Hi Brendan. I don't usually comment, but I just wanted you to know that I've been subbed to you coming up on 9 YEARS. About the same time I subbed to Jason Bowen. The first painting I did with you was the cherry blossom bridge. It's been wonderful watching you evolve and I love your content. Drawing along with you , or just watching for the past 6 months has really helped me through a tragic time and I just want to say thank you for sharing your wonderful gift. You are a beautiful soul. 😊
Edit: I really really hope you see this. 😔

Hi Elizabeth. Thank you so much for this comment, I super greatly appreciate it. And thank you for also following me for so many years now, I can't believe anyone has stuck around following me for so long now haha.. since I have evolved and changed mediums so much over the years. I am sorry to hear about a rough time you went through or are going through, but I am glad that my videos and art has helped you in some way. That is really amazing. I hope everything gets better for you. Thank you for posting, take care :)

When I'm anxious about anything I find that one of the best ways to deal with it is to just do *something*. Action is a great way to fight anxiety, even if what your doing doesn't have anything to do with what you're worried about, it'll make you feel better anyway because you will have achieved something. A small task that you've been meaning to get to is a good start, like taking out the rubbish. It takes two minutes but you can tick it off the list of things that are clogging up your brain. Then the little boost you get from that can be enough to get you moving on another goal.
I also find that writing things down is really helpful when there's not much else I can do in that moment; again, it helps to unclog my brain and quiets things down in there.

Very good suggestions and things. I agree for sure. There's a great quote that I like that is: "Mood follows action". Your thoughts reminded me of that one :) Thanks for sharing!

Good evening! I do love this drawing. I struggle with overthinking and I do several things you said and was even about to start aerial yoga, however my dog went to the vet and well, have to wait on the yoga stuff. Anyway, I live on 10 acres and there is a clutter of trees out back that, in the mornings, will put off a bit of shade so I take a tarp out there and just kick back for a bit and listen to the birds, may see some deer or rabbits. And sometimes, lay down if there are clouds and just clear my mind by seeing what shapes I think the clouds are making. Very relaxing. Enjoy your weekend!

Love this drawing so much bro. Yes overthinking can be a good thing and bad thing sometimes, sometimes we may need to think harder and a little longer before executing somethings while at other times we may need to be more prompt at making a decision. It is good to have a balance definitely. God Bless bro keep up the great work. Look forward to more content

It’s not overthinking just because you’re thinking for a long time to be fair. if you need more time to think, it’s difficult than ruminating over the same thoughts. The over in overthinking basically means too much if that makes sense

@@sourgreendolly7685 Hey friend, yes that's very true over thinking doesnt always mean the same thing as thinking for a long time. Sometimes when it comes to art I may merge both into one lol😂 Over thinking can be thinking about something too much or for too long. Thanks friend God bless stay encouraged🙏💜💙😊

Thanks for the video ! I definitely overthink a lot and for drawings it’s definitely due to me taking it way too seriously. I dwells with what to draw, what mediums and what paper for too long and causing unnecessary pressure before I start. I have to consistently remind myself it’s a hobby and learn to just enjoy the process.

    • @SchaeferArt

Hi Szu, I know exactly what you mean. I think we all do that from time to time - maybe even all the time too haha. It's a tough habit or thought to get rid of. I think we don't like to feel like we are wasting time or having a "bad" outcome. But you're right. it's just about having fun and doing it consistently.. it'll get easier :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts

I agree with your ideas to ‚fight‘ overthinking. For me the best way is meditation, tai chi and go out for a walk and of course talk to someone (or to my ferrets. They are good listeners)

Finding a distraction. When I wake up in the middle of the night and get stuck in that loop of negative overthinking, whether it's bad memories or current problems (art related or not) I have to distract myself. Get out of bed, walk around, cuddle a pet, play a game (phone app), read, clean or organize something... anything to shift my focus out of that stuck loop seems to help me.

I've been overthinking a lot in my recent job. It was graveyard shift, and the lack of sleep combined with late night cycling commute were breaking me down mentally and physically. Overthinking at my job was to a point of absurdity: All I could think about was writing, painting, drawing, reading, etc. Then I would come home burned out from a lack of sleep and a hyperactive mind.
Then I read *The War of Art* by Steven Pressfield. I quit that job; today, 7-16-2022 was my last day, and I start a new, normal schedule next Tuesday.
More time for art, for music, for photography, reading, writing and getting in shape.

@@gabudaichamuda2545 I did grave shift for 14 years , my sleeping schedule is still messed up even tho it ended in 2016(worked as Physician Assistant in ER mostly trauma room, and I just quit couldn't deal with it anymore) ,night shift should be payed double, considering how much hard it is on your psychiatrist health which automatically affects physical mental state of mind.

I'm not sure if you've done a video on it or not, but as an artist have you ever been over-motivated? like the opposite of having no motivation? I recently started feeling motivated with my art again but my issue is I have way too many ideas. I have ideas for 100's of separate images and I have no idea where to start or which one to draw. It's not that I'm lacking confidence at all I just have so many ideas it goes full circle and unmotivates me because I surely cannot finish so many images that fast! I want to work on all of them and get them done fast but that is not humanly possible .- .
have you ever had this? thank you for your videos that really helped me put perspective on things like patience.

Hey Micah. The only I can say is welcome to being an artist. I create crappy drawings all the time. It happens to everyone. Some days I suck, some days I create something really great. It's all part of the process. Up and downs. Light and dark. Good and bad. It will always exist. Don't expect perfect, it doesn't exist. And no one will ever reach perfection. Start accepting reality and enjoy the journey :)

@@micahlong7487 I understand. Just be patient. You will get better over time. Don't try to compare yourself to anyone else. Just compare yourself to your old self. When I look back at drawings from many years ago, I can see that I've improved. Sometimes it looks like I haven't, depends on the drawing or the day. Just have fun and enjoy it :)
