The word SIMPLE doesn’t begin to describe this project. I never seen so much heavy metal cut, a multitude of holes drilled and then taped. Fine piece of engineering.
You are a life saver for someone like myself watching. I have the means to make my own, but just don't understand the basics. Watching you step by step really changed my thinking process. Thank you.
Super handy for your belt grinder machine I got the old one to support my workshop. I want to make new but the problem is never founded belt sanders in my country so made belt sander by myself but not good at all breathe glue. Now I'm learning how to buy from outside Thanks for sharing
Great project. I like the smaller, half-size version of a 2x72, which will fit my shop better. I think the only improvement would be a crowned idler wheel to keep it tracking truer.
Great if had all the equipment used in making it. I could buy one heck of a belt grinder for less than all the cost of the lathe and stuff. Having said that I would make it if I had the stuff. Great job.
Thank you! Yeah, a lathe is pretty handy - but I made it from scratch too (using mostly an angle grinder, drill and welder as I didn't have a lathe / mill earlier😂). But that's true - if you had to buy all this equipment - you could buy for that a new mad belt grinder 😁.
Nice, but Belt Length Adjustment Arm should use more rigid profile (see other belt grinders), with longer belt and heavier work it can get to some vibrations.
To be honest - it's stiff as hell. I can't imagine that part flexing under heavy work even with longer belts. More likely the belt would slip or something like that :)
Very nice. Looks robust and trustworthy. Didn't like the green, but that's just a minor detail. Fork cable lugs in that terminal board would be a better choice, but you tight them very well, would do the job just fine.
Thank you! I love that green colour so I just had to paint it like that. And you're right - fork cables lugs would be great here but I didn't have any at home that moment.
The belt seems to be skipping side to side, the roller of the tracking mechanism is causing that because it's flat, it must have a raised center that centers the belt. Thanks for sharing.
The thing is - the roller is not flat. If you'd watched more carefully you would see that one of them is made in a barrel shape (exactly the thing you're talking about). Thank you for watching and the comment! 😊
¡Gracias!
Nice job. Thank you for sharing. I notice your wheels or rollers, are about 3” or 75mm wide. Also, you’re using a 2X48 belt. Did you do this so you can use multiple sized belts? If so, what other sizes fit on this machine. Just asking out of curiosity. I am working on a belt grinder that will run 1X30 and up to a 48” as well. I was only going to make my rollers 2” wide though. I think I like yours better though.
Exactly! these rollers should give the possibility to use 70-75mm wide belts (i didn't test that side yet though). I'm already using this belt grinder from time to time and I'm really happy with it.

Hi! There are cutting speeds which are good for certain materials. If you have a 1500rpm motor you and want to grind steel you'd have to make the drive wheel bigger so the cutting speed is the same. Depending on what material you want to grind - do some research of what cutting speed the material needs and just adjust the drive wheel diameter. Vc=(PI * d * n) / 1000 where Vc is cutting speed [m/min], d = diameter [mm], n = rpm of drive wheel. If you are operating in inches - just adjust this formula to inches or find a formula prepared for inch-based units :) I mean - you can grind with slower speeds but it will hurt the efficiency.
@@GBWM_CNC Your answer with details explanation make me speechless. My primary purpose for this belt grinder project is for knife making purpose. Secondary, for general metalworking. So what do you think about 2 HP with 3000rpm?
@@kratingdieng 2HP 3000rpm is exactly my setup.
