I’ve played it and honestly I like it. You just have to come at it from a different angle. Also, it’s not like you’re sitting there hitting one type of node on an open field for 20 minutes. Each resource is fairly unique and requires it’s own fairly interesting process, so it has the depth to make it engaging.
having clunky combat ironically makes it more fun in my opinion it makes it almost impossible for experienced players to be a one man army on the battlefield like in most games
It would be funny if the factions are also the wardens and various kingdoms around Mesea, and Anvil is just the age-old history of war between these factions before Foxhole. As if they have always been ancient enemies
You're telling me this is pre-alpha? God damn, that's impressive. If they can keep to their roadmap, stick with core design principles while making changes based on feedback, then they've got a winner here.
The best part is that they had a game already developed (Foxhole) to use as a base game for it, so many cool things from one or another are mixing pretty well (just like the latest melee weaponry in Foxhole)
They really took what they learned from foxhole. Foxhole open free pre alpha in 2015 was incredible. And this is pre pre anything. They know how to make a strong base for a game and found their niche. Their roadmap is always on time and they have scheduled dev streams at certain times of the year. A lot of the time you will hear a whisper of something and a year later it will be added. That is one thing that I will give to them. They won’t let any of their games die. Always adding and listening to people. I’ve seen them revert multiple changes. I’ve seen them even bring back reverted changes after the game landscape changes to allow for such things. Such as Anti Personnel mines in foxhole Removed in 2016 readded recently in 2024
It´s a fucking pre alpha since over a year. I wonder how big the Team is Siege Camp assigned for Anvil Empires because they arent making any progress at all
that underground portion caught my eye, if they can implement that into anvil, perhaps they could do the same for foxhole? Adding a tunneling system to plant explosives or create passages underneath defenses with firefighters at pointblank when tunnels converge from counter-mining operations. It's be the battle of Vraks all over foxhole!
As a certified 1400 hours Anvil Player, I have to say that the game is nowhere near being finished. It SEEMED relatively finished around a year ago or so, but it was mostly because the vast majority of the systems were not yet implemeneted, thus everything was simplified. Much has changed nowadays, for better or for worse. However, almost nothing was changed in regards to combat, we still have the same combat mechanics that we had in the Anvil Tech Test, which started around 3,5 - 4 years ago. In the span of few years, we shed the mechanics of population, town happiness, we were given foundation walls, fishing, proper towns, homesteads, smithing, mining, foundation walls 2.0, homesteads 2.0, 3.0 & 3.1, whilst the combat wasn't touched until now (unless you count them removing the fire the flasks created after hitting the player, but that was mostly because the entire dev team was killed by a single flask. Anyhow, what i meant to say is, that the game is still unfinished, the vast majortity of the systems are still in pre-alpha, or even in tech stage. Relatively recently (in my point of view) we got shieldwall mechanics, later we got ladders, and now we are finally getting more weapons to play with. The combat is clunky, and looks boring, however, that is expected from a system that only recently got any updates. Expect things to evolve and change, but give the devs time. The combat will be fluid, and enjoyable, and the systems will be pleasant to interact with but we need some proper foundations first, and that takes time, a lot of time. If you do not want to go through all this pain, we are currently experiencing, don't. It is ok not to, but remember, trudging through all this pre-alpha mud shows you how much work goes into games like these.
As someone who has played both games here is the difference. Anvil is all the hard grind work of foxhole x10. You move slower, move less material, and maintain more things. If you like endless grind its the game for you. Foxhole also has endless grind. But you can still play with enough people per task. Anvil just takes all the worst of foxhole and pushes it all into a very ugly clunkier sandbox.
The game looks bad because everyone plays with low quality, its almost impossible to see shit with max quality, but the game looks good. About the new combat update, it came with some good and bad things, the ability to switch combat modes is more cool than useful, but the update instead of buff others weapons, just debuffed swords.
Honestly, I have no confidence. Foxhole is still a buggy mess with awful servers, and rather than afford better servers and MAYBE fix issues that have existed for years, they choose to take on a huge ambitious new project. If they enable pre-orders, it means they're running out of money and I pray they do at this point. Edit: My biggest issue is they haven't fixed their biggest and easiest problem to fix, clans. Clans can still mass report 1 person unfairly to get them an instant ban, which has happened to me more than once since I'm a solo player. I am more than confident that not only will this remain unchanged, but they will drag this issue into Anvil Empires too. Amazing.
Sorry but labels aren't really an excuse, especially considering they're being used wrong. If combat was "unimplemented", there wouldn't be actual combat. "Pre-alpha" is also a term exclusively used by the development cycle of a game BEFORE it begins testing, which is also not the case here.
What I think would be cool if there was a ranking system and once you reached the top you can make your own hamlet that can rank into a kindom/faction if it gets big enough.
You don't play foxhole or anvil for super crisp gameplay or insane graphics. You play it because there are hundreds of people working together to wage a logistical war.
A HEAVIER emphasis on resource gathering than foxhole? May god have mercy on our souls.
At least the crafting is more enjoyable imho

