    NOTE: The AT-5555Nii and the AT-5555N are DIFFERENT radios internally. The Nii is a a whole generation ahead of the AT-5555N and the AT-6666. They are all good radios, but the "Nii" is a better radio in almost every single way to the older models. (New features and outstanding performance). 73

    Yours is the second review on the quad five I have seen, and now I’m inclined to go get one. I have had a quad six for about two years now, and have been happy with it with one exception. I do wish the radio had some kind of a waterfall display so that I can see where the traffic is on 10 m.obviously on 11 m there’s no need for it. Nice job on the review!

      Is there a way to adjust the power output, I like to be abel to get down to legal amount of power. 4w FM/AM and 15w SSB. If power adjust knop is all down i still get 10w at fm.
      at am i get around 2.5w and ssb 5w so its only the FM is a bit high, can it be adjusted without loosing the high power output ? I have the older version without the service menu. but its the same version as in this video.

    The big-box home stores sell stick-on rubber feet. I put them on all of my mobile radios and the base stations that have lost their feet. It's good to see that some manufacturers have an interest in the radio hobby market.
    Noise reduction has always been a problem for the radio manufacturers. If users learn to embrace FM and it's advantages the natural noises at 27 MHz won't be as much as a deterrent to using the service.

    I use a 5555n in my truck as a bile 10m ham rig on a quad band mobile antenna (6,10, 70cm & 2m) with an opek switch to swap between radios. The 5555n is a great inexpensive rig. Have done dx as far as NZ, JP, S.A., & IT. The newest Quad 5 WOULD be nice for the noise filter. Mobile DX'ing can get hard on the ears after a while. Got spoiled with the DNR in my Yaesu's. I don't like the proce of the Stryker 955 - but I like that I'm seeing its a lot simpler to use - so yah I've got to go with what I can learn & use without getting mad & taking a hammer to it !! But, I at least had to watch videos of these to really determine & make a decision !!

    I've been watching some of your older videos and noticed with your range testing that your meter would pick you out at less than S-1 at about 12 miles. I thought that was absolutely astonishing that you had basically a zero noise floor and that you could be picked out at that low of a signal.
    So I started looking at my noise situation on my new Anytone AT-6666 and even at night when there was no traffic there was a noise floor of S-5 on every channel and a noise floor of S-7 on channel 36-40 LSB. This was NOT the radio, it was something in my house causing that noise, which basically caused me to miss all of the low signals because they were covered up by the noise. There is no way I would be able to pick out a S-1 because the noise was S-5.
    So I started unplugging everything in my house, one by one, trying to find the source(s) of noise. What did I find??? The ROUTER when connected to the ethernet cable was causing most of the noise, about S-3 worth. When I disconnected the ethernet cable from the router the noise went down to a S-2. When I unplugged my security cameras the noise went down to S-1. When I unplugged my desktop audio amplifier power supply the noise went to showing NOTHING on the meter.
    Since I had basically NO NOISE I went through the channels and found a bunch of guys talking on channel 14 that were 25 miles away from me. They were coming in at an S-4 and I could hear them crystal clear because there was no noise, and they could hear me just fine.
    So eliminating that noise allowed me to hear so many more people because they weren't being covered up by the noise.
    I would bet that you too could eliminate ALL that noise by unplugging routers, cameras, and switch mode power supply (wall warts) that come with damn near everything these days.
    Thanks for your videos, I enjoy watching your testing and antenna ideas. They have helped me out so much. ;)

    • @MowerJunkie
      @MowerJunkie  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you found the source of your noise. the noise I have is only during the day, at night my radio is very quiet. if I use an old radio like my Washington, it's quiet all the time. the newer radios just don't have the filtering like the older radios had. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.

    • @spaceflight1019
      @spaceflight1019 Год назад

      Most people have noise problems. Things like you mentioned, plus LED lights, microprocessor appliances like washing machines, solar panel controllers... it's a RFI jungle out there!
      The traditional way to troubleshoot it was to have a battery powered radio on and turn off the main house circuit breaker. If the noise level is reduced then turn all of the branch circuit breakers off and turn the main entrance back on. Check the noise level. If it's still low turn the branch circuit breakers on one at a time. Allow 5 minutes for anything on the breaker to reboot and start making noise. Once you find the noisemaker then take a walkie talkie and go snooping until you find the offender. A zero noise level would be fantastic but impossible to achieve. Christmas lights are notorious noisemakers, along with fish tank heaters, electric blankets, heating pads, Lacrosse weather stations, and some things that you would never imagine.

      Time to get a case of ferrite cores noise chokes start placing on every input and output line of the culprits should not effect the router or the cat 5 if you still use hardline internet one at router and one just before getting into device those chokes are easy nuff to use just snap shut some you may run loops in and out to create double choke with one ferrite core

      I have the same here, if RF is RFG is full open, i have S4-5 day and night. If I turn RFG to 11 o'clock i have S0, but the i get also a cracking noise. I have some noise I pick up quite clearly on all frequences from 25-30mhz, it seems to be from S5 to S8, and for every 30hz. Very clear at 27.400 then 27.430 etc. All the band.

      You can't go wrong with either radio. Both radios need to be modified to work as a CB, But the 6666 is very easy to do.

    I have both these and the Lincoln 2+.
    In fact, I have 2x 5555N2.
    The 5555 is just great for big ham-fisted fingers and is my favorite.
    But the 6666 is just as stunning to hear and transmit as the 5555n2. and really pretty identical in terms of basic functionality.
    Like you, I do like them both equally except for the size. The 6666 is so much easier to fit in the newer cars somewhere.
    I do like the Lincoln with all its functionality and the green screen is beautiful, but sound shit.
    I've also got one of the AM/FM 10-12meter radios and that is a little ripper.
    Can't remember the model at the moment, but it's another AnyTone and is the size of your hand.

    Man I cant decide. I want a bigger frame I guess. So I will go for the quad 5!! The Anytone AT-5555N 2. But I need to cut a wire and move this thingy 😂 "jumper"? over. To get into CB / 11 meter modus or all modus. Which I never did. It saves me €80 to buy the 5555 and have to do the mod. Or buy it in my country for €80 till €100 more with the modification done. I am not cheap. But it looks so simple to mod it to 11 meter myself and save money. I really want this one. Thanks for showing the radio's and menu's.
