Charles The Hammer Martel ..it's because we always feel so young.. running against the wind..then all the sudden were no longer strong enough..so we sing about it.
July 13, 2018. 70 years old on September 13th and still running against the wind. Bob sings the kinds of songs that touch and move me so deeply inside. Disabled Vietnam vet who is eternally grateful for artists like him. Still mostly mostly surrounded by strangers who are definitely not friends.
Look deeper Craig, their out there n u will find them. CRAIG, OUR VIET NAM VETS. ARE THE BRAVEST, GREATEST, AND BEST FIGHTING FORCE THAT EVER FOUGHT AND DIED FOR MY FREEDOM AND OUR COUNTRY GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. AND THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART
My daddy turned 70 the other day too. I put this song on because it reminds me of him... He is a Vietnam vet too. He saw the Tet in 68 and I wish I could see through his eyes, but honestly I just see the daddy that I love so much and I miss him. Your post made me think of him, Craig. Made me smile and cry... I gotta go home for Christmas - it's been WAY too long... Eternal thank you, Craig. Blessings and love and may you always keep running against the wind. 💕
Most of these comments are by older people (no offense at all) commenting about how they still love this song. I’m here as a 15-year old and I love it just as much.
Hi Charlie im one of those older ppl. A few years go by, maybe more maybe less, either way, this song puts that picture in my head about years ago when we were able to run. Now we would give anything to do it over. Or at least try.👍
Trust me, dude, this 70-year-old unrepentant rocker has a 15 year-old boy inside him who just will not settle down, or give up-give in-give out... You are not alone; no one is alone. Rock on 'til the break of dawn.
One of my and my dads favorite. I was taken from him at birth and he always longed for me....we were both listening to this one and we were both against the wind....and now after 39 years reunited! This song encouraged us throughout a lifetime! Thank you Bob
I'm a 71 years young retired, Vietnam Veteran, and I start listening to Bob's songs back in the early 70's. His songs have, and continue to be, the soundtrack of my life! Thank you Bob!
I am not far behind you brother...although I did miss heading to the garden spot of southeast asia...and a shout out to Bob for giving us the music of a generation....oh...and "Fair winds & following seas"
I am 61 also. I hear you. Memories, joys, heartaches, some things you wish you could take back, some things you wish you would have dished out. Life hasn't turned out how I thought it would. Things happen, circumstances change. Two things are certain. Life has gone fast ( trying to figure out where the last 35-40 years have gone) and the second being hind sight is always 20/20. As they said when we were in high school, "Keep on Truckin"
Yep Ive always been running against the wind for sure, and here I am 54 now.........damn that went fast........looks like Im heading into the final turn but Im going full speed ahead and not holding back, gonna do all I can and end it with my head up.
I went with a girl back in the 50's for sixteen months loved her dearly then one night she called me and said it was over and that hurt, three days later she cam back and said she cried the whole weekend only to call me the next day and confirm it was over. Like Bob says I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then. Fits perfectly/
@@mylillyrose wow that must've been one helluva girl to last with you all those years! Ted, or Theodore I'm presuming based on the math of your age which puts you around 75-90yrs old, thank you!
Seger almost took that line out of the song back in the day. He didnt think anyone would like it. A friend convinced him to leave it in the song. Glad he did.

