsynth handles transparency is so great! now I can actually add some greens to my characters
It really is a life-changer
Hi @@MatthewMcCleskey, I didn't quite catch how to make transparent backgrounds, is it something you do on the keyframe?
@@BruceKenobi i’m pretty sure you just outline your characters in photoshop and delete the original image layer and export the frame as a png in photoshop
You should colab with Joel on a video idea sometime.
The Funniness would be too much , it would be too hard to breath between laughs
I'd love another of these! Your current vids look so clean.
uuuh I hit the 1000th like, thanks for the tutorial man this really helped!
I had no idea after effects had this much 3d functionality. This EbSynth rabbit hole has changed he way I look at everything.
Hey, Matthew! I have a small tip for recording audio for Your shorts: cover yourself with a thick blanket when recording voice-overs. When You're recording live footage, throw as much blankets around You as possible. It reduces the room's reverb and helps to set a more believable mood for the shorts, as You have the control of the audio space (reverb, echo, delay).
And other than that, great tutorial. Thanks! ;)
Nice tips! I didn’t realize that EbSynth could handle transparency. I’ve been blue/green screening everything. I’ll have to try that out next time!
Love your rules and guidelines!! And good look
Thanks Matthew! Appreciate the EbSynth / AE tips, and definitely look forward to more!
This is great thanks!! I've just been adding shadows in my keyframes like what you would see in Archer. But man does after effects look awesome for editing!
You mentioned using masks to hide artefacts, but you can also manually fix frame by frame in photoshop. If you have a drawing board, it doesn't take too long to fix and it will give you more flexibility with character movement as well~
Masking is like doing that but over a series of frames - but there is an even easier way to clean it up which I will make a video on here in a bit
@@MatthewMcCleskey So about this easier way to clean it up..... ? lol
Very helpful. Thanks Matt. My tutorial is basically how to use Ebsynth itself and it was a 5 min video haha
I’ve only ever edited on my phone or free to use apps this looks way cool!
Matthew, thank you for the effort that you put into each video.
I especially like the usage of stock photos behind a cartoony foreground. It can come across as cheap, but it does come across to me as you pushing the technology as hard as you can, whether or not it really is the case.
By the way, is it possible to make your characters walk in such a way, that their feet don't remain firm on the ground? You can see it shows like Scooby Doo, where Scooby might run fast but cover less ground than he should have.
Matthew! Could you do another episode of tutorial to show how you handle redrawing characters when ebsynth loose info during movement? I bet you don't draw it from the scratch whenever ebsynth goes crazy
I have no idea what any of this means, I just like your voice.
YOU DESERVE MORE VIEWS!!!!!!!
Thanks Matthew! Just made my first one
Great video dude!
This is awesome bro
I have minimal experience in AE, so this kinda felt like a great learning spot. I could play with ebsynth and also improve my Ae skills
Oh this was awesome. Dang more than 300 people need to see this wtf!
Please keep up this new content! I might try doing some eb synthing myself!! 👀
Great video! I like your keyboard too
Thanks! It has a calculator on it 😎
Well that was awesome
Brilliant. Thank you for sharing. Regards L
Im working on my first right now and wondering if I even need to do the transparency either.. I was going to just shove the drawn background onto the keyframes *shrug*
Unintentional ASMR voice
So I'm an artist (many different mediums)- brand new to the animation world. I was asked to be involved in making a cartoon! So maybe I have some new skills to learn... Can I just create character designs FOR an animator, or do I character design + learn animation in order to make the cartoon happen...??? Thoughts? Advice?
That's cool thanks
Teach a man to fish.
Cant wait for an update to ensynth that makes thks faster and easier.
Also an open source workflow, adobe is a corporation.
Also, subbed this was a super informative video, humble, relaxing. Much appreciated
For an open source workflow, you can do video editing and 3D animation in Blender, I haven't tried it but it's probably what you are looking for.
I don't use anything Adobe because I think the company absolutely sucks, but I'm sure I could figure out equivalent buttons and processes using things like Krita and Blender.
Is there a good way to do this without After Effects? My Adobe suit from college expired and now I have to use free programs :/
You could use DaVinci resolve it's free and has some compositing tools. It works a lot different After Effects since it is node based.
Lots of other tutorials for it online!
@@MatthewMcCleskey Awesome, I'll look into it! Thanks so much for responding, love your work and hopefully I can get my animation looking good haha (after I finish just the EBSynth part lol)
Is there a similar feature in Gimp for the Image Trace function @2:30?
I'm not super familiar with GIMP but I don't believe it deals with vectors so I am inclined to say no. I may be wrong, though.
I don't think so, but there is one in Inkscape, free and open source, it's great.
@@junglefett Thanks, I will check it out
I found with the animation I'm currently working on the frames came out a little cleaner in EbSynth when I greenscreened vs when I tried transparent, might depend on the background of the source footage
It should only matter what the source footage is - not so much how you have EbSynth output
Can you help how to change the 'Project Dir.' location?
Just a thought; If you mention Joel's tutorial specifically, would it not help to link the video/channel in description?
If you’re on mobile, a banner pops up in the top right a few seconds after 0:42. Click it, it’ll send you there, also the channel name is Joel Haver
Greetings good video you can collaborate with the ebsynth installer by Mega since the server and the page does not work.
What resolution is your real life camera?
It's lit so poorly here but I use a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4k
So 4k, but I filmed in Ultra HD for this and scaled down to 1080
@@MatthewMcCleskey thanks, did you scale down then draw over, or draw over it then scale the animation down?
@@ThomasSchannel I scaled down first. You will get a crisper image either way, but I didn't want a whole bunch of 4k images taking up space
@@MatthewMcCleskey That makes sense, I've just been not getting crisp lines. what bush size you use?
I use 7, but I use a pen on my surface pro so depending on how hard I press it varies slightly
Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrd.
Is this an ASMR lol .
With shift video g2h subs -_-
You don't sound like Mathew

Alternative title: Add style to your "Joel Haver style"
Just messaged you on Instagram
I came for the Ebsynth tutorial and he just talks about after effects. Clickbait trash.
Matthew, what do you think of this Ebsynth content creator.
