Watched in awe. Being a retired tool maker and I thoroughly enjoyed the CAD interpretation and transition via great machining to a fantastic tool. Cant ask for a better 30 mins.
WOW!!! By far the nicest belt grinder build I have ever seen. Awesome job!!! A Tomahawk Missile won't scratch this beauty. I truly enjoyed every minute of this video.
Unlike the many, many, 2x72 belt grinder fabrication videos I've watched, this one is performed by a professional machinist perfectionist. I've never enjoyed watching any build video as much. I am in awe. Thanks for this.
I've watched the extended version 3 times, and shared it with many people. I believe it's the best belt sander build I've ever seen. I like your narrated video's a lot as well; they're helpful, and easy to listen too. Keep up the good work! *God bless.*
Excellent work as always. I appreciated this condensed version since it was pure entertainment watching the entire series boiled down to 30 minutes. Very much so liked the original series as well! Thanks for sharing
More than wonderful work, you deserve a thousand likes, and thank you for adding the Arabic language to the translation. I am from Egypt and I listened in a moment. Thank you and we are always waiting for your new
Phil: This is a beautiful piece of Mechanical Art. Where Metal Warehouse cut to measure stock would suffice and functionally do the same job, you chose to create a mechanical piece of art that must be an absolute joy to look at and a pleasure to use. Great Work
That 30 min just flew by. I didn't move...I didn't blink...I'm not even sure what happened. That was a good video. I think it would be safe to say you have the nicest belt sander on RUclips....or anywhere for that matter.
wow! just wow...I have subscribed because of the seriousness of your work...I don't know I have no words....I have seen expensive belt grinders, and don't think they hold a candle on your product.
Phil, you have what it takes. Thanks for all the work you put into making these videos. You have the right stuff. Looking forward to all the amazing things you will come up with.
This is an example of exquisite craftsmanship at its finest. I don't know whose "knee" you studied from, but kudos to your teacher(s) and yourself. Cheers!
An outstanding work and achievement of an "Ultimate High-End Belt Grinder" which is a piece of art. Congratulations and many thanks for these excellent videos (the short and the extended versions).
Congratulations, the best video I've seen on machine construction, I loved it from start to finish and a great handling of the milling machine and tools.Greetings from Argentina
*Wow, your proficient excellence in craftsmanship is amazing, and very rare in these days.* *High-End Belt Grinder Perfection!* *Wish I had one.* *Thumbs up # 965*
Well, this is the first video of yours I've watched and now I'm hooked! If these are available for sale, I would love to buy one... Awesome craftsmanship!
I kept thinking of different things and you then change the configuration which threw out that idea, so I though of another idea, and changed configuration that threw tha one out the window as well. Well thought out sir. Fantastic Creation.
Absolutely awesome build Phil, well done. We'll, every day is a school day, I have been in this game for 30+ years, and never seen a boring head being used as fly cutter before!! Cheers Jon
I wouldn't really advise to do it either, but well, you make due with what you got 😅 It's well past time I make an actual flycutter, come to think of it.
Before buying this sander I would use a rotary sander ruclips.net/user/postUgkx3Pc2vLXfcgM5oIpF1iYcIWyFhHUC-G6v and didn't see the need for a belt sander. Boy was I wrong. this belt sander does the job quickly and gives a professional finish to the wood work.
I have watched this and the series several times. Defiently the best build out there. And also impressive on the DIY factor. I don't have all the tools, so I'm considering to "cheat" and order the CNC parts...
As an engineer, welder, and also builder of things... This build actually blows my mind. If you were the person that engineered this, we don't deserve you in this world. Amazing build man. And nice mill work :) Im curious how fast i could build this on my cnc mill now. This is the type of tool you don't let your friends use :)
@@PhilVandelay Yeah, I thought about just scaling everything off of the belt size at first tbh. Not sure how many other people would take the time to do that, but yeah. haha. 🤣 but i noticed you were selling the fusion files and You are too generous. Glad i found your channel. Best $34 spent. Cheers 🙂
@@PhilVandelay I did notice one thing however. Did you on purposely flip the seam on the 2x2 sq tube so it wouldn't damage the wire running through, or was that by accident? 🤪
Phil, your videos are fantastic. absolutely outstanding design and execution. I discovered your channel recently and watched many of your older videos. Just commenting in hopes that more videos are on the way! Keep up the great work.
