  • A unit of Union cavalry must ward off Confederate horsemen while the main army is fighting elsewhere. Filmed at the annual Battle of Gettysburg reenactment in Gettysburg, PA. All musical credit to Immediate Music.
    This is my footage taken on July 3, 2011 of the recreation of the cavalry action in Fairfield at the 148th anniversary Gettysburg reenactment. I cut the audio due to a chatty crowd and a narrator on loud speakers, but I hope the music will suffice.
    Those historians among you will note that the Confederates won the actual Battle of Fairfield while the video suggests they lost. This is on no part of the reenactors, but merely a result of my video editing. If it comforts you, consider this a general cavalry engagement rather than the specific clash at Fairfield.

    This reenactment was done with blank rounds, which means the shells had gunpowder but no projectile. If you are interested in reenacting, just keyword it and look for a unit near you.

    I hope that offer is valid, cuz here you go: ruclips.net/video/MsYWse1ZCLw/видео.html.
    BTW, had you read the info box, you would know why I "shit" music all over this. Quote: "I cut the audio due to a chatty crowd and a narrator on loud speakers." If that's what you'd rather listen to, then there are plenty of other uploads on RUclips, but I think it kinda kills the emotional impact. When I can, I don't use music, but music is often the only thing that makes these videos possible.

    I just think it would be ultra cool to charge towards an opposing army on a horse with a sword in your hand (as long as you knew you wouldn't actually be getting killed.)

    Forming infantry squares is the best option for the Union Army when facing a charging Confederate cavalry in the Battle of Gettysburg.
    There is a historical record of a Union infantry regiment from Indiana that formed squares against a charging Confederate cavalry from Texas in the American Civil War, it's known as the Battle of Rowlett's Station. Kindly log on to this link www.quora.com/Military-Strategy-Are-there-any-instances-where-infantry-formed-a-square-against-a-cavalry-attack-in-the-American-Civil-War and read and see for yourself.

    • @69gunguy
      @69gunguy Год назад

      @douglasmowrey2362 as long as fhe horse is trained to ground tie its really not hard or even an injury risk for anyone who can mount and dismount without a stool, but I understand the fear. I do not expect it from anyone but I do it when I can to add some sense of realism to an engagement.

    Hi to The True King of Norway!
    I'm John Carey, a primary teacher teaching in Ireland. I am working on an educational resource for History in the classroom and was wondering if I could use your Civil War cavalry charge to link in with one of our local heroes, Thomas Francis Meagher who was commanding general of the "Fighting 69th" NY Regiment. He became first governor of Montana and is depicted outside their state capital building on his horse, urging on his men. Here in the city of Waterford, we recently erected a similar statue of him astride his horse, sword in hand. Incidentally, whilst Governor of Montana he died in mysterious circumstances, having been pushed or fallen overboard on a Mississippi riverboat. Many thanks if you can give me permission! This is an educational, not for profit resource to support teachers in the classroom. All the very best, John Carey, Waterford City, Ireland

    It actually IS based on real information. Why don't you try going to the National Archives and find me examples of black Confederate soldiers. Or try the NPS Soldiers & Sailors database.
    The burden of proof for such a statement relies on the one making it. If I went around saying that 10,000 Chinese troops fought for our independence under George Washington, I'd kinda have to back that up, don't you think?

  • @CavalryMan280
    @CavalryMan280 12 лет назад

    And yes there we're black confederate soldiers. I can assure you. Check google images

  • @kuwinsitall
    @kuwinsitall 12 лет назад

    There were asbolutely zero black Confederate troops at Gettysburg.
    There were some black militias raised in Louisiana at the start of the war, but were rejected by Confederacy.
    Lee even considered using black troops at the end of the war, but was turned down.
    The truth is that there were pretty much zero black confederate troops. You are deliberately lying or just misinformed by people trying to make the South look better.
    Show me proof from National Archives if you think you are right.

  • @kuwinsitall
    @kuwinsitall 12 лет назад

    There were no black soldiers that fought at Gettysburg. Many served in support roles, such as cooks, but the CSA never allowed regular black troops. It's a fact.

    • @ElCid48
      @ElCid48 5 лет назад

      Your "fact" is BS.
