    Man I just don't know what to say. There will never be another Ella Fitzgerald. I keep on playing back when she started the scat. Just perfect timing. Everything was on point. Simply amazing.

    It always moves me deeply to watch clips of Ella in her advanced years, because she doesn't look like she's in good health and seems frail, yet when she gets the cue, that eternal gift turns on and you realize that the body may be failing, but that fire burns just as hot and as bright as ever. SO powerful!

      To me it's proof great musicality lives in the mind and heart and not in the throat - you have it in your head, that knowledge you've built up over the years - It can never be lost.

    The Manhattan Transfer sound awesome, but that scatting by the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald (who was 66 years old at the time) is PHENOMENAL! How I wish I more of today's singers would aspire to such excellence.

    My nan and grandad absolutely loved this lady and I think went to see her in concert.
    They both loved the Big Band Swing Sound back in the day.
    Manhattan Transfer - My nan had one of their LP's back in the 70's and when my sister and I were kids, we would sing to "Chon Son Da Mor" (forgive me for misprunounciation). Happy memories!!

    This spectacular result is a testimony to the incomparable talent of Ella, and the equally great talent of TMT, which make amends for some technical imperfection (if you are musically trained and listen carefully you will realise that at one point Ella actually gets lost). A meeting of giants.

      @shawmcgee1531 8 лет назад

      +SchweizerKatze Top talent is not just in getting it right, but is pulling it out of your ass when things go to shit. ie: Benteens mike dive on the Carson show circa 1981

      I'll try to find the exact title for you.
      A segment from the Carson show circa 1981 (?). The mike cable fell from Benteens hand just before she was to do the final vocal florish. She managed to snatch it off the floor and finish spectacularly

    • @musicloversunite5925
      @musicloversunite5925 7 лет назад

      I have seen the segment you are talking about from their appearance on Johnny Carson in September 1982. It was actually Janis Siegel's microphone cable that came undone as she was about to sing the finish on You're My Heart's Desire. Cheryl was in the blue dress, standing between Tim and Alan.
