I've been through the SS Meteor, it's a good tour. Yet I still never understood how thinking a half sunken ship was a good idea. In bad weather good freeboard is paramount and these boats don't have much. Great video, thanks!
I remember seeing the METEOR when she laid up in Manitowoc in 1968, and was towed out in 1969. I have a picture of her in drydock in Manitowoc, and only the aft mast and top of her stack is visible over the side of the drydock! My grandpa worked at Manitowoc Shipbuilding from 1915-1959, and helped cut the CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS up for scrap in 1936, which was loaded into Japanese freighters, and according to grandpa, and probably melted down into bombs used at Pearl Harbor!
Hello, Connor! Thank you for the kind words. If you would like a picture of the METEOR in dry dock, please let me know, and I'll be glad to send you a print.@@ConnorTenold
was surprised to hear you say that FOUR still exist today. I have seen (and toured) the SS Meteor but was unaware that any others survived. Do you know which ones they are and where they are?
I learned something new today, Connor. Thank you. The City of Everett (2:42) has masts that look like they're rigged for sails. Did they use sails as a secondary source of propulsion? Well done (I almost typed "whale done" but, stopped myself.) with this video. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with next. Superior Wisconsin? Does anyone go there other than by accident? :D
@@ConnorTenold I can imagine. The last time I checked, the population of Duluth was around 80k people. That's more than twice the number of people who live in the small city where I live.

All the other Whalebacks are wrecks. The SS Meteor is the only INTACT Whaleback left.
Saw a whale boat tied up in chicago 1965

I don’t think they used sails on it I think it was for cargo handling, etc.
Lol, Duluth just gets all the action…
