In Australia in the 80s, when 27mhz AM/SSB was big there was a few backyard techs in the business of modifying CB radios. I remember as a kid having my Uniden AX144 tuned to have a bit of extra power and modulation turned up and extra channels. The modulation was big and loud (the rage back then). But the extra channels the clarifier didn't really work (buzzed at a certain position). I managed to tune the pots he put in internally to get it on frequency without the clarifier position causing a buzz on the extra channels. Yes, some of his jobs were ok, others a fail (cowboy techs).

There was no mention of what you did to fix the horrible overdrive shown at the start of the video. Was it possibly just backing down mic gain? That was the first thing I would have tried.
OK. Just curious because your video and the one you linked to for the original modding done to the radio were lacking details about what was done or what the waveforms looked like on the other modder's bench. It left me guessing. Keep up the good work.@@GroundControl204
@@mark-qr6yv The linked video and that shop does not use an oscilloscope to tune the radio, improper tuning at its finest. You cannot do this work with just a watt meter, so I don’t what you mean about my work lacking, it’s actually the complete opposite and the job was done correctly‼️

This is my fear. I ordered a President Johnny III from Effingham Radio Repair CB Shop. I ordered it off there their eBay store and it was listed as pro tuned & aligned. I received the radio with no notes or anything on how it preformed. The power cord ends look to have never been hooked up to a power supply. I’ve not yet got to hook it up myself to try it out. But definitely worried I got screwed out of the extra money if it turns out to be a stock radio.
The power cord ends are just soldered, which us techs call “Tin the wire.” Usually that solder will stay clean for years even after use buddy. I have never heard of effingham CB shop so I have no clue what they can and can’t do. You can send it to me for diagnostics and to correct any possible flaws with the other shops work, if it turns out to be good work the diagnostics is free and you will only be charged for shipping back to you. Have you had any radios from Rooster CB in Tennesse come through? I'm wanting to know how their work measured up on an O Scope.
Rooster is a peak and tweak shop, he does not use an Oscope or any other proper equipment to do work. The only thing he uses is a bird meter.🚫

No backing down the mic gain will not help a poorly aligned and poorly tuned radio. All corrections had to be made internally! 73