Really enjoyed this video plus the playlist. I Also like the belt sander built at Fireball Tool. With all the neverending supply of junk vids on youtube, these craftsmen type people are a real pleasure. Outstanding skill. I wish i could do it.
I understand that using something that you've designed, fabricated and built yourself gives a huge sense of pride but I'll just buy one assembled. Stunning work though sir.
Phil, it's not fair, man! A perfect project executed with jeweler's precision from rough, heavy irons. Beast machine! How do I make one with four files and a drill? The only way: "Please, please make one for me! I'll pay!" Be healthy! I wish you a lot of luck!
25:57 Is a bad idea to put some dust protection around tension arm slider? Oil with dust from grinding between so tight moving parts is a pain in the hole :D
This is simply amazing... Can't really add much to my comment... I would buy one PVB-1. I would try to build one but I don't have many tools required for this job. Awesome build!
Wonderfully soothing to watch a sculptor do his art :) I have watched a fair few machining videos over the last decade or so, but the wheel coming to a stop at 12:27 is the coolest machining shot I can recall - you would not have a hi-frame rate version of that? :)
This is nothing short of artistry! Im so impressed with every aspect of your video. Im curious about something. I know very little about machining. This appears to be mastery in every sense of the word. When it comes to the machining, how long would you say it would take to develop the competency required to execute a build of this quality? Thank you for sharing. Had my undivided attention the entire video. Subbed
Actually this is nothing all that special, these are all very basic operations and simple parts within the scope of machining. You could probably make something like this within a few months of learning if you have the necessary equipment. The "hard" thing about it is more the volume of work, making all these parts on manual machines takes quite a bit of patience, but it's not very complex, even though I guess it looks more impressive if you've never done it. Except for a few parts, none of this needs super tight tolerances or complicated operations.
I just purchased your plans, after drooling for WAY too long. Can't wait to get started ... but it'll take a while to get in all of the required materials. You move REALLY FAST in this video. I don't think I'll be able to keep up that pace for long. I'm hoping for an hour's build time instead of your 30. Sound reasonable? 🙂
Haha yeah the build time doesn't come across at all even spread out over 3 videos. I think I worked 3-4 months on this. That being said a lot of time could be saved by having some parts lasercut or CNC'ed but where's the fun in that. I find it best to just take it one part at a time since they're all independent and eventually you end up with a puzzle that becomes a grinder
@@PhilVandelay That's exactly the reason why I chose your plans. I recently got a new PM-30MV mill and want to have fun projects to build my skills. I don't really care how long it takes ... it's all about the experience and gaining new/better skills.
Beautiful build. I am struggling to understand the viability of a high end grinder though. Those beautiful surface finishes and oily bits on a device that by design sheds sandy grit as a by product of normal use seems doomed to frustration. If I forget that it's a belt grinder I can really marvel in the beauty of your work though. Impeccable as usual.
I found this channel a few hours ago and have since watched the whole series and improvements. Don’t recall you ever saying how many man hours went into this build. Or final price for materials you have into it. I’m thinking of buying the plans and plugging away at it in my spare time regardless. Just curious if you’ve ever put a price tag on it?
Almost perfect. All you need is a VFD and a 3 phase motor. Variable speed is way more betterer! Not sure about the T nut slots either, I like my rest smooth. The rest linkage is not the best as it has to be leveled both ways every time you install it. The rest should be perpendicular to the belt always, if you need funky angles then make an adapter for the rest. Forge On!!!
It does have a VFD and a 3 phase motor... also the table is indexable at 90° on all axis. You should probably watch the long version of this to get the full picture
This has to be one of the best machining videos on RUclips. Design, machining, attention to detail, video editing, 10/10 in all departments.
😋
Some of us would actually prefer an extended version. It’s a pleasure watching the series. I’ve watched it many times.