Them's fyelds ain't be faurmin' themselves.
insanity
My little blacksmith shop it will be great for rp.
having clunky combat ironically makes it more fun in my opinion
it makes it almost impossible for experienced players to be a one man army on the battlefield like in most games
Definitely encourages group combat
It would be funny if the factions are also the wardens and various kingdoms around Mesea, and Anvil is just the age-old history of war between these factions before Foxhole. As if they have always been ancient enemies
I could see it

I heard "it's a pre-alpha test" and was like "okay well there's my answer, sounds like I don't need to watch the rest of the video!" 🤷
It´s a fucking pre alpha since over a year. I wonder how big the Team is Siege Camp assigned for Anvil Empires because they arent making any progress at all
The games they make is absolutely similar to a LARP event in real life but you can go into it more often.
Agreed

Would be cool
For pre alpha game is more functional than some aaa games cough ubisoft cough.
True
3:29 its true, if the game is fun this early, thats a really good sign
If my newborn can’t bench 405 off the cliff he goes. Sparta type shit y’know?
agreed, my beer fetcher better be able to deadlift 300lb once it exits the womb.
if it cant, well... artificial selection.
The old school Heihachi style of parenting. Works every time.
Because Anvil is a pre-alpha.
Basically yes
It kinda looks like one of those fake mobile game adds but with less saturated colors 😂
….I see it
TBH I really dig the aesthetic of the game as it is right now
Gonna see if I can make it into the next playtest :D
I agree, its simple and has a nice style. I wish you luck on getting into the next test
They should’ve played foxhole near launch lmao
Agreed
@beeflord I was there with just rifles, now we have so much. Anvil looks great off the bat with a fun looking game play loop.
I only saw the title not the poster lol. Great video keep up the amazing work!
Thanks King
new anvil video from beef-lord 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I wouldn't have to write posts about how shit it LOOKS if they finally invited me to the play test so I can experience how shit it feels.
Factual. Hopefully you get in this next test
This video should've ended at the PRE ALPHA Test...
All Hail Beeflord ! we missed you.
Thanks King 🙏🏻
1:35 oh so valve basically gave tren to deadlock
Actually yeah 😂
early rust is so esoteric
Truly
1:00 Neither Foxhole, considerng how much of a prototype that "game" feels like, even if they put the 1.0 "sticker"
2:40 that's a war crime lol.
🤫
they just added improved melee combat to foxhole, its probably gonna translate over to here
Just came here to ask if you think the melee changes on foxhole are them testing the waters for anvil?
They happened at similar times, so its a real possibility

how do we get to test anvil ourselves?
Wishlist on steam I believe
How does this look bad? If anything I cant wait to try this out.
Agreed
Please tell me there are instruments you can play.
Honestly the only thing I hate are the colors. Everything is brown and green.
Please make more Anvil Empires content. ☺️✨🙏
The game looks bad because everyone plays with low quality, its almost impossible to see shit with max quality, but the game looks good.

I’m fine with the graphics, if it can fulfill its niche it’s fine by me. It does look a bit bland, but it doesn’t bother me.
I'm still waiting for the part where the game looks bad. But the video has been over for a while.
Fr I think it looks fine

Wait an actual playtest is that soon? Or you talking devbranch with the dev box cheats?
No, I’m really dumb, the test got moved again :(
for me looks good
Deadlock video when?
😭
@@beeflord 😍 I believe!
MAY ALLAH HAVE MERCY ON YOU BROTHER
Combine never dies 🫡
I really don't think the game looks bad at all. Honestly I haven't cared about improvements to graphics since 2009.
Good video
Thanks king
Why does it look bad? Because the game is litteral years from release....

Looks bad compared to what? RDR2?
Fr
Comment......
"This is what rust looked early on"
Shows footage of when rust not only had a better art direction, but was a better game over all.
insanely delusional take

Facts
What do you mean my son can’t bench press 300 on his first try!? I gave him Prime!
The moldy cheese will strengthen him
