Small correction: V1 was the one made for war, able to heal by directly absorbing blood of his enemies. V2 was made as a guard bot prototype for peace times so they made him tankier at a cost of not being able to absorb blood thru his armor

My question is what went through people's minds that they thought they needed a robot of V2's caliber to defend one single ass person.
1:41:27. There is a reason why Minos Prime doesn’t have a face. It resembles his selflessness, he put others before himself (that and Hakita probably didn’t want to do facial animations). His skin is clear to resemble his intentions to others, they’re clear and he’s honest. His crown signifies his position, a king. His overgrown heart and entire cardiovascular system signifies his love for others.
Just some little details about Minos’ soul manifestation.

His crown is also towering buildings and skyscrapers, signifying that he believes his city is what gives him his position. He places his position atop his head, closest to him so he can keep his people close.

Swordsmachine in prelude is the OG swordsmachine as said by Hakita. The reason he shows up even if you do the secret fight in 0-2 is solely so you aren't robbed from the intended experience of his boss fight in 0-3, as the alternative would be killing him early, reaching the end of the next level, encountering what is clearly a boss arena, and walking in only for it to be empty.
the only other option would be throwing sm's corpse at you, but that'd be lame too
I feel like it would be funny if killing the swordsmachine early made the boss room empty with a message like "somethings missing..."

One thing I really like about limbo is the music. It kinda tells a story.
First you get that peaceful little song, but as soon as you meet an enemy it all changes back to ultrakill mode, you've come back to reality. But careful listeners might notice that a leitmotif from the first track is in the second theme too, almost as if trying to lull you into thinking that there are no enemies and it's as peaceful as when you first got there.
Then limbo has the audacity to play the first song in 1-2 while you're fighting enemies, as if trying to gaslight you into thinking that "actually, it's always been like this. Haha, silly goose". But after the streetcleaners arrive, limbo just says f**k it, take these ear screeches instead.
The first time A Thousand Greetings turns into A Shattered Illusion is such a great moment.
Honestly I feel like limbo in ultrakill is just Eternal gaslighting as a punishment, like its just "oh maybe if your good enough we'll let you out" but they Never do is the thing

I think it's really interesting how both V2 and the Marauder from Doom Eternal both started out as these incredible difficult challenges until people found out that they both have distinct patterns that can make their fights trivial. Though I still get my butt kicked by both of them haha.
They're also supposed to be polar opposites to you, the player, using techniques similar to yours against you in combat.

It should be mentioned that it's common fan canon that V1 isn't hot-swapping arms, he's just grafting the arms on and eventually appears like a machine Vishnu. Considering some of the official album art, it's apparently been subtly made canon.
That also explains how his double gun powerup still has a melee available. (Doesn’t explain where he gets the other guns though)

From 13 minutes to almost two hours, man how things change. I also think that the section on 2-S was really well done as someone that has struggled with anxiety and depression.
On the topic of Fallout, you may wanna check out Planescape: Torment if the first two games have been to your liking. I don't think they play the same way (Planescape is a D&D game on the Infinity Engine like Baldur's Gate), but it's by the same developers and has some great writing.

The malicious railcannon can actually hit cores to create a larger even more highly damaging explosion called a "Nuke" by the community. It's one of the most essential pieces of tech for playing the Cyber Grind at a high level.

For the Flesh prison I find that using the red railgun actually works really well to get rid of half the minions at the start of when they spawn. just shot the corner of the boss when they spawn them and poof half are immediately gone

