    Disclaimer: Lore is subject to rumor found in the game universe.
    In this chapter of the Elder Scrolls Lore Series we leave the Daedra and Aedra behind to explore what the mortals call "Guilds". In the world of Tamriel guilds have a lot of influence and carry a lot of weight, even in politics. To understand Tamriel you must understand the organizations that effect it.
    ~ Corrections ~
    I'm not perfect, and I promise you now, with a series as ambitious as this, I will slip up. I'm counting on the lore masters out there to serve as a last line of defense in my fact checking. If you find a mistake, feel free to leave a correction in the comment section below, and make sure to include a source, or it will be ignored. NOTICE I SAID MISTAKE, not if I left something out, because I will come back to it later. Any corrections I'll be forced to make will appear as video annotations, but if I do my job right this will be a rare occurrence. Oh, and sorry in advance for butchering the punctuation of any names!
    ENJOY!!!

    The rules that the Thieves Guild live by aren't just noble, they're pretty logical. For example, the whole "Don't steal from the poor" thing. It makes sense. What good would it do you to steal from someone who doesn't have anything? You'd be essentially robbing them for practice. Not to mention, the part about them helping you out with info when needed.

    I like how the idea of “Dragonbreaks” can explain the player’s different choices in all ES games and keep all of them canon

      Isn't it pretty much cheating? I would prefer if you could transfer your saved game to the next installments in the franchise and the lore would change based on your choices. Like in the Elder Scrolls 6 you could learn that the side you had chosen in the Skyrim civil war won, at least initially.

    I wish that they could have swapped the times they made Oblivion and Skyrim. Skyrim is one of my favourites, and I know it is a fundamental element in the elder scrolls series. But Oblivion took part in the main place in all of Tamriel, and undoubtedly had the best quests, guilds and items. I would even argue the DLC was better with the shivering isles. I wish they'd have made Oblivion for 2011, with more developed graphics that would have been the best game ever.

    • @LUKEAZADE997
      @LUKEAZADE997 9 лет назад +3

      Yeah fair point, I wish they could just remaster Oblivion to modern day graphics. I love Skyrim and the dragon born aspect of it, and HD quality complement it brilliantly. I just wish a game as awesome as Oblivion could be done justice with better quality gameplay, I can't play Oblivion at all after playing Skyrim 😕

    • @whiffyclarke
      @whiffyclarke 9 лет назад +5

      There's a really good mod early in development with that in mind. Skyblivion. Oblivion in Skyrim's engine. Looks amazing but still had around 2 to 3 years left before it'll be released ifI I had to guess.

    • @whiffyclarke
      @whiffyclarke 9 лет назад +1

      LUKEAZADE997 It looks amazing. Here's a link to the official site: tesrenewal.com/
      This site actually has much more to do with Skywind than Skyblivion because that project is bigger and has been in the works for longer. Neither of them are likely to be releasing within the next year or two at least from what I've read, but they are certainly something to look forward to. I bet they'll be out before Elder Scrolls VI. Skyblivion doesn't have as much focus, but I've heard that it will be much easier to develop, since Oblivion already has full voice acting, music, and decent enough armor that would require better detail as opposed to a complete overhaul.

    I suppose one of the reasons that the guilds were so much better in Oblivion was because they were these huge, massive conglomerations that had tons of power.
    In Oblivion, The Thieves Guild had just gotten a new Master Thief, and stolen a bleeding Elder Scroll in the hugest heist of recorded history. I haven't played through the Thieves Guild in Skyrim in a few years, so I can't really remember how that ends, but I assume it ends with the Guild being built up to be truly great once again.
    After what happened in Oblivion with the Black Hand, the DB was effectively a shadow of what it once was, In Skyrim. At the end of the you assassinate an Emperor, proving just how powerful and influential the Dark Brotherhood still are. After doing this, it's kinda inevitable that their influence would spread into something similar to what it was in Oblivion: Sanctuaries all across Tamriel and tons of members and contracts again.
    The College of Winterhold ends with a new Arch Mage in Skyrim, right? After what happened to the Arcane University in Oblivion, maybe this new Arch Mage manages to influence people's views on magic once more, and creates a new, even more successful Mages Guild?
    It'd be nice to think that the next TES game has the Guilds restored to the powerful states that they used to be in once more, so that we could play through them without them being shit, like in Skyirm.
    That'd be neat.