I know what you mean Alan,I lost my wife in 2013,and this was our song when we would go riding thru. the country side. It has more meaning now then it did back then.My favorite Bob Segar song.
7 years ago I played this at my daddy's memorial where I spread his ashes. It was a dead still day in the desert of Arizona and when the song came on I knew my dad was there and there was a deep gust of wind. I know he's resting easy. Love him and miss him every day. Heaven needs a phone service tho.
Man don't heaven need a pho service for sure I would luv to talk to my dad and daughter I miss them so much and still I'm running a ginst the wind at 59 yrs of age
This is grown man music. Actually had tears in my eyes one day trucking thru Alabama listening to this song. The sun was coming up over the rolling hills... The sky was a clear blue with beautiful clouds here and there. And I'm rolling and thinking about how happy I am at that moment, much to be grateful for. Peace and blessings to the families of the storms banging thru the Carolina's right now. Soul has no race. #humbling
I think you gotta be older to really appreciate this song. When i was younger i grew up with it ,but never really listened to the words. Now im blown away by what it means to me.
When I was little and my dad was in his 30s we used to listen to this song in the car. He used to make me be quiet so he could just enjoy the song ... he’d always have tears in his eyes. Now I’m in my 30s still listening to this song, but from a different perspective ... and now I always have tears in my eyes
Ditto but that was in 1982 when I was 8. Lol. 👍😉❤️ many of these songs bring me back to simpler and happier times with my family. Now everyone is slipping away one by one and I’m feeling alone but I’ll see the Again. We’re spiritual beings and never die. Just change forms and beings.
Felt like I’ve spent a lot of my life running against the wind. But you know what, I’m STILL here! I may have lost a lot of my dreams a long the way. But they’ve been replaced by dreams that focus on others instead of myself. I may have fallen down quite a few times, but I’m still able to get up today! And you know what, I’ve learned that running against the wind is sometimes a good place to be in life!
My father passed away in 2013 from lung cancer and everytime I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes. Keep running against the wind Dad. I miss you