2-S literally changed my life. I remember the first time I played through it, I was entrenched in Nihilism, and I was even playing ULTRAKILL just to escape from my lack of purpose.
I remember laughing at the subversion of expectations, then slowly becoming more and more jaded as the nihilistic philosophy suddenly emerged and I realized what Mirage was saying mirrored my thoughts exactly. I was suddenly jolted from my escapism, and it made me extremely uncomfortable. I just sort of agreed with everything she said while my mental state progressively lowered. And then that screen came on.
“You’re wrong”
That immediately caught my attention. I read my way through the rest of the dialogue, and I literally felt my worldview shift as the protagonist completely annihilated my toxic philosophy. I was blown away, and at the end of the secret, I just got up and thought for a good long while about what I was doing with my life.
2-S inspired me to look for another way of seeing the world, and through that I found the works of Albert Camus and the philosophy of Absurdism, which states that the meaninglessness and struggles of the universe are the very things that make life worth living. I read his book, the Myth of Sisyphus, and I became an Absurdist, essentially a positive Nihilist. I still continue to improve every day, and now, like Sisyphus, I try to appreciate and even relish in the struggle of pushing the burden of life’s hardships up the mountain of human experience. All of that was thanks to ULTRAKILL.
I know Hakita is possibly setting up a bait and switch with the second Prime Sanctum and it won’t be Sisyphus, but at the same time, I desperately hope it’s him. Sisyphus is the embodiment of the philosophy of absurdism, and I would love to see Hakita’s interpretation of him in ULTRAKILL.
Also, the Mindflayer section was extremely well done. This video overall is fantastic, amazing work! Your penance is accepted and you are forgiven for your crimes against the pinnacle of game design and sequel to sex.

Same here. When I first played S-2, I had no idea what I was getting into. That day marked a big change for me. I no longer feel like my life is meaningless as long as I give it meaning.
Unfortunately for me, "meaning" to me apparently means doing weaponless P% speedruns of ULTRAKILL at 144p because I think it's funny.

At 1 weapon/varient, the stays at fresh (1.5x)
At 2, it caps at used (x1)
At 3, it caps at stale (x0.5)
At 4+, it caps at dull (x0)
TLDR; if you want high freshness, do the jerma strat (unequip all of your weapons)

I like just how consistent Minos is, after you beat him for the first time it just gets easier, and eventually you’ll do it every time, then you’ll try fist only, then you’ll get fist only every time, and eventually you’ll struggle to die in the fight. It’s hard, but it’s very very fair

Seriously though, the effort put into this one by yourself and Elliot is very clear; a treat for newer and older players alike! And from me personally, I really appreciate that 2-S section.

oh my god that soldier introduction was fantastic, props for going all the way with it
to clarify: gluttony isn't really the inside of minos (because the layer had to exist before minos did.) instead, it's more of a pocket dimension sort of situation--as the rest of hell is--where the entrance to a place does not exactly lead to the next physical place but somewhere outside of it. this explains how later levels are able to have open skyboxes.
I appreciate people like you. It takes a specific and special kind of person to be able to look past funny robot girl and take things like that seriously, but genuinely, it’s good to see. I like This Trav Guy :)
I started playing Ultrakill on act 2's release, buying the deal because I'm not the richest, and heard good things about it from friends, another reason for it is because I heard it's hard and needed to git gud.
...And I died to the Malicous Face 35 times on standard.
And V2 made me realize how much i sucked using movement and aiming.
And Gabriel definitely made me feel like I was fighting an Angel.
This game basically slammed me into the ground over and over again, but because of how fun it was I almost always enjoyed it!
And after a month and some days P-Ranking the entire game, I absolutely loved it, even getting good enough that on Violent I beat Gabriel the Apostate first try.
This game's got something only it can satiate...
Like Blood for the Machine.
The music, the graphics and accessibility, weapons, combos and style, it just flows so well like butter and vaseline over a slip and slide, and you are going to be making tricks on it at the end of it.
Overall, all I can say is it was an incredibly good deal.
Been watching since the first ultrakill video and I’m glad you that you returned to it because it gave me the drive to P rank Minos prime so thanks for that but seriously keep up the great work.