    People are constantly complaining about why the fighter's and mage's guild is not in Skyrim...
    You are in Skyrim and NOT in Cyrodiil!!!!
    Skyrim is just a province of the empire and not a part of it in such sense.
    Same with the bitching about the not so radiant color theme of Skyrim... Cyrodiil's climate is much warmer than Skyrim's. Of course Skyrim won't be that summer-like.

    ciaran1029 Yeah, in Oblivion, they steal from the rich to help others survive, and in Skyrim they don't care about anyone; all they give a damn about is money, and they're all corrupt and greedy. I feel that all the guilds in Skyrim dropped the old ways and completely forgot about honour and respect. Like the Dark Brotherhood lost power and could fall because they abandoned the Five Tenets, and Mercer brought the Thieves' Guild to shit because he stole the Skeleton Key, and the Guild dropped its ethical code.

    • @RosieSquall
      @RosieSquall 11 лет назад

      I think that was the point of the Guilds' storyline.

    • @kevgmei
      @kevgmei 11 лет назад

      RosieSquall But in Oblivion, they have a deal with the beggars to be their eyes and ears. In Skyrim, they have a deal with Maven for... something or other.

    • @RosieSquall
      @RosieSquall 11 лет назад

      That's what I'm saying, the whole stories of both Guilds in Skyrim are about their fall because they turned their backs to the codes that founded them. The Guilds in Skyrim forgot everything they were about and paid for it.

    • @kevgmei
      @kevgmei 11 лет назад

      RosieSquall Yeah, same with the Dark Brotherhood and the Thirsk Mead Hall. But as for the other factions, I believe they simply needed a superhero in them.

    • @RosieSquall
      @RosieSquall 11 лет назад

      LOL Yeah.
      But, well, there are tons of mods that take care of this particular problem. I mean, every single quest is too easy to complete and you find yourself as the leader of all the factions way too quickly and without breaking a sweat.
      That's why I like to use mods and different characters to complete the quests according to their roles. It feels more natural that way.

    The Fighters guild acted unfairly to the Black Wood guild, they destroyed a very important part of Argoinian heritage. Thusly it would almost be like the persecution of talos in skyrim. Yes their methods were flawedwith the sap but it seems like there could have been a more beneficial conclusion on the matter. But i would think the desecration of the hist would have spurred more conflict then ending it. Thoughts? disagree, agree?

      This might be a little bit of a cheat, but quick save before you are about to pick pocket, and reload if you are caught. Don't steal everything at once, that has a higher chance of failing then stealing one thing at a time. Make sure you are hidden when pickpocket ting, you have higher percentages, and you have more items to choose from. That's all the tips I have for pickpocket ting.

      Because it took them 5 years to make Skyrim 1 single province, how much longer would it take to make 9? All the extra textures, meshes, models etc?
      Even though they focused on 1 continent it was still an extremely shallow experience and I dread tho think how many corners they would have to cut to make Tamriel.
      ESO did it but how bland are the landscapes, the textures are poor, the quest system is worse than in Skyrim. Though that is what you get with an MMO so it is expected
      What Bethesda need to focus on improving next game is the narrative delivery, conversation system, the character progression, making decisions impact the game world in a real meaningful way and improving the AI

    i like skyrim but it pisses me off how u have no choice on how the story unfolds and how u can serve all the dadric princes and join All the fucking factions without being confronted about it by anyone! the lack of dialog uptions aint too great eighter

      Well for the most part you are right but there are a few people who make note of it such as the wood elf in the college of winter hold also being a fence for thrives guild and in a rather funny line delvin Mallory has a unique speech option if you are thrives guild and dark brotherhood and I'm sure there are other instances but you are right not enough people acknowledge the sheer amount of things you can do but I attribute this due to hardware limitations not laziness on the part of bethesdna

      I like and dislike it because it gives the player a lot of freedom but goes against lore in ways. I think it's better to just let the player choose what they want for the sake of role play. I generally make a character specific to each major quest/class so that I don't feel like the hero who literally accomplished everything. I think it's better played that way.

    I love these videos, but the man's voice is just annoying, I can't understand what he's saying, his voice is so... moist, it's weird.