Sheila Taylor I lost many friends because I live in Buffalo, NY you know that Buffalo that gets 10 feet of snow every winter from Lake Erie. The State of NY loses 1 million people every 2 years because of weather & Taxes. 1977 Blizzard was bad winds 80mph it snowed every day in December & January for a total of 19 feet, there was still snow on the ground in June, there were workers stuck down town for 5 days City & Schools were closed for 3 weeks. Also we have to wait till July to go to the Beaches because the Lake frezzes over. Some years ST. PATS PARADE gets cancelled cause of to much snow. No one knows of all other Citys near 5 Great Lakes why Buffalo gets the most snow. Buffalo is only 1 mile from the Lake. Winters are so bad the Coast Guard flys Helicopters over the Lake to keep people safe. Buffalo was called SNOW CAPITAL OF USA. After 77 Blizzard people were really afraid of us. We only got Visitors because Niagara Falls is close. 3 years ago Lake Erie dumped 8 feet in 12 hours. I feel for people that have houses on the shore line of the Lake. Ive heard 5 Great Lakes are as dangerous as the oceans. Buffalo is a Border City because were neighbors with Canada. Always WHITE CHRISTMAS IN BUFFALO
Absolutely one of the greatest songs ever .. But I guess you had to have been living in those days 70S and still running against the wind today . what a ride
Actually I think it was a keyboard. I always got to the nightclub late and wound up dancing next to it. A big tall blond guy played it...anyone remember his name? It was the Seger System back then. Whahoo!!! My favorite all-time band, make the Beatles look like spoiled kids. Live on Motor City!
Exactly. I'm drawn to moody, introspective songs like this. BUT they must have killer lyrics --that make you think. Another one by Bob S. is "Turn a Page". The piano seems to have a voice; and it talks to the guitar(?); not sure. (This is like "Lady In Black" by Ken Hensley; two guitars "talk" to ea. other; possibly guitar & keyboard?) . Against the Wind reminds me of someone I'm with now; back together after a long separation; around 38+ years.
After 70 years I still remember the good and the Bad. Brothers cut down in the prim of life. Never to be Forgotten. Rest my Brothers Till we met again.
@@nelliemathis1671 So true. When I was younger I was to busy running against the wind and didn't like Bob Seager but now that I'm older and a little wiser I can relate to all his songs.
Huge Bob Seger fan here. This is my all-time favorite song in the world. There was nothing like listening to this as I rode my HD Fatboy through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Thomas Bisignani Its about her cheating on him." If I didn't know now what I didn't know then" means they would still be together. I've been there myself.
It doesn't necessarily meant she was cheating on him but more like the end of innocence ... she held him tight and told him it would never end but the reality is that noone really knows whether it will last or how it would end. They were young and didn't know any better.
Thomas Bisignani - - the phrase could mean many things. I think it is about innocence of youth and naivete. The world is every young man's oyster and then .........deadlines and commitments.
I lived most of my life running against the wind. But sooner or later you get just to tired and old to run anymore. And when it all catches up it can hit you like a freight train, I've been there.
This whole song is amazingly poetic but the part that spoke to me the loudest was “The years rolled slowly past And I found myself alone Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends I found myself further and further from my home and I Guess I lost my way There were oh so many roads I was living to run and running to live Never worried about paying or even how much I owed.... This part certainly hit home for me, and likely many others too. Powerful lyrics
One of the greatest songs ever written. The deep lyrics and the piano go together so well. Seeing Bob play this in concert several times in Seattle always left me speechless. Thank the Universe for putting Bob Seger on our planet in our lifetime!
I saw him in Seattle, too, at the old King Dome...we lit lighters that glowed in the dark...I still cry when I hear this song...I'm still running against the wind...
This makes me cry after all these years. I'm not young and still alone. So much has left me hurt. Still running against that wind like I did when I was young. The body ages but your mind is stiil young.
Mary, we're all older and like you I'm sitting here listening to these old songs trying to capture a fleeting moment of happiness from the past. I try to lock into it but it keeps escaping my grip.
I know exactly how you feel we thing life is long but it's so short. the boy I fell in love with when I was 12 I married at 17 and in was killed in the air force when he was 27 I've never loved anyone like that again. This song makes me sad. I had a girlfriend about 20 years ago and she was very lovely, I called her my Mardi Gras queen because we went to New Orleans at that time for 5 Carnival celebrations. Well that relationship ran it's course and I ended up marrying someone else for 17 years. But I never forgot about my Mardi Gras queen. About 10 yrs ago I heard she had passed away from cancer, I'm just sorry I never got tell her goodbye and thanks for the adventures....her name was Janie. 🌹
The loves of our lives are sometimes people we haven’t seen in many years, hopefully living full lives and fulfilling their dreams. The same goes for us, and I’m sure they hope we’re chasing our dreams too.
Almost every man and woman runs against the wind in life. This song touched my life a long time ago, yet the meaning has deepened in me. You can hear the heartbreak as well as strength in Bob's voice.
Ed--I didn't realize how prophetic this song would be in my life back in '68 and '69 when I was dancing with my sweetie in a jam-packed nightclub near Detroit. How did such an old soul like Seger know all that we know now...and wish we didn't.
2 tours here left 1970 worked 6 years private work S. Africa Defense Force , ended up in Central America busted and did long stint , grew old still running against the wind.
This song to me is very meaningful because of my whole family and for each one that has past on and was treated like shit for no reason all the way up till they took there last breath so those who hurt others emotionally and physically can answer to God now

i was homeless, trying to get away from my toxic friends while mourning the loss of my grandma so i hitch-hiked across the prairies in novermber desperate to find a better place, the freezing wind at my face all day and the prospect of not finding a ride in the middle of nowhere loomed closer. but finally a man picks me up, he hardly says anything, then he lights up a joint and offers me some, then he puts bob seger on and this song comes on and i had to turn my face towards the window and began sobbing. i was pretty stoned...
It's not so much that you were stoned. I feel that it was more so that this song - as for many of us - struck a chord about particular periods in our lives. For many of us in the later 60's, and 70's the music was so relative to the stories of our lives. There will never be another era of music and words this great. Unless the millennials of today cut their teeth on music of this era, they will not understand the power behind the music of our lives, and how much it continues to speak volumes. I pity many, much of the graddoo of this day and age that is called good music. Much of the music/songs of the recent past - and now - reflects/defines a self-serving, glutenous, and chaotic place in time. So no, Sparks, you were not overly stoned. Your mind was simply allowed to be free to releasing the emotional blunt trauma that life can hand us. Tears are simply the love and sadness in our hearts that finds it's way to the surface. As sung so eloquently by another 70's master, ' Go when you can, cry when you have to, feel you must that's a part of the plan. Await your arrival with simple survival, and one day we'll all understand~' Thank You for sharing such an intimate time in your life.
The funny thing is bro, that music , songs , are signposts thru our life. You know you're gonna move on , things will get better. You'll have hundreds more rides ,& hear hundreds more songs. But you will never forget that ride & this song. Truth. Good luck my friend. Music is timeless. It is one of the greatest gifts bestoyed on us by the creator. Relish it & relish life , it is so short.

