Street skateboarders looking to make it to the next Olympic Games are returning to Rome from 18-25 June for the next stop on the qualification road to Paris 2024.
As they did one year ago skaters, including Olympic stars Horigome Yuto, Rayssa Leal and Nyjah Huston, will once more meet under the shadow of Rome’s majestic Colosseum in the Parco di Colle Oppio skatepark to battle it out for the number one prize. And with the Games looming, the fight for ranking points also on offer in Italy based on finishing positions is heating up.
Just like with the previous skateboarding Olympic qualifying events, the competition will begin with a men’s and women’s open qualifier where the top 27 will advance to the quarter-finals. There, the top five skaters who are pre-seeded owing to their Olympic World Skate Ranking will join the contest. The field will then be chopped down leaving just eight skaters standing for the men’s and women’s finals on Sunday 25 June.

Best thing of the broadcast is that they actually show the missed attempts so you can see what went wrong on a trick. take notes SLS
We need Many doing commentary for every street skate comp! His insight is superb. Probably the best commentator I've ever heard . He can even tell what trick a skater is going to do next, he truly understands the difficulty and understands what tricks to do when. He was a highlight to this event.

bummed out for nishiya, but super proud of uemura. you can see how much she is hurting, absolutely heart broken. but she pushes through and lands her tricks
Russell's run was HELLA underrated. His run was bananas at LEAST 85+
His Style is so unique and the tricks he brought were really special.

What Manny said regarding celebrating after landing a trick I thought was a very intelligent and we'll articulated comment. He put it across in a respectful way while we're all thinking it.

The commentating on men’s final was absolutely superb. So many excellent insights and I especially appreciate the nod to J Lee and Kalis. These guys did such a great job of keeping it accessible to the general audience and inside enough to keep it real for all the OGs / skate nerds. Love it!!! ❤❤❤
Absolutely agree. I enjoyed listening to Decenzo in the semis as well. It's great that they're switching up pros in the commentary box.

Anyone elses video start and stop? I have had this issue with only the Olympics Skateboarding channel, several times with different video's. Amazing content, I would love to watch it!
I'm Brazilian but I absolutely loved how Rayssa needed an 90+ score just to be on the podium. Another proof of how women's competition is evolving quickly.

When I moved to London > 12 years ago, Sam Bruce the tv presenter on the screen was introduced to me because I skated and she shared a London Tube Map marked with all the skateboarding spots I should check out without even having me ask, what a queen!

Bringing Manny in to call the contest was a great move. Dudes knowledge and insight is really nice to hear during a comp.
Another noticeable jump in women's competition and Nyjah back on top, what more could you ask for? This was great.
I just watched the 2020 women's and it's insane what is happening, all this hype over women's football etc meanwhile this is going on and mum's is 🤫.

Three years ago the women section was kind of boring (not that I could do anything they do, I'm just spoiled by what the men do) and now? They are at like 70% of what the guys do in just the past 5 to 3 years!! That's so amazing to see.
Next year switch 50-50 kickflip out will be something they all remember and the competition will drive them to even greater tricks!

Gustavo was really robbed on that tre nosegrind! I get the repetition thing tho, he does treflips A LOT, but this time it wasnt that badly, easilly should have been in the 90s
He still would not have won with a 90 big buff buff. He would have needed 91 booger.
He does the same 3 or 4 tricks every competition look at the scores he got when he first pulled them out and compare it to now. Big difference. Gotta evolve at some point

The judges scoring just got more and more sus as the competition when on lol. Call me a Nyjah hater I don’t care but there’s clear favouritism towards him. His first run had all easy tricks except the last one. And it’s easy to say his tricks didn’t deserve what they got when u compare them to other tricks skaters did like Felipe’s Nollie front nose and Soras Cab back lip big spin out. And if they scored Hoefler properly I think he would of actually won or at least came really close. And once again I’m not a Nyjah hater I’m just being honest I think dude is the best street skater all time competition wise but that shouldn’t mean he gets a boost to his score.

biggest difference between male and female skateboarding is the flow of the whole run and the variety of the tricks. The women tend to just go from A to B, stop and then run back from B to A, while the men dont stop at B and grind the coping and run it straight back wo stopping, which saves them time to squeeze in more tricks, which also, like it said earlier, are more variety.
The commentators when any non-Nyjah skater's on: So how do you think this affects or will be affected by Nyjah? wth...
Did you see the Hubba Hideout remake contest??? He barely landed 1 trick while Braden Hoban destroyed it...they interviewed Nyjah.
He’s the most dominant street skater in history, ofc they’re gonna talk about him. He’s the favorite to win. It’s like in any sport. The biggest names are gonna be talked about
Yeah there’s clear favouritism for Nyjah especially in the past two world skate completions. Last year a lot people thought Giroud should of won. And not saying he didn’t deserve to win this one but Hoefler clearly got underscored which gave him no chance of winning at all.

Nyjah kinda coasted. Chloe should've won and manny should announce
Nyjah literally did more tricks in his runs than everyone else, skated in every stance but nollie in the runs, had no waste like kickturns and axle stall, actually did real tricks on quarters like blunt flip fakie and flip disaster. This is why his runs are consistently judged well. He may not done the absolutr the hardest tricks in his run (even though his ender was what Kelvin did as a single), but his flow and stance changes are abundant, he doesn't just do a trick or 2, axle stall, trick or 2, kickturn, gets in usually the most tricks, and stays flipping his board for the most part.
You want to talk about unfair wins? Try Rayassa, who is probably the best female contest skater, but who truly gets judged higher compared to others, regardless of what they do.

On round rails it is pretty much considered the same as nosegrind, hubbas and ledges it would be crooks or overcrook.