For those that don’t know or are as confused as trav about why malicious is called maurice
If you crush an enemy under a malicious face (aka kill a malicious, and he crushes an enemy while falling) you get a style point called “maurice’d”
That’s not why they are called Maurice.
Well, yes, you do get the +MAURICED, but it does not explain _why_ it is Maurice.
It's Maurice because of a meme, where originally there were 2 images next to another with one of a giant, intimidating spider labeled "Gigamesh the Consumer of Reality" and then a small, barely visible ladybug labeled "maurice". Someone then edited it to replace the spider with the Corpse of King Minos and the ladybug with the Malicious Face. Hakita saw it, liked it, and thus +MAURICED was born.

So cool thing about the nail gun. You can fire A SINGLE NAIL from the blue variant, and it will completely fill the overheat on the green variant. Makes melting Maurice even more of a breeze than it already was

For those wondering and not willing to go back and test it; Yes, Something Wicked does respawn if you pick the red skull back up and not back at some dedicated respawn point. He will appear back in the same spot he disappeared from, still moving towards you. So don't tempt fate for too long...
Fun Fact: Maurice falling onto an enemy upon death will kill the enemy, granting the point bonus *+ MAURICED*
If a malicious face's corpse lands on an enemy and kills it, it'll add +mauriced into the style meter

1:42:06 I noticed that when fighting pinos you were only dashing out of his attacks. Just holding the slide button and changing directions will almost always allow you to dodge his 3 hit combo, allowing you to store up your dashes for his JUDGEMENT! or other attacks

42:27 to clear it up the most of the secret terminals are from the perspective of God except for one I can remember mentioning that the terminals at the beginning of levels are alive and the “points” are them paying you for entertainment which is also the explanation for the cyber grind
You can disable weapons and variants, allowing you to not accidentally use them and removing them from the freshness equation for if you don't like one or if you wanna suffer

I know I'm about a year late but I have a small bit of trivia about the slab revolver if you don't know this: Since splitshots don't split, but rather add an additional hitscan to the beam, you can jump/slam/jump while throwing coins upwards to give the coins a bit of a boost into the air before switching to the Slab Piercer and firing a charge shot. If you do it right, splitshotting all four coins on the second window with the charge shot, this should do about 25 damage. I couldn't math the exact damage because I'm a bit stupid, but it's enough to one-shot a Cerberus and get a Swordsmachine down to a point where it'll be very easy pickings. For context: a Railcannon hitting all four coins, while easier to pull off, tops out at 14 damage. Not-so-budget Railcannon, indeed. Slabcoining is also a thing. I'm very bad at it and as such have no comment on Slabcoining vs. Railcoining vs. these two methods of damage output.
About the Knuckleblaster's bindings: I feel like the problem isn't where the G key is on the keyboard, but rather the awkwardness of having to press a second button to swap at all. I was elated when the devs updated the game to allow you to bind specific arms to specific keys, like the Whiplash already was. Currently, I have the Feedbacker bound to F with the Knuckleblaster bound to G (I bound swap arms and punch with selected arm to random keys on my numpad so I don't press them) and it works *wonders* for fluidity. In fairness, my keyboard is quite small, but I still feel like it isn't that hard to get to G in the first place--merely that it was annoying to have to swap through them.
I started doing this recently in the cybergrind! Does really good damage to bigger enemies

The spider being Gilgamesh and the ladybug Maurice. Later, someone who liked Ultrakill took the meme and put an image of The Corpse Of King Minos over Gilgamesh, and Malicious Face over Maurice.
Hakita (is that right? Never learned how to spell it) saw the meme, thought it was funny and made Malicious Face's canon name Maurice
He explained it in his ultrakill act 2 part 1
All I know about the name Maurice is that when it drops ontop of an enemy it gives you the '+Mauriced' on the side for style points
The name “ Maurice “ comes from the style combo that you get from killing enemies with the Malicious Face corpse.

The way I did it was accidentally getting launched off the edge, Gabriel immediately did a ground slam, went in the pit, killed himself, and let me get both the challenge and P Rank for 3-2 on the same attempt by complete accident
When you mentioned to slam storage to slide movement tech, I decided to try it out and it turns out that if you hold the slide button and jump while you do that, you go way further