Twelve years sober!!! This song is very deep
I am 61 and I just cranked this and it still gives me goose bumps. My heart…aches…the memories…
Your heart aches not because of the song but because of pending cardiac arrest.
im 49 and i cry almost all the time because time flies .

Contains the greatest line ever written in a rock song...wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then. How true!
it's my favorite line of any song

So True
I went with a girl back in the 50's for sixteen months loved her dearly then one night she called me and said it was over and that hurt, three days later she cam back and said she cried the whole weekend only to call me the next day and confirm it was over. Like Bob says I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then. Fits perfectly/
@@mylillyrose wow that must've been one helluva girl to last with you all those years! Ted, or Theodore I'm presuming based on the math of your age which puts you around 75-90yrs old, thank you!
One of my favourite lines came from this song: "Wish I didn't know now, what I didn't know then". What a beautiful plea for innocence.
Amen
Wish I knew less now than I knew then.
Seger almost took that line out of the song back in the day. He didnt think anyone would like it. A friend convinced him to leave it in the song. Glad he did.
Love that too.. I think the piano makes this whole song amazing.

Damn right!!!

One of the best songs words with meaning and the piano just sends shivers when I hear it
Piano does it.
We all run against the wind everyday .Just to love God so we can be free and see loved ones again. ❤
I'm here because a daily dose of Bob Seger is good for the soul!
It sure is! 😁

They were young and didn't know any better.
mattmanw54301 yep
Thomas Bisignani - - the phrase could mean many things. I think it is about innocence of youth and naivete. The world is every young man's oyster and then .........deadlines and commitments.

I wish I could get in my car and just drive go parking at night and make out listening to music I love we get older but we don't forget being loved I will die without anyone holding me
Another great example why my generation will never settle for less.
Never settle for less.....happy people have green grass!

Funny how a song can take you back and put a different perspective in your life, most of us just keep running and turn up nowhere.
I just turned 80 and I am still running against the wind but the Lord of the universe provides for us.
God bless you sir ... Keep runnin'

I know, right? This is such a beautiful song. Anyone that doesn't like this song doesn't know the true meaning of beauty or in this case, a beautiful song.

Yes, you can't help thinking that 3.8k must have been born with silver spoons in their mouths and sheltered from the wind,!

Dedicate it to my father! 29 years in federal prison! His friends walked, snitched, but he never lost faith! Made it out, and never lost his name! 👍

Listen to all Bob Segars music, you will be hooked
U have excellent musical taste...listen to as much music as u possibly can, don't limit the genre, listen to everything
THen u'll know
You are an "Old Soul" Lila.
Good for you girl! Always good to have an eclectic and expansive taste in music....it's the poor mans travel 😉
i was homeless, trying to get away from my toxic friends while mourning the loss of my grandma so i hitch-hiked across the prairies in novermber desperate to find a better place, the freezing wind at my face all day and the prospect of not finding a ride in the middle of nowhere loomed closer. but finally a man picks me up, he hardly says anything, then he lights up a joint and offers me some, then he puts bob seger on and this song comes on and i had to turn my face towards the window and began sobbing. i was pretty stoned...
This just could be another powerful song...
Await your arrival with simple survival, and one day we'll all understand~'
Thank You for sharing such an intimate time in your life.
This is a great story. Almost made me want to cry too!
Beautiful story , man , beautiful memories! Live life to the max! Sounds like you were really livin' it🌈💖🌈💖🌈💖🌈💖🌈💖🌈
Bob has a voice that simply makes me feel so good and unbelievably happy ❤ amazing BOB😍
