That's true. If you make a disk sander from the pulley on the motor, this machine will be more useful. Since i built mine, i can sharpen my drill bits accurately. Sorry for spamming, but here is mine: ruclips.net/video/N-B4-VYqd3k/видео.html
After watching well made video production and quality builds I stumbled on this video and I’m like: boy that is some crude rough measuring and all… then I’m like… man that’s still better than what I would muster up. Good job

Wow truly a nice simple effective machine. You should be very proud. I made one a couple years back just out of scrap and a treadmill motor. I had like 3 bucks in it and though it does still do a good job I thin it is time to do another one right. I will be blending a few that I seen Together but this is really close to what I want to build.
People who have never gone through that with a bench grinder don’t REALLY know what it’s like to want a belt grinder. It’s like a rite of passage: you must wear out at least one bench wheel before you get a fancy belt setup.
Great video. You have some new innovations, particularly the use of a compression counterbalance instead of an expansion spring. Don't know why more people don't do that. Expansion springs break all the time. Since you don't have a mill you should use your plasma cutter more often. It seems to leave a nice clean edge. Loved that you slotted with it. Would have liked to have seen how it did on the curved slot. I really enjoyed watching you work. Looks like this 4th of the July weekend I'll be starting on mine. Sorry honey.
Came here from Made in Poland. A guy there had said you have a good channel yourself. He was right! I've subbed to your channel. BTW the coke can made me LOL.
I like this design. The circumfrence of the wheels on the grinding surface and backing plate should be colinear. This will ensure no space between the belt and backing plate. Your setup has about 1/8th space between belt and plate. This will give bevel grinds a radius.
That is one of the best I have seen. I would love to build the same thing. Any chance you would provide some measurements and other necessary information? I am willing to pay for the info. Thanks for a great video.
right that's it i realy need to get in the shed an start makeing stuff again!! been wanting to make one off these for ages as i make swords and knifes and i gring the blades on a cheep buggerd belt sander i now have to atach my drill to to get it to work!! that said it dose work fine could do with a bit more power though, not to much or i'll loose my fingers haha, love you videos!!
Very nice. Love the adjustability n using a ram instead of spring for tension. Maybe down the line you can wire in a potentiometer or a step switch so you can adjust the speed. Another great build though. I want one
Nice design. Just a note for people who are gonna build one after seeing this...you DON'T need THAT much weld bead on stuff!!! You'll probably save yourself a week of work and $50 in wire if you just weld things as much as they actually need to be, LOL :-D
Nice work man. Almost identical to mine except I used treadmill motor and speed control☺ One good thing to do is get some ceramic stove glass and attach to your platen (double sided tape and small "shelf" beneath it) Otherwise over time you'll wear into it 😉
@@WorkshopFromScratch Yeah it works very well and there is always a large flywheel on it that can be used as the drive wheel ☺ Speed control is nice so wood doesn't burn from high speed. Subbed to see what you come up with next and greetings from Ireland 🍀
In the case of woodworking, speed control is very necessary, I also need to mount speed control because maximum speed is not always needed :) Greetings from Poland :)
@@WorkshopFromScratch Treadmill motor is nice because it's dc so easy enough to control speed. If your motor is ac, maybe look at a variable frequency drive (Google VFD) 👍
This is far the best precision engineered belt sander I’ve witnessed on RUclips. Do you have the dimensions on how to build one? As I’d gladly like to craft a replica out of stainless. I work with stainless you see. Best wishes.
Hey Shane; I liked and enjoyed this build as well, but if you're interested in a belt grinder build that truly out does them all, here's pt 1 [below]: Granted; in order to duplicate this build you'd need more than just DIY hand tools, but even so a version of this could be built on some level. Anyway it's great just watching + there's many good ideas. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/gaIVzdJ2V5w/видео.html
@@filipstrelicak5227 I believe I got them from the video, there were pics I can´t see now, send me your email and I'll send them to you as I saved them by the time.
Dear Sir, Nice video. I have built a similar 2 x 72 grinder. The Tracking Wheel assembly on mine has not worked out very well. Your piston type assembly might work for me. Can you tell me where you got your's and maybe I could adapt it to fit my unit. I would greatly appreciate any help.
Another great build. Clearly you don't just start without having a design to work from. Do you work from a set of drawings that you have designed yourself or are there resources available online that you can download and use as a template that you can modify as you go along?

An excellent build! Bravo! However, I feel I must point out that your drill press is in serious need of some TLC (Tender Loving Care). It needs to be cleaned up with a little maintenance. Take care of your tools and they will serve you well for years! :)
I've got to stop watching these builds. I don't know which one to build FIRST ! WOW...I love these builds!!! THANKS FOR POSTING

Funny to me cuz when I just started I burned the motor of my grandpa's grinding bench. It was 50 years old but still..
